“I used to be able to see my classroom from my bedroom window,” smiles Cobbie Yates. “I’d wish that I had a slide so I could zip straight across.” For many of us, our childhood homes bear the hallmarks of our past. If they remain in the family, walls might whisper stories of our younger years, while beloved heirlooms bring old memories flooding back. But not for Cobbie. When the costume designer was presented with the rare opportunity to buy the modest flat he grew up in from his mother, he accepted the offer and overhauled the interiors, adding space-saving storage systems and creating a scheme that he and his partner, textile buyer Joseph Hyland, can call their own.

Such a gorgeous space and the couple seem so cute. A floor plan would have been helpful, to give a real idea of what they were working with. Was this an ex council home? Even more inspiring if it was. Some people cannot really imagine how such homes can be transformed so beautifully. We need more videos like this to show the way!

That’s a really nice pad. Plastering the walls really transformed it. Good walls and good floors are a must in any space. I thought a wood stove needs a chimney.

I believe that the 'freeholder' owners of this property should be more appreciative to their current 'leaseholders' who invest and 'obviously' improve the landlords property (at no expense to the freeholder!) immensely like this couple did. Well Done...it looks personal and great!.
I think they're the owners? Though i don't know how all that works in the UK.
@@vmurt Unfortunately in the UK 95% of apartments are leasehold (so you never actually own the property outright, has you would a house, which are 'mainly' freehold here in the UK).
This particular apartment is actually on a very well known 'council owned' development, and therefore is a leasehold property (probably leased for 125 years etc).
Unlike in spain where I used to live and own an apartment,if you buy an apartment it is 'freehold' and you own it outright (with exception of the land it sits on).
Most properties in spain (irrelevant if a house or an apartment) are all freehold, and owned completely by the buyer. The UK government will never abolish 'leasehold' because they will lose '£Billions of tax revenue....they are not stupid.
Leasehold properties are quite an unattractive investment to private independent home purchasers, (private landlords love apartments because they pass on all the maintenance cost to the person who is renting the property or increase the monthly rent to cover it) because of the yearly management high, yearly increasing costs, which then 'devalues' the home to prospective buyers when you come to sell.

Lovely flat but boy am I glad they aren't my neighbours, house parties, karaoke, shouting and screaming on a Saturday night, no thanks guys! Had enough noisy neighbours in my lifetime to know what I can and can't handle!

They don't give off the impression that they are disrespectful or completely selfish individuals. I imagine that they are very mindful of their neighbors' needs and would end their social gatherings at a reasonable hour, or even if they don't, and the gathering is expected to be very loud - which is probably not a regular occurence - they probably notify their neighbors. That's how i imagine they conduct themselves anyway.
Yep flat living is the worst… if you don’t have any bad neighbours YOU are the bad neighbour
