This is a class composition in 'Reetigowla' by Thygaraja swamy...! Reminds his 'Cheraravade Ramaya'! I have listened to both sung by legendary erstwhile singers like Alathur Brothers. Probably first time listened recenrly by a present day vocalist! Another 'repertoire' keerthanam in 'Reetigowla', that was composed by Subbaraya Shastri-'" Janani Ninnuvina was popularly sung in cutcheries by M.S. Like many music lovers I too believe that all 'Reetigowla' keerthanams are so catchy by the phrase ‘N2 N2 S’. May be N2 N2 S is exclusively used only in Reethigowlai! thats doing the magic! Further the ragam skips ‘pa’ (or have a very controlled usage of pa) n exhibit an exclusive flavour ., like Maand or Abhogi and are very unique which has no substitutes at all. Reethigowlai joins the list. This ‘ni da ma’ phrase is also a part of avarohanam and hence sometimes skipped in arohanam too.!
Reetigowla ragam......always trigger my mind on the well known 'repertoire' keerthanam- " Janani Ninnuvina Amba" thats part of / sign of a mega cutchery in olden days....of MS Amma! Its Subbaraya Shastri's kriti while he emerged out as an outstanding composer with an own identity Otherwise he would have known only as son and student of Syama Sastri ! Of late only I did listen MDR's rendition of this Thyagaraja Kriti- Paripaalaya Paripaalaya in reetigowla,This one - 'dhvaithamu sukhamaa' is also a Thyagaraja kriti...in Reetigowla itself......MDR in his unique style classically exposed the beauty of the ragam's dimensions. First class rendition!!! MDR in his unique style classically exposed the beauty of the ragam's dimensions. First class rendition!!! Pranams to the soul of maestro MDR .

What a melodious voice. Vengala Dhwani! Amazing musician. He only can bring out the subtle bhavas of a Raaga with such brevity in his unique and inimitable style.

The accompanists are not of this cosmos. So much more melody, layam and "bhaavam" is added to the genius of MDR by these two accompanists. Many thanks for this post. Hari
