    If there is room around the clutch pack you could have an aluminum heat sink designed to wrap around it and bolt it on to help pick up the heat from it and release it in the air on top of your ducting you planned. Ķind of like an RC car electric motor sink.

    For the diff coupler, it wouldn’t be that hard to tac on a bracket and mount some kind of metal fin and shield to keep it cool. Apexi should 100% incorporate that into any aftermarket units. It seems like such an easy solution I wonder if this thing was engineered to heat up and disengage for long term reliability reasons? Pure conjecture.

    That’s interesting. It sounds like you may want to increase cooling capacity for the clutch pack assembly.
    Time to get creative.
    I can think of some fabricating options.
    1. Air cooled option. You need to increase surface area to dissipate heat. Maybe add fins or a heat sink
    2. Electric option. Rig up your own temp sensor to the case, along with one or two mini fans (computer server fans?)
    3.Water option. Fabricate a water jacket to mostly or partially encase the unit. Then you have the option to create a standalone cooling system for it, if needed.

    • @JustDriven
      @JustDriven  ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are all great ideas. And a couple of them (didn't really think of the water jacket) were brought up with BSide Fabrication when building parts for it.

    its not a matter of cooling the clutchpack, its a matter of adjusting the software limits on the temperature sensor/ecu. its being way too overprotective, the limits simply need to be raised in software.

    • @JustDriven
      @JustDriven  ปีที่แล้ว

      We discussed some trickery with the sensor but we want to work within the parameters of the Toyota framework to start. We might have to wait on the software situation until we can find someone who can adjust those or until we just swap the ECU.

    Seems the saga continues to make this do what it was advertised to do stock.
    I'm even more disappointed to see the Corolla GR overheat the drive train during cannyon driving ON A COLD DAY. That's quite sad. Now, "it needs" suspension, seats, exhaust, AND to find a way to cool it down... smh.. That's frustrating, honestly.

    • @JustDriven
      @JustDriven  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You shouldn't be too disappointed. This car is way better than advertised. It explains the popularity of the car so much that Toyota is ramping up production. We are beating this car up a little bit. We need to know all the shortcomings so we can improve the vehicle for our track days. Daryl was working on seeing if he could get the clutch pack to heat up. We have lots of tricks to try out and see where this new to us chassis goes.

    • @johnnyturbo8460
      @johnnyturbo8460 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Just Driven I shouldn't be too disappointed you say, yet it doesn't do what it's advertised to do 🤔
      Toyota is ramping up production because they didn't make too many in the 1st place, to be honest.
      You say it's" popularity " has them selling fast. No, I think the low numbers and extremely high hype of these cars have them selling fast. Not many reviewers are doing what you all are doing, and that's pushing its limits as advertised. Most reviews are of someone doing a walk around of it or a spirited drive for 5 minutes . That's not an honest review. Personally, I feel that seeing you all drive it as it's advertised truly shows its shortcomings, and there are several that you are showing us now. Not only that, but it didn't take any time at all for them to show up. I wonder what else will pop up 10 track days from now, etc... You all are doing just what many of us plan to do with it. (Or planned to do with it until I saw your videos), and that's comute in it and really ring it out on the track for track days. This car honestly fails at that as you have shown, time and time again. Your driver even over headed the diffs on a cold day canyon carving.
      I am truly interested to see how this unfolds. Sadly, my money is on hold for maybe an upgrade model in a year or so, or maybe just go in a completely different direction.

    Stop stop stop stop stop stop stop stop stop! Wait, I thought Toyota’s were the most reliable vehicles out there, no matter what! I thought you could go hundreds of thousands of miles with zero issues, doing anything you want! This is what Toyota love-makers tell us right? Or is maybe, JUST MAYBE, that Toyota’s are reliable cars because they are tuned very low, and driven very slow? Maybe, JUST MAYBE that has something to do with it, because we are now witnessing one of the very very very few factory Toyotas, that’s tuned from the factory, at a pretty high limit (which is about the normal limit that Euro vehicles are tuned at from the factory), to see problems and it’s weak points come out.

      "Driven very slow" is an exaggeration. It's not like their max speed is 30 mph

      @@ranggafahmi8479 it’s not rocket science to know that most Toyotas (Supra doesn’t matter because that’s actually a BMW 👍) are slow as balls in comparison to their rivals. That goes for their cars, SUV’s, and trucks. They are slower, and produce a lot less torque than most anything else in their class. That alone means their engines work a lot less, and when an engine works a lot less, their drivetrains also work a lot less, and the result is things last longer. It’s not rocket science.

      We are hardly treating this car like someone's grandparents treat their Toyota Avalon. We aren't badmouthing Toyotas or BMWs. We are just hunting for weaknesses in a car pushed to its limits. We push it so we know what to expect on the track.

      german cars break a lot bc they suck. toyotas dont break a lot bc they dont suck. who cares wat the reason is even if the reason is speculation and not fact? ase in point my 99 4runner gets yhe snot driven out of it on and off road and the tranny and motor are abused to limits quite a bit. with 240k on it, its just fine. i mean your argument that they are tuned low is very ignorant, did you just make that whole theory up?
      next u r going to tell everyone that hondas are reliable lmfao!

    Would it be a good idea to heat wrap the exhaust for daily driving? Or no?

      In this case, I'd say it's ok anytime, as the reading is probably wrong or at least the heat source is not the one that should be measuring, so heat wrap for everything!!

      @@thedsmbroadway3780 As always the answer is, it depends. First it's still an unknown how much heat is actually transferred from the exhaust to the clutch packs. As close as we see them here, the GrY is even closer as this is one of the revisions made for the GR Corolla. Second is if you're in an environment where they salt the roads. If that's the case, you don't want any material that absorbs and retains water wrapping any metal piece, especially one that goes under heavy thermal loads and is simply steel. Third is most people won't need to worry about it anyway as the problem seems to only show up for track duty or repeated launches.

      Why is it funny? We are looking for the limits of this car from Toyota. We want to chase down its shortcomings and build it up to handle the street and hard track days. We will abuse our car so others can enjoy theirs more!

      Since the dawn of the automobile, owners have been modifying them to go faster. This is no different. Even if we had a more track oriented car like an M3 we would want to make it faster. It is who we are. It's what we do. Enjoying your car at its limits is fun. Building our cars to reach a higher level is fun for us.
