Excellent video, Loui! I like that you covered a variety of topics. I love that you're working on the design for your home. We manifest our dreams through actions, right! You are a creative, a thinker, and an adventurous doer...YOU already have BADASS covered! If someone chooses to be mean to you, it's a statement about their lack of character, not you! I know you know that...try your best to focus on your own voice first, and then on the voices of the kind, supportive and uplifting. You got this!!! 💜✌🏽

Maybe: Design the house together with someone who already has experience. Then it‘s like an apprenticeship.
One thing that I like about the tiny houses which I’ve seen on TH-cam is that part of them always has a high ceiling. That makes them feel much more spacious than they actually are. In general, I’ve read that you can decrease the ground area if you raise the ceiling at the same time and things won’t feel cramped.

This is just what I’ve seen. You started with the Ad-van-tures. Now you are in a cold climate rainforest. On bare land that you own .
Your mother should be so proud of you.
You’re are surprisingly intelligent , never think less of yourself.
I have met and seen many people in my life. What you and your mother are doing 🤯.
Feed your mind while you can.
    IMO go Yurt yourself !!
Much love my friend and beautiful video like deep . I loved it

Curious: Have you considered using shipping containers? When insolated and correctly finished on the outside, they can be structured to suit any floor plan. Just a thought.

@@AdventureTimeLoui Yes, a lot of materials would have to be brought in. While you are doing your research, perhaps you could do a cursory cost comparison for having the container(s) fabricated in or near a larger city. The fabrication would cover container cuts (windows, walls, etc.), insulation, exterior prep, wiring, plumping-however much you would want to be done. The cost of delivery and putting the "lego-like" pieces together on-site may be expensive, I admit. Still, looking into it means you've covered that option. One other advantage of using shipping containers is the ease of making add-ons. I bring this up because I've been following the shipping container homes for at least 3 years. Some designs are "too busy" while others are absolutely exquisite. Like you, I plan to travel vanlife (for about a year) but will settle back into my beloved northeast and build a shipping container home.
I also want to say how much I admire you and your mother for following your dreams and the way you face adversities in the midst of the good times. I wish you both well, and thanks so much for documenting your adventure.

Nice sketches! It looks like you’ve got the house plans going. My sister is an architect and she uses a program called ‘Sketch Up’. It makes sure all your measurements add up and outlays your ideas with a clear plan based on terrain etc. The books you have will undoubtedly have the standard codes for a solid home. Can’t wait to see that process happen for you and your mom!

I think it’s great that you draw your ideas. Your ideas/plans may change when it’s time to actually get a engineer/architect for your build. I’ve ALWAYS loved providing contractors pictures/drawings (for visual purposes) for my projects. It’s SO much easier than “describing” your idea. Have you looked for “tree houses” locally to be able to talk to the owner with regards to materials? Also, I haven’t seen recent videos from your mom. Please give her lots of love and hugs from her subscribers.

I grew up in Ketchikan & Kodiak, moved away at 13 and I cannot tell you how much I miss the rain. I love love love rainy, overcast days. My body may have left southeast AK, but my heart never did. I hope to move back one day, I recently learned how lucrative working in the seafood processing plants can be during salmon season, I knew there was money to be made, but I had no idea just how much. I recently heard a couple who worked the 2023 season in Naknek, they netted $10k each for 4wks of work. 16hr days 7 days a week, but hell, it's worth it. Money is the only reason I haven't moved back to AK yet, but I got my eye on the factories now!

Question: how and why did your mom choose the van life as well? Was she married and worked a regular job etc? What does she do now to make money? I love you and your moms relationship and you both are so gorgeous and positive ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

If you 100% design it yourself you will gain knowledge that is invaluable when and if you hire a professional builder - you’ll know if they are doing it right, for one thing. You’ll be more confident about future repairs and maintenance. So I’d suggest proceeding as if you are designing it 100% whether you do or not.

Oh, and you can panel the interior walls with wood or dry wall. So no cross cross slates if you don’t like them. This is a p.s. to comment below. 😉

Yes I take 2,000 units of vitamin D3 a day per doctor advice. Vitamin D3 is good for you if you don't get out and get a lot of sun. I tell you it's good for your mental well being. Live in Maryland and get a lot of snow ❄ during December, January and February. Yes it rains here too but I find peace in the rain. It's a great time to cozy up under my throw blanket on my sofa and put on a movie from my projector or just be quiet and let God speak to me. This is my peace and I love it!!

I had family living in Alaska years ago & my weather here in Michigan was colder than hers most of the time. I believe Anchorage or Juneau is in a valley...Makes a big different. Then there is lake effect...Michigan has a lot of different areas where north /south might get slammed on but we would get 1" / 2".. .New York is like that too. Just skip over negative remarks when the people don't really know or maybe they are just trying to help you.

The weather in SE AK is really something. I can’t say too much about the Wrangell area, but I think the primary winds are from SE, and the difference between S and W winds to N or E winds is huge. And locating your house means a lot. Getting a S exposure is huge. This past winter some houses near mine that I go by regularly has a hill that shades them big time. They had snow and ice out front for a month longer than me.

Yes to vitamin D supplements! As a fellow melanated person, it is important that we are getting enough supplements because our wonderful melanin hinders the production of vitamin D compared to a less melanated individual.
As always, it has been a pleasure to take a peak into your life. Stay safe and blessed! 💖
