  • January 10th, 2023 is the End of Life date for Windows 8.1, so I decided to look through the Windows 8.1 app store before it closes for good. This video is just me exploring the store and seeing what I can find, I hope it's interesting or useful to someone in the future!
I didn't get to use Windows 8.1 very much or for very long. I first installed it on my laptop in October 2022 in order to try it out before support for it was dropped by Microsoft. It's honestly a really good OS, and I wish I had used it more while it was still in support.

I still remember scrolling through this store in 2014 installing all sorts of mobile games I could see and hearing that Notify Generic jingle every half a dozen seconds

I'm sure that was really cool back then, especially if you had never used a smart device with an app store previously. This was the early days of that market when the idea was still that these types of stores and devices would replace the traditional desktop computer.

I grew up with Windows Vista I think.
    I miss 2012.

I used Windows 7 for the longest time, I loved it, and it was basically a service pack for Windows Vista. Both were products of the 2000s and really great!

@@NottJoeyOfficial i need to get around to using Vista again not sure if it's still supported by anything but I loved using Vista back in the early 2010s.
2010s were the best years fight me

@@Aserl If you find apps that work for Windows XP, they're work on Vista too. The Windows XP community is large with active developments in apps like the MyPal web browser, so that will help quite a bit with Vista as well.

I used a Windows 7 Laptop (not mine) when I was like 6. Then I used Windows 8.1 as far as until 2018 (according to screenshots) and only then switched to 10.
Never even got a chance to touch Vista in my childhood because when I was finally a conscious human being, nearly everybody replaced their installations with 7
