      and 99% of them carry fleas.
      they are so great that you ever dare to put your garbage bin in your backyard, they will come to your backyard.
      so if you let your dog outside at night, your there is 80% chance that you will find a dead oppossum in your backyard the next day.
      then you have to pick up the dead smelly oppossum, throw it in a plastic bag. tie the plastic bag (which will force you to take another whiff of their decomposing body) and throw it the trash.
      if you forget to give your dog flea medication, congrats, your dog now has a bad case of fleas.
      if your has taken its flea medication, it will still bring fleas in your home and the fleas will live for 1 week, biting your ankles instead of your dog's stomach.

    • @Bansheevin
      @Bansheevin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes, it is theoretically possible for American Opossums to contract rabies because they are mammals, however, there are no documented instances of one having the disease and no documented instances of one passing it on to other mammals. Opossums are harmless to humans, and are actually quite beneficial (unless they're living in your couch, which can be unsanitary if they're not house-trained.)

    Bro your so brave, I literally just seen a possum in my house, it’s 12am at night, we had a ice storm here that took out the power, like the whole state is suffering right now and to make things worse there’s no power ! I was under the covers keeping warm listening to 1 chronicales 28 when I herd shuffling and scratching, I figured it was the kids making there way down stairs, then I herd it again and asked my girlfriend if she herd it, she said she herd something so I grab my phone and turn on my flash. There he is a huge POSSUM with Satans glowing reflection eyes looking back at me ! Gosh if it’s never happened to you you wouldn’t understand. That animal ran back to where he came from and I had to push my laundry basket over the opening, also grabbed my two 25 pound weights and put it in front of the basket, I look throughout the house to be sure he ran back to where he came from instead of upstairs into the kids room, I didn’t see him up there but I’m not 100 percent. Anyway iam goin to try to go to sleep now but iam still nervous as heck. I was listening to the Bible when this happened, I can’t make this stuff up !

    okay so first of all possums do not contract rabies and they are very friendly they will not bite and you have no reason to be afraid of them second of all you should know that the finding one in your couch is not uncommon if you're leaving out rappers and other things they will smell it and they will find a way in your house they're very helpful though they will eat up ticks and other bugs so you need to be more appreciative of the fact that a little baby possum is just trying to hang out and of course you'd want to get it out of your house but it's going to be okay because that saying can't hurt you and probably just looking

So not like I'm in the country or anything. They always make nests in my cars. It's like a monthly chore to clean all the possom poo from my engine. They really are harmless, definitely a bit scary when they try to scream at ya and open their mouths but they rarely ever bite and are mostly just stink bags running around eating geckos and whatnot.

    "Huge" lol that's just a juvenile. As others have already mentioned, it's nearly impossible for a possum to be rabid, their body temperature is too low for the virus to survive. Also they are not aggressive, unless provoked... meanwhile screaming at them and poking with a stick is an excellent way to provoke something. Cute little critter, thanks for sharing the vid.

    This is not how you get a wild animal out of your house. Quietly is the preferred method.

    Wild animals will respond to the tone of your voice. Be calm, but noisy, and they will move on...except for bears, mountain lions, or alligators. In those cases, back away slowly and get the hell out of dodge.

    Oh my…..I guess when you don’t know about something, you can have a lot of fear. You could’ve put on a heavy pair of gloves and picked this baby up and took it outside. Hilarious…

    A little tip for you! Possums are immune to Lyme disease and eat ticks! They also are immune to rabies, so aside from maybe having a flea or two, you guys weren't in danger even with a crying baby. Since it was a baby, it's good you let him go. ❤️

    Grab em by the tail and maybe you might have to give them a gentle shake from time to time as they will sometimes try to grab thier tail and get to your fingers.....all while carrying it off to a proper place. Nothing to fear, easy to do. Just do it!

    if the guy was sleeping on the couch and wasn't bit and the opposum most likely is not rabid just scared and looking for a warm dark place to sleep... they don't even attack they're scardy cats I have a bunch in my moms yard
