and 99% of them carry fleas. they are so great that you ever dare to put your garbage bin in your backyard, they will come to your backyard. so if you let your dog outside at night, your there is 80% chance that you will find a dead oppossum in your backyard the next day. then you have to pick up the dead smelly oppossum, throw it in a plastic bag. tie the plastic bag (which will force you to take another whiff of their decomposing body) and throw it the trash. if you forget to give your dog flea medication, congrats, your dog now has a bad case of fleas. if your has taken its flea medication, it will still bring fleas in your home and the fleas will live for 1 week, biting your ankles instead of your dog's stomach. lovely creatures, these giant rats are

I was under the covers keeping warm listening to 1 chronicales 28 when I herd shuffling and scratching, I figured it was the kids making there way down stairs, then I herd it again and asked my girlfriend if she herd it, she said she herd something so I grab my phone and turn on my flash. There he is a huge POSSUM with Satans glowing reflection eyes looking back at me ! Gosh if it’s never happened to you you wouldn’t understand. That animal ran back to where he came from and I had to push my laundry basket over the opening, also grabbed my two 25 pound weights and put it in front of the basket, I look throughout the house to be sure he ran back to where he came from instead of upstairs into the kids room, I didn’t see him up there but I’m not 100 percent. Anyway iam goin to try to go to sleep now but iam still nervous as heck. I was listening to the Bible when this happened, I can’t make this stuff up !

okay so first of all possums do not contract rabies and they are very friendly they will not bite and you have no reason to be afraid of them second of all you should know that the finding one in your couch is not uncommon if you're leaving out rappers and other things they will smell it and they will find a way in your house they're very helpful though they will eat up ticks and other bugs so you need to be more appreciative of the fact that a little baby possum is just trying to hang out and of course you'd want to get it out of your house but it's going to be okay because that saying can't hurt you and probably just looking

Grab em by the tail and maybe you might have to give them a gentle shake from time to time as they will sometimes try to grab thier tail and get to your fingers.....all while carrying it off to a proper place. Nothing to fear, easy to do. Just do it!
Wild animals will respond to the tone of your voice. Be calm, but noisy, and they will move on...except for bears, mountain lions, or alligators. In those cases, back away slowly and get the hell out of dodge.
Ive had 2 of them come up through the floor under the sink in the kitchen..They were babies so i just grabbed them by the scruff of the neck and took them outside..They are pretty much harmless..We have skunks rabbits opossums ferrel cats in our neighborhood so i'm used to it all.
A little tip for you! Possums are immune to Lyme disease and eat ticks! They also are immune to rabies, so aside from maybe having a flea or two, you guys weren't in danger even with a crying baby. Since it was a baby, it's good you let him go. ❤️
Just incase anyone's wondering, best way to fix this is either to call a service or get really thick gloves (like thick leather or something) and grab it in the neck (or yank it by the tail and then grab it by the neck/back) and carry it outside, put it in a box or a bin and bring it to a load of bushes/forest.
if the guy was sleeping on the couch and wasn't bit and the opposum most likely is not rabid just scared and looking for a warm dark place to sleep... they don't even attack they're scardy cats I have a bunch in my moms yard

I feed my backyard nocturnal as well. But it's a tossup if the coons beat the possums to the prize. I get the occasional skunk but they are rare.

Possums don't carry rabies. They are warm blooded and immune to rabies. They do bite if provoked or threatened, but are really harmless.
