  • The last episode I think of Inspector Morely, Late of Scotland Yard. This is entitled the "The Showdown". I think this is a lost episode, in the sense that it has not been seen generally in this TV episode format for a very very long time (thanks to Jean-Claude Michel for backgound info on this series). This stars Tod Slaughter and Patrick Barr, and dates to 1953 I think.

I remember the 1950's Criminals were not glorified in those days, unlike the films that have been offered up in the last few decades.

Thank you very much for this last episode, the conclusion ot this ultra-rare British television series, never seen in this form in its native country. The last scene of this episode (Morley commenting about the final justice), was later artificially lifted for the conclusion of the first "feature" released in British theaters, "King of the Underworld", but in this episode it is at its true place. Incidentally the number of this episode is 13, not 12 as I wrongly thought for years. The real episode 12 was "Murder at he Grange", aka "Death at the Festival". It was recently confirmed by newly found US TV programme of 1953, and it's quite certain, as in "Murder at the Grange" a character named Cynthia Quelch is murdered, and in the following episode (this one), a spirit woman try to call the spirit of Miss Quelch !
So to date, nine episode were found (from thirteenth) of this wonderful series - we can only hope future discoveries !

Maxustaxus was my pet cat's name. The cat (a beautiful and very affectionate mackeral tabby Maine Coon) was called Max, but he liked to play hard with claws so got the full name Maxus-attacks-us...and so maxustaxus. I wish I had chosen something less agressive or tax related for my channel name now!

Since you are interested in these old movies, there is something I can suggest. It is not a film but a television series from Britain in the sixties and my favorite: "The Casebook of Dr. Findlay". It was previously on TH-cam but has disappeared.

Fingerprints left all over the place and they don't bother checking for them. Leaving the murder weapon lying in a wad on the table. Is this really 1953?

You think thats bad...in the "Riley at Bay" episode Morley returns to his car to find someone has left a dead body in it...but instead of calling for the scenes of crime team and so on...hejust drives of with it, only commenting that it was a real cheek of someone to do this!

IT'S FASCINATING BUT THERE'S NOT MUCH OF A "SHOWDOWN" WITH TOD IN THIS EPISODE - 3 SHORT SCENES AND AN OBVIOUS DOUBLE IN THE MURDER SEQUENCE. ANY IDEA THE REASON FOR THE MAKERS BEING SO SHY ABOUT USING THEIR STAR, OR DID THEY RUN OUT OF MONEY.

By the overall dirt-cheap look of this production, the producers never had anything to run out of.
