came down to say exactly this. Really well thought out design, absolutely loved the loft/workspace position and the flow of the lower and upper level bookcases. Well designed interiors feel the same as having a fresh haircut, but all the time.
I'd say it's actually the opposite - I would not have imagined it's permitted to build a staircase without a proper railing. I would seriously doubt using that staircase - imagine the consequences if you'd slip while walking in it. In worst cases they'd be lethal. Right?
I'm usually very much against open shelves and all kinds of knick-knacks displayed yet this bookcase wall is a work of art. The whole apartment is visually pleasing, but also feels like home.
I’m only vehemently against them because it’s dusty where I’m from. If it wasn’t, I’d definitely have so many open shelves because it’s organized but decorative haha
I am against it too. They look fine in this video but only because the apartment is perfectly cleaned up and they have nice looking (more expensive) utensils. Let somebody life there and it gets messy, dusty and soon it will look completely cluttered. Who wants to clean that all the time. I prefer, closed closets at least bottom to hip and a few open shelves more on eye hight. I feel like that’s what the work space needs if you already have that open staircase wall.
It's so nice to see how the space balances minimalism and also "clutter." I really like seeing everyday bits and bops like books and decorations. It makes a space feel a lot more like a home rather than a hotel 😊
I honestly prefer closed off storage and minimalist decor especially in areas like the kitchen where I tend to move things a lot. It would never look as clean as the displays they have here lol. I however love the stair case display, those things would never get touched and would stay pretty :)
I absolutely adore this channel and its direction but l agree railess stairs makes me pause as does open shelves all the way to a high ceiling. Cleaning in this space would require professionals unless the space is somehow dustfree?
Haha yes, every time someone went up those smooth steps in socks I screamed a little inside! After a trip to one or more of Camden's bars, I'm not sure I could be trusted on them 😅 Who wrote the risk assessment on this?!
As someone *with* mobility issues I was genuinely shook by that staircase. While not as steep as ladder rungs, those treads are way narrower than a traditional staircase. If it's a matter of keeping an open airy look they could have added a clear panel railing. Aesthetics matter but I like my neck unbroken.
let people worry about their own health and make their own choices. My builder allowed me to break code by having no railing and i was fine 23 years later.
This is a terrible design for storage. It's more like for a magazine wow-factor than for actual usage. One thing in common you would see in tiny houses is that people use drawers instead of open cabinets because they are more efficient in terms of organization and storage space, which is quite a common knowledge in tiny house design. Also, 54 sq meters is considered big for a condo or a flat in my city (and I guess most other big cities would be the same). I've seen smaller condos with more functionality and storage than this. A 54sq meter condo is typically a 2-bedroom in my city, and is typically on the higher spectrum of the price range. These open shelves make this big apartment looks smaller and more cluttered than it actually is.
Love this unit. The only changes I would make are to have a stair rail for safety purposes and I would probably move the television so it would be more easily seen. Thankyou for the great video.
huge fan of the yellow tiling in the bathroom! i love how the colour is picked up by all the reflective surfaces in the room, it feels like the sun is shining inside.
This is a BEAUTIFUL flat. For someone who lives in London in a small space,it was great to see how this flat was designed to make the most of a small space.
Very nice. It's both stylish and practical. The furniture and layout of the living room seems awkward though. Putting the flat screen on one of the long blank wall spaces (between the windows and balcony or the bathroom wall) and rearranging the existing furniture or getting new furniture more fitting to the space might help. Putting a small desk in place of the current TV table with a view out the balcony would make for a better office space than right in front of the bed upstairs. That space could instead be used for closet space for clothes and linens (something I did not see a lot of in the apartment). It could be built-in or filled with a shallow dresser, wardrobe, or vanity. At least that's what I would do were the space mine. Cheers!
The closet was shown starting at 2:52. It appears to be part of the cube wall facing the entrance staircase. I would prefer a vanity in that current desk space also.
I love the space except for that TV setup. Such an awkward position if you're sitting on the couch to watch something. It could be wall-mounted on the wall opposite the couch and work so much better.
@@rhemmie2825 Yes. There is a closet downstairs, but who gets dressed or even rummages through their underwear drawer in their entry hall? (And what's her phone number? 😊) There needs to be another place to store clothing--aside from coats, and away from the odd broom, and snow shovel. The desk/workspace works better, I think, next to the balcony on the main floor anyhow, it gives you the breeze, a view, and the space to get up and have a walk around when you need it. Plus, the coffee shrine isn't down a flight of stairs.
@@B__C__ I get that. BUT, they worked with the space they had. It's a small space and sometimes, as in many tiny home videos I've watched, the closet does not always wind up in the bedroom. (I currently get dressed in my living room every day, right near my front door. No one is here when I do, so where it happens really makes no difference.) Also I agreed about the vanity desk thing so there wasn't a need to restate that. I'm thinking they choose to keep that entire storage wall that goes up from the kitchen cabinets into the loft area and down the stairs into the living room as primarily open shelving for the visual impact. To have taken the area up there and enclosed some for closet space would have changed that.
I love the elegant way that bookcase/staircase is integrated into the design, but it looks slippery and really unsafe without a handrail. Difficult to reconcile a beautiful design with safety I know, but that would concern me.
Can't say I expected to like this, but then I loved the way each little room felt! Little details I loved in this space: - built-in bookshelves that completely fill the cathedral vaulted ceiling - the dark reflective backsplash in the kitchen - the colorful entryway shelving, and the color scheme of the apartment - the trendy kitchen light - the monkey hanging in the kitchen - the owner's efficient wardrobe - the full sized dining table - the "temple" dedicated to something the owners love (coffee) - the recessed, LED-lit bathroom shelf - the rocker shell chair (I have it too, and it fits this space way better) Things I would change if I lived here long term: - add a minimalist white or clear railing to the stairs for safety - separate the office from the bedroom somehow. (a) integrate it into the livingroom? (b) add pocket door covers to the office space, and have art on those cabinet doors to blend into the look of the built-in bookshelves. - add a stool to the balcony - create a more substantial headboard or wall design for the head of bed - replace bathroom sink with a wider and more modern bowl - balance out the color saturation by adding one or two large art pieces to the walls in the empty walls opposite the bookshelves Thank you NTS as always!
Good suggestions! I would also place the TV in front of the couch, and the working desk in the extra space in front of the bathroom, but that's just me.
I agree with all of your suggestions. Also…Where do you put your phone, etc near the bed? Why not move those glass panels down a bit? I could just see my phone tumbling down to the first floor!
That illusion staircase is genius. I adore how it elongates the space while using it for all those nooks and crannies. The amount of storage in a space that size is incredibly impressive. One of my favorite small spaces I've seen.
Vinterfrid I'd say it's actually the opposite - I would not have imagined it's permitted to build a staircase without a proper railing. I would seriously doubt using that staircase - imagine the consequences if you'd slip while walking in it. In worst cases they'd be lethal. Right?
This is my favourite one so far, the light, modern lines, brass and wood it's just incredible and very very cosy, I could quite happily live in this one forever
There is a wonderful sense of spaciousness and the visual integration of the stairs to the sleep/work area is beautifully done. I would love to live here.
This is literally my absolute dream flat!!!! Love how bright it is and every room feels airy and spacious because of that, whilst the stair-shelfs make the living room cozy. Absolutely loooooove this flat.
This is the best design I've seen for never too small - great use of space, and plenty of storage for the size of the apartment, including bookshelves!
Love that this space utilizes a loft without a ladder. Everything is well placed in my opinion, and no folding or transforming of furniture (besides the office desk), which is a win. As with most small spaces, though, that TV is in the wrong spot :) easy fix, though.
I love these series so much. This design in particular I found it very interesting. Even though the central "cube" is a bit weird at first glance, the fact that it has the bed and office on the top convinced me. this is great.
Its SPECTACULAR. I love that the exterior of the bathroom cube holds TONS of concealed storage. However that open storage area, ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!!! It humanizes the space, so it doesnt feel cold and sterile. Really brilliant job!
“Small footprint” is such a relative term. Clever use of space. Love the practical, light filled home mixed with some pops of colour. Has a Scandi feel to it.
Great layout - allowing for 2 different areas on the lower level, so it doesn’t feel like a studio apartment. Clever integration of the stairs into the wall shelves. Love it!!
A 54sq meter condo is typically a 2-bedroom in my city, and is typically on the higher spectrum of the price range because it's considered big. 37-45 would be considered medium sized and would be 1-bedroom. Studios are typically less than 36sq meters and these are considered small. These open shelves make this big apartment looks smaller and more cluttered than it actually is.
This is one of my favourite ever episode of NTS! I've watched it at least 3 or 4 times now (shared top spot with an episode on a beautiful little NYC apartment!) I think the design and aesthetic of this place is so beautiful and feels so socaious despite its small size!
Wow! Love this specious flat which doesn’t require you to pack up the furniture at the end of day! The layout is both open and beautiful, you would not feel boxed in! The staircase is perfectly hidden with the open shelves which is very clever, love how you used that bit at the star of the video! The bright yellow adds a nice kick to the whole design. I’d love to live here, but I’d turn some of the open shelves into more functional storage spaces coz I don’t have so many things to display! And get a bathtub in! Love it!
It had been a while since I was truly impressed by one of the properties you feature. This one however, takes the ball out of the park. The design and styling were impeccable. A place well ived. Great work!
This loft apartment has been very well designed. Having the three separate sections bedroom, kitchen/dining and living area makes the place look bigger as well as making each part private from other parts of the apartment as well. Also putting the bathroom section in the centre with the sleeping loft above it is a great idea also having the little balcony to sit out on makes the whole place look so cozy. The owner has a beautiful cat to complete the cozyness of this beautiful home. The floor to wall bookshelves are nice as well.
This is the only tiny space I've ever seen online that's actually comfortable. I worked at the school of architecture at my local university, so I can see a few of the subtle tricks being used here. Architects in my humble opinion seem usually to have a penchant for making things too complicated and expensive for the rest of us in these videos, as if they invent stuff just to showcase their abilities and to prove how complicated they can make things. You can make anything interesting if you throw enough money at it. But most of us can't. I do wonder about a few things. I'd need something like a nightstand or shelf within reach, by the bedside, to store things for use in bed, and I'd need a lamp of some sort to read in bed. I see he's got the outlets and ledges for it. Maybe he just decluttered things temporarily for the camera. Another issue I've been made acutely aware of, over time, is that I've never seen one of these living spaces that was accessible to someone disabled or older. The disabled are are least 25% of the population... and more, if one counts people that are simply elders. Everyone becomes disabled at some point in their lives, whether temporary or permanent. What I've learned from the job I had and in my own life, is that most architects exclude or ignore the disabled, unconsciously, and actually don't know much about Universal Accessibility or the ADA, unless they go out of their way to specialize in Universal Accessibility architecture, no matter which country they reside in. And that's a shame, because as I said, architects like to showcase their talents and ability to solve problems in clever ways.
That's because of the issue you touched on earlier in your comment- disabled people are more likely to be poor and so just don't factor in to the thoughts of people designing things for the ridiculously wealthy.
@@mhm9468 disabled people are not necessarily poor. You can have worked all your life and become old and disabled that way. You can be a wheelchair user and still do most office jobs any walking person can do. these are just examples. The assumption that disabled people are poor is just ignorant.
@@ginat.8064 the majority of them are, just because there are a minority of luckier people who become disabled later in life/have managed to save enough to cover the costs or who are born in to wealth, doesn't negate the facts. There are statistics to back it up. The world is disproportionately tailored towards the able bodied and for many, being disabled has a massive impact on the person and their families earning ability. Resources to help are only available to those with the ability to access them or someone to advocate. Too many people turn a blind eye to the struggles of disabled people in a society focused on what you can earn, its dehumanising and when people try to pretend there is no issue it doesn't help.
@@Ephemeral2023 I mean, its super easy to Google, the data is all there. I'm not sure what kind of hole you think I've dug myself in to; somebody was being naive about the struggles disabled people contend with and so I pointed that out. Either you're both really lucky financially or not disabled yourselves and it shows.
Well put and I too feel the disabled population is forgotten in so many aspects . Extremely wealthy or not a person may be, accessible living is important. Great comment
This is brilliant. The bookcase/staircase is such a clever idea and it’s so neatly pulled off that it just blends. I’d be a little worried about falling off the stairs but otherwise loving it.
This is one of the best designs I’ve seen so far. I love the use of space and how large this small space feels. The sleeping loft is genius as is the bookcase wall that hides the staircase in plain sight! Great job!
@@luketomaszewski5530 I'd refine that estimate further to £525k-£550k. Missed out on a beautiful 2 bed set over 80m2 next to Camden Rd overground yesterday. It went for ~£590k.
I absolutely love the design of this property and it has given me so many ideas to feature in my eventual studio renovation. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home.
Hands down my favourite space to date. My husband and I have lived small for over 20 years and we have always shied away from filling the walls with art or books in the hope that clean walls with one print or artwork would make the space look bigger. This video has proven us wrong. I want to move in immediately.
I can totally see myself living in this space. It's just smart, chic and functional. Minimized without compromising storage. Love the design and of course the CAT🐱🐈
It is a stunning space, but I feel like those stairs up to the loft are an example of prioritizing beauty over safety (and they _are_ beautiful). They should really have a railing of some sort.
This feels like an actual home, more than a minimalist magazine cover. I adore all the bookshelves. And while there is not a lot of storage space in the kitchen (no pantry but a big freezer?) I think this is a house that long term is still as comfortabel to live in. Wonderful job!
Just love this space. In Canada here, we have much space but small spaces are more interesting, manageable, and affordable. Great ideas! Many small spaces lack the visual interest this one has. And there's also a great aesthetic feel. Beautiful!
I love that the bathroom is a closed off space that both divides the kitchen and living room, and also creates a space for the bed to be lofted. So well designed!
I love the layout. Love the shelving. It is much needed storage that is open and can be made into a feature. Must cost about £700k though in Camden. Maybe more.
Love this design! You could use the floor plan places not as expensive as London and it would works wonderfully anywhere for a smaller home. I could definitely live in it 🙌🥰
Curious if the stairs going up to the flat can or are being used as storage? They would be perfect to store extra linens, bedding, shoes etc… within the space.
I'd like to see small spaces applied to families with several children. We really want to live in a minimalist way, but these apartments always seem catered to singles, or couples with no children.
Yeah, usually not the audience for spaces under 50sqm. In places like London, a significant number of units is occupied by a single person, so you can see the appeal.
Agree it's good to see some more family ones! The architects in this ep sounded like they wanted to turn all the family houses in London into tiny apartments - which actually makes the city less livable for families
@@Tashax405 Given a third of households in parts of the UK are occupied by single individuals, you can see why. There's no end to the demand for this kind of unit, specially in places like London. If the supply was anywhere close to the demand, that number would be more like 50%.
"Guess I'll go to the restroom in the middle of the night and oops I'm dead falling down these stairs because a handrail 'cluttered the space' and oh well it was worth it to look sophisticated."
Wow! This is perfect - and I rarely if ever think that. The combination of clean lines and beautiful elements showing personality through art and decor. ❤❤❤
No way., this unit looks like 1200 sq ft, This designer is genius! Even though it is a small unit, it is very attractive like my dream home that can motivate me to work harder. So, the designer really played an important role!
That wall with open storage including steps to the bedroom is BRILLIANT. Not only does it hide the stairs but it gives you easy access to the shelves on the wall. This approach would work even if there were no loft area that the steps were leading to. It would be worth it just to make the higher wall storage more accessible. Sadly, I only have a 9' tall wall to work with.
IN WHAT UNIVERSE is a 54 sqm house considered SMALL??? My first apartment was a 24 sqm studio and even it was not small. 12-15 sqm would be a small apartment.
Everything looks good and I like the layout very much. but stuck in the point where I believe in Buddhism In which the room has two Buddha statues that are placed on the stairs. which is clearly below the head For me, it's a huge sin. I suggest you reposition it best on the highest point of the shelf, or anywhere higher than your chest when walking.
Wow, how creative! I can't see anything I'd want to change. It's artistic yet comfortable with plenty of storage. So many little details that level it up. Congrats.
It’s very beautiful. But not very small. 490 square foot has been the recommended one bed flat size for 50 years in London. This flat’s a whopper in comparison! Many new build one beds are smaller.
I live in a large 2 story house. I love having all the space I have. But I’d be perfectly happy in this little place. Smartly laid out, comfortable and homey, and kinda has a luxury or premium feel to it despite its small size. The cat makes it awesome!

Love that this space utilizes a loft without a ladder. Everything is well placed in my opinion, and no folding or transforming of furniture (besides the office desk), which is a win. As with most small spaces, though, that TV is in the wrong spot :) easy fix, though.
I agree, who can watch TV when it’s perpendicular to the couch like that!
Those stairs seem treacherous though. Narrow and no railing.
@@davidfoust9767 the stairs are indeed a bit too narrow, I agree!
Those steps to the bedroom are a accident ready to happen.".. unless you have the agility of a cat and superior night vision.
Lovely space, the best addition is the cat 🐈⬛🤍✨☕️
“Small footprint” is such a relative term. Clever use of space. Love the practical, light filled home mixed with some pops of colour. Has a Scandi feel to it.
Cleverly and stylishly designed - as always. So happy this channel exists. Such joy!
Agreed. One of my favourites on TH-cam. If only there were more episodes!
awesome idea of stairs & bookshelves.. love it 💕👍
Great layout - allowing for 2 different areas on the lower level, so it doesn’t feel like a studio apartment.
Love it!
Totally doable. I've raving over the bookcase and general simplicity.
This is hands down the best design I have seen on NTS! What a creative and beautifully simple use of space. Love!
Omg, I lived in this house while I was backpacking. Oh Camden Town, how I love you.
It had been a while since I was truly impressed by one of the properties you feature. This one however, takes the ball out of the park. The design and styling were impeccable. A place well ived. Great work!
This apartment is amazing and really thought out! Also at 2:02 and 5:50 KITTY
I love Camden ❤. What a beautifully designed apartment. Plus a cute cat! 🐈
It looks beautiful... but hard to dust!
The staircase is a possibly lethal idea?
This is one of the best designs I’ve seen so far. I love the use of space and how large this small space feels. The sleeping loft is genius as is the bookcase wall that hides the staircase in plain sight! Great job!
The use of space and simplicity inspires me to live minimally and buy with a purpose, love your videos!
This is just amazing and very beautiful! The cat makes it perfect❤️
Adorable! Put a banister on the stairs to the loft and it will be perfect
I don't normally like a minimalistic approach, but this has a warmth to it that you don't usually find . Well done
London is literally my dream city and if I had an apartment like this in London I think I would actually be in heaven
Same!
In that area that flat would be easily around a million pounds, if you can afford it go for it!
@@purplerain1975 I think you are a long way off the price of something like this in Camden, I would think 5-600k at the very top.
One of my fav NTS videos to date. I love the loft bedroom and how there's enough space for an office nook, and the staircase is phenomenal.
I can totally see myself living in this space. It's just smart, chic and functional. Minimized without compromising storage. Love the design and of course the CAT🐱🐈
That is one of the best kitchens I've seen, the optimal use of spacing is really awesome.
It is a stunning space, but I feel like those stairs up to the loft are an example of prioritizing beauty over safety (and they _are_ beautiful). They should really have a railing of some sort.
I love how much character and comfort it has. A place that actually looks practical and livable.
Love the bright natural light and the splash of yellow in the bathroom !
I love the layout. Love the shelving. It is much needed storage that is open and can be made into a feature. Must cost about £700k though in Camden. Maybe more.
Probably one of the best/smartest designs shown on this channel.
I'm in love. Great work architects and NTS!
I feel that every home should have a "coffee temple"! Beautiful home. Beautiful design.
I love the way never too small videos are filmed. So peaceful and beautiful
The cat is a testament to the apartment's relaxed lifestyle.
Exactly.
One of my favorites 👏👏👏
Love this design! You could use the floor plan places not as expensive as London and it would works wonderfully anywhere for a smaller home. I could definitely live in it 🙌🥰
OMG! The bookcase/stairs is genius!! One of my favoriites!
Imagine tackling that staircase after a night in Camden Town 😂
What a beautiful space!
My thoughts exactly. Not good for party goers. But there's always the couch 😁
@@ryotaarai3816 and the couch was the first thing I considered too! We think alike.
Beautiful, gorgeous and a dream. I would fall off the stairs😅
Excellent interior architecture and design, very well thought out. Congratulation! 👏
I love it by admiring, not living in it. I can't imagine all the dust and dirt accumulate on the displays and niche
Really love it. Everything is so well thought out. Thank You for sharing ✨👌🙏
Curious if the stairs going up to the flat can or are being used as storage? They would be perfect to store extra linens, bedding, shoes etc… within the space.
This is a brilliant use of space. And the colours are congruent! Lastly, as a booklover, oh how I love the shelves!
Good design overall, but the staircase is pretty sketchy and wouldn’t be approved in Australia without a balustrade
I love the statement tile in the bathroom!! SO effective
There a a couple of video's of apartments for families at the yt page of apartment therapy
what a wonderful design.i really like the wall of shelves and stairs blended in.great job.well done.thanks for shareing.
"Guess I'll go to the restroom in the middle of the night and oops I'm dead falling down these stairs because a handrail 'cluttered the space' and oh well it was worth it to look sophisticated."
No handrail is contrary to building regulations too.
But where's the litter box?
living in apartment with cats myself, im curious where the litter box is.
The cat is purely for decoration. On average they expire in about 4 to 5 days then you have to get a new display.
Probably the most beautiful 'small' design I've ever seen! I could absolutely live here :) Congrats! ❤
IN WHAT UNIVERSE is a 54 sqm house considered SMALL???
My first apartment was a 24 sqm studio and even it was not small. 12-15 sqm would be a small apartment.
One of the best small homes on TH-cam. Compliments!
Congrats.
I’m extremely curious how you hide that kitty’s litter box in such a small space! I have a whole 3-bed house and it was hard to figure it out.
Love the wall of shelving and stairs. It is beautiful.
It’s very beautiful. But not very small. 490 square foot has been the recommended one bed flat size for 50 years in London. This flat’s a whopper in comparison! Many new build one beds are smaller.
I love smart design such as this. Smaller spaces require more thoughtfulness and creativity.
Very nice but the TV position looks like it makes for uncomfortable viewing from the couch.
I live in a large 2 story house. I love having all the space I have. But I’d be perfectly happy in this little place. Smartly laid out, comfortable and homey, and kinda has a luxury or premium feel to it despite its small size. The cat makes it awesome!
Its not that small tho who are you kidding? This is a decent living space with dedicated rooms...
Cleverly designed, yet the space feels warm, comfortable, easy to live in, and efficient.
54 sqm is not a small apartment
