I have the same amp and had a similar feeling about the red channel. Recently I changed a few of the pre amp tubes to a lower gain tube for ch. 3 and made it much more manageable. I’m now running my gain on like 4-5 ish instead of like 2 haha. Just gets a little more of a push from the pre amp instead of saturating up right off the bat. This is also a cool method for taming the red channel, I’ll have to give it a shot!
If you like Black Dahlia, I think you should check out Dimension Zero. It's a side project of former In Flames guitarists that is in somewhat similar vein to TBDM, but thrashier. Silent Night Fever is basically a riff bible to me.
I run my Blockletter 5150 on the red channel with the gain at 6, and boost it with the Boss SD-1. I primarily play a Mustaine Jackson V loaded with EMG’s. Rolling the red channel gain back and boosting it gives me the best sound I’ve ever had. Highly recommended. Cheers~
Brandon is an incredible guitar player. I've played since I was a teenager and discovering him has pushed me to try and improve a lot. Really pumped to hear him and ryan play leads on the next album
Another great video. Thanks for keeping the melodic sound of traditional thrash metal alive. You have the ear of a mix engineer/producer and also an amp designer. I'm always impressed and find value in seeing you work through crafting a pre/post eq tone. Continued luck with your channel!
Your videos have helped me immensely with the 5153 amp. I have the exact same but in a combo. I have watched almost every video you have made on it and have learned alot. I even modeled my pedal board off of yours. When you opened the video with verminous it really hit home. Brandon Ellis is just unreal and love the Black Dahlia murder. Keep up the great work and stay metal. Thank you so much for making such great content and have a wonderful day.
You should check out some Arsis as well, which was the band he was in before Black Dahlia. Ryan Knight from Black Dahlia that Brandon replaced was also in Arsis on their We Are the Nightmare album. I think you'd probably love their stuff. They also had Nick Cordle who was in Arch Enemy after Arsis before they picked up Jeff Loomis.
Here's another tip; try a lower gain preamp tube. I run a JJ ECC82 in v1 of my EVH 50 watt, and it helps tame the gain of all three channels, especially the red channel, which was way too much in stock form for me. I would never run the gain above 9 o'clock before, but now run it a 1 o'clock. I also boost with a TS808 or SD1 to help tighten it up.
I have the combo version, and never played with the red channel too much. It just seems too fuzzy to do anything with, and I always figured that a boost pedal would make it even worse. It never occurred to me that the boost pedal could actually be used to clean and tighten up the gain, but I will have to try it now.
Is that a legit pre amp distortion in the red channel or is it the 6v6 tubes doing it ?! I have one but it sounds so good it sounds fake like there’s a modelling chip in there helping it out somehow. It’s the first and only tube amp I’ve owned so I don’t know if all of them pretty much do that.I also have that Jackson V (with a white pick guard)as well as a Jackson Kelly !🫡🤘
I bought the tabs for Verminous, i suck at learning by ear, and it has been one of my favorite albums of all time and playing with the record is sooooo much fun.
Hey LambChop, been meaning to post a comment for ages... love you videos, tone and of course your bird. Curious, where are you in Australia? Been posting one or two videos on my channel myself, and you have been instrumental to some part I could not figure out on my own, so thx again!!
If you get a chance try checking out St. Rock React:IR 2 its much better than the Two Notes Captor X and the attenuation is more dialed in than the 3 level switches. Best investment ive ever done and got rid of my Captor X
Brandon is a monster. Ofc he had to pass the Arsis test before he got on w TBDM, same as Ryan. Lol Anyone who can keep up w Arsis tunes are usually inhuman shred machines. James Malone also doesn't get enough credit.
there's a sort of easter egg on the 100w version. If you're on the red channel you can adjust the gain on the blue channel and it allows you to reduce the gain and tighten it up th-cam.com/video/7JZIajY_flA/w-d-xo.html
Hey unrelated question to the video but I’m hoping you or someone in the comments can help! So I have the evh as well, and I’m using the 4 cable method just got a pedal board set up, I have a compressor, tube screamer and a 10 band eq, anyways I tried switching to the blue channel/ green channel but it doesn’t work and the eqs of the head doesn’t work or the volume knobs, it’s like my pedal board became the primary functions of the amp but iv seen people have the pedal board with the evh and the evh switcher and it works for them but my evh switcher isn’t even working can someone explain why this is ? Amp is new all is new and if I don’t use my pedal board the problem goes away so I’m wondering if maybe my routing is wrong ? Hope this makes sense thanks !
I have to start with dumb questions sorry but you’re definitely turning the fx loop on from the pedal board? After that it may be a dead cable in the loop. You can always check your cables by plugging one end into send and the other into receive and see if the amp still goes alright. After that I’d just make sure everything is routed correctly and take it back to basics one pedal at a time. Feel free to email me Lambchopper678@me.com
DSL,there’s comparison videos of the dsl and the evh ,not the iconic but the regular 5153.lambchopper has a lot of videos showing the tones he can get out of it,a lot more videos and tone than the evh lol
I can never get this kind of sound out of my 5150 III EVH amp. I almost don't even use it. Sometimes I will use the blue channel or the cleans, but mostly I use my 6505 + Peavey. I did notice you're using the EVH speaker. I use the V30 mesa cab and it just doesn't give those crunchy highs. Whenever I plug the EVH 5150 III to my Mesa cab it's just all mids. :(
its simple, i see lambchopper upload and i click
Great tones
Loved the care about your birds with that massive collection of gear :D
As one silver-haired dude who's still very much a metalhead to another -- well done. Love your stuff dude.
That’s how us geezers do it!
Lambchopper for president!!

Clicked on straight away! About to order me a gotoh to slap in my Dean ML, and maybe for the EVH wolfgang standard too. Thrash on!

I wish Brandon would go back with Arsis as well but oh well. He's a beast.
Your videos have helped me immensely with the 5153 amp. I have the exact same but in a combo. I have watched almost every video you have made on it and have learned alot. I never thought I would saw you playing TBDM, my favorite band, thx man

I’m a simple man. I see a new LambChopper vid… I click.
My all time favorite amp. It just has "the" sound I know and love. Great playing as always.
insane thrash slice push and mid punch, and low end right in the pocket.
Here's another tip; try a lower gain preamp tube. I have EVH Stealth. It’s a beast!!! Cheers LC!🍺🍺😎🎸🎸

Brandon is arguably the best axeman of his generation.
Black Dahlia riffs are fun and challenging to play!

6l6 tubes. 5 pre amp tubes
yay Lambchopper uploaded
Great play through and tone demo!
Nice find man. Sounds amazing!
I bought the tabs for Verminous, i suck at learning by ear, and it has been one of my favorite albums of all time and playing with the record is sooooo much fun.
I considered it, such a cool album. It was tabbed out by Brandon and the riffs are pretty tricky to dissect without help
@@LambChopper678 you killed it in this video man. His solo on verminous and sunless empire were amazing
Brandon E is the man!
Check out his everything went black playthrough, those riffs are gnarly!

Thanks mate, Townsville
Thanks for the video
You need to give the album Nocturnal a listen, if you haven’t done so yet
Dude, we really need this capture with nano cortex!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sounds great!
Lamb, do you think you could do either a st.anger or death magnetic or black album tone for the DSL 20?
If you get a chance try checking out St. Rock React:IR 2 its much better than the Two Notes Captor X and the attenuation is more dialed in than the 3 level switches.
Best investment ive ever done and got rid of my Captor X
Would you be interested in doing Lamb of God killadelphia tone with either the mesa boogie, kraken or 5150?
can you do some machine head tone videos? i would be interested to see the approach you would take with the gear you have!
🤘🏽🤘🏽
Quad Cortex captures please
Brandon is a monster. Ofc he had to pass the Arsis test before he got on w TBDM, same as Ryan. Lol
Anyone who can keep up w Arsis tunes are usually inhuman shred machines. James Malone also doesn't get enough credit.
Hey man! Could you get similar results with an eq Pedal infront of the Red Channel? Thanx
Sort of, but not as good
What ohms is your captor x? I have a 50w stealth and evh 2x12 cab.
Thank you!
8ohm, the EVH head can output 4,8 or 16 but 8 covers all my amps

I can’t decide between a Marshall(DSL)combo or EVH(5150 ICONIC)combo
EVH combo all day everyday 🔥
Between those two, EVH all day
EVH BABY!

To be fair, Brian writes most TBDM songs and riffs.
Uh... First
I can never get this kind of sound out of my 5150 III EVH amp. I almost don't even use it. Sometimes I will use the blue channel or the cleans, but mostly I use my 6505 + Peavey. He is using a V30 too through his 2Notes IR. Are you boosting the signal into the amp?
@@iLLuzion1st Yeah I'm using a Maxon 420. I've also started using that MXR EQ on FX loop. I'm amazed he can get this kind of sound on V30.
