    I would try boron nitride powder - seems cheaper and more effective. Suppose to be the same stuff they are using in those "ceramic“ chain lube

    Rapeseed oil, liquid Vegetable Glycerine and .Olive Oil Pomace.
    Rapeseed is the oil, glycerine is the thickener and pomace is the anti oxidant.

      @@North3rdMediaHi, I think this is what Green oil use, they use T-NOC in their literature. Glycerol is a Triglyceride hence the T, I think the NOC is Nitrogen, Oxygen and Carbon from the Olive pomace. Another thing you can do is add the liquid vegetable glycerol to chainsaw oil to thicken it.

    Excelent. Ive got all this in the shop. even a gallon can of ptfe, HINT: mix some of that in your snowboard wax, I won races doing that when i used to snowboard race!

      Have you a link to the gallon can of PTFE? The snowboard wax idea is ace. The PTFE powder is a faff to handle.

    I'm currently trying a 2:1 mix of 5w-20 synthetic:toluene. Curious how toluene compares with mineral spirits.

    Could you use teflon and silicone spray that is in a spray can???? Maybe cook the solution for a couple of minutes ???? This should make a dry lube. Supposedly dry lubes do not attract dust and dirt. Do not know this for sure but dry lube you buy commercially just leaves a white residue which is the teflon.

    • @North3rdMedia
      @North3rdMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I think that could work. Or use the white spirit in place of the silicon spray as it will evaporate leaving the Teflon behind.

      @@North3rdMedia Years ago at a tractor show, I seen a teflon dry spray. Bought a can for two bucks. This was the best dry lube I had ever used. Unfortunately for what ever reason could not buy any more. That was thirty years ago. That is all I remember. Nice video and will be making me some soon. Thanks

    Can I use Kerosene or Paint thinner for the white spirit alternative? We dont have White spirit here in asia

    • @North3rdMedia
      @North3rdMedia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any that can thin down own and ideally evaporate. Paint thinner will work as long as it is mineral oil.

  • @kevinhescock7887
    @kevinhescock7887 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Make a dry lube with WD40 and isopropyl alchohol, and the ptfe. WD40/alch will evaporate and leave the ptfe on the chain.

      what kind of proportions do you use, for that mix?

  • @Fosgen
    @Fosgen 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Cheapest white candles. 500 grams, add 25 gram 1.6 micron PTFE, make it flow. Degrease chain in petrol, dip in wax for 20 minutes, take out, leave to dry out. Nothing even water doesnt stick to it. Runs smooth as butter. Cheaper than yer mix captain. Better than yer mix.
    Good chain, will last up to 40,000 km, if treated every 250-300 km. Nothing else even comes close.

    thoughts on adding graphite instead of ptfe? or in addition to ptfe?

      But if you’re not comfortable using the pressure washer and damaging your bearings you may use spirits from the hardware store. That’ll make your chain squeaky clean.

    Only thing missing are mentos and some coke.

    • @North3rdMedia

      The solution would not work well. The sticky solution would attract dirt a lot. Though the coke may make the chain shiny. 🤔

      Use directly or as an additive with greases or oils. Can be mixed with isopropyl alcohol and painted on to surfaces to leave a thin layer of ultra performance lubricant. May be 'burnished' on to metals to give a fine low friction coating just microns thick.
