- If there's one fashion brand that epitomised the swinging sixties it was Biba. It started as a mail order company later becoming a seven-story department store, known for its mini skirts and then - in the early seventies - as the home of bell bottom trousers, floppy brimmed hats and billowing ostrich feather decorations.

Its success was built on the design brilliance of its founder Barbara Hulanicki.
As a new exhibition opens in London, telling the Biba story, Jane Dodge went to meet her.

Twiggy recounting the details of her first Biba dress is EVERY Biba customer remembering those long ago purchases and the joy they brought us! We wore them until they fell to bits (one reason so few of the really good items survived to the present day). No other designer/ store had the Biba originality and mystique. It was a truly magical place, that felt more like you were entering an exclusive, luxurious club than a shop, yet open to all and very affordable. No wonder those clothes flew off the racks!
Congratulations to all involved with the exhibition, and Welcome Home, Barbara!
Im so glad Barbara Hulanicka is still around, I love her designs, her wallpapers are amazing
Went to Biba store in London many many years ago it was amazing
Love that she's 87 & still going strong. She & Mary Quant totally revolutionionized global fashion starting in 60's London. It was such a magical time. Everything was breaking barriers. Clothes & music especially. Great time to be there for.
Greetings from Australia! I hope this exhibition comes here! I recently bought my first 1960s Biba coat from a seller in Poland! I look forward to seeing it and wearing it come winter!
Ana Sui wouldn't exist without Hulanicki!
And I adored Ana Sui in the 90ies so much.
God this has brought back so many memories of saturday afternoons in Kensington High Street!
i went to same school and college as zandra rhodes, she was an excellent artist the school had some of paintings still up
... and the Market...! It all seems like a dream now. Ken HS looks so boring these days. Fortunately, we still have our memories...
Used to go to the Biba store every Saturday, it was an experience, also went to small Biba
I never made it inside the store but passed by it quite often and remember shopping bags with BIBA name in gold.
Twiggy looks fabulous !!!
The 1970's was best, and most experimental decade for music.
And she helped save South Beach almost single handed.
If I could go back in time, I’d go to Big Biba 😭
I would love a pattern for the original dress 🤍
Ingrid Boulting was another beautiful face of Biba.
She is the Mother of the look that we here in the states came to refer to as RICH HIPPIE. IMO.
I have been there once in 1973.. It was so dark greetings denmark
God Bless BABARA!
It doesn't just speak to young women, it speaks to some young men too!
1:40 She has a remarkable whiff of Warhol if Warhol had lived to 80!
03:05, How very interesting. ☺
I love Wayne’s world
Why is fashion so popular?
because we all wear clothes
She has a jaw like Thanos.
Don't be unkind. She is beautiful, very chic and a design icon you could only dream of.
Ongo Gablogian?
Derivative!
The old girl, or guy needs a wrinkle filler.
Biba still going to Jimmy Savile’s barber….
Troll
Crickey I thought there was more news on Savile when I first glanced at the picture .
If you had said Bernie Eccleston, I could kind of understand. She has aged gracefully and good for her.
Is Biba Netanyahu?
