Winn was an interesting character. On one hand, she genuinely cared for the Bajoran people. On the other, she desperately wanted to be Space Jesus, but Sisko beat her to the punch without even trying. This is why pride and jealousy are considered sins. Anger is a path to the darkside.
She believes in suffering means a big payout later... if she doesn't see it, she will make people's lives a living hell for being denied it... she didn't care about being a space jesus and more, she wants what she is owed
Winn was a great embodiment of corrupt religious officials obsessed with power. In the earlier seasons she reminded me of European figures in the Middle Ages who sought (and often gained) influence over both church and state.
Winn was a natural tyrant. She was always evil but justified her evil with religion. She committed terrorism just to get rid of her enemy planting a bomb on the station. 🤭 She lusted for power and would be anything to get it. She’d even throw away her beliefs and worship the devil just to keep a title. She was pure evil.
Damn, and I thought that her DS9 character was EVIL (Kai Winn - The Hillary Clinton of DS9)... I wonder if THIS is why she got that role...? (I can hear it now - "Just dial back the EVIL a bit...") . He should of broken her arms and legs, and left her there to fend for herself.
She's an academy award winner for best actress in 1975 for her role as nurse Ratched. That alone places her amongst the small elite circle of grade A Hollywood film actresses. DS9 had an extremely talented cast.
Louise’s mother was born deaf and her father was deaf at age 4 after he was struck by lightning. He’d, after I watched this, ironically became an Episcopal Minister. Lol
I thought she was even worse as a nurse. Her absolute smugness as Nurse Ratched was so detestable because it so common to meet people like that without realizing what monsters they are.
i want her in nightmare on the 13th floor but all i can find is one with foreign subtitles. Can someone get the tv studio to release it or someone give me a link i don't know about
Mate, she was a religious zealot even before she joined a cult. Encouraged a bajoran security officer, Neela, to assassinate her rival vedek after bombing a school on DS9. She turns from the Prophets purely because she's jealous of Sisko and wants religious power over him, but still doesn't have it after being elected as kai. She murdered Solbor, and was apparently perfectly fine with the Pah-wraiths wiping out any who opposed them. Also perfectly okay with working alongside a madman like Dukat, even sharing a bed with him. There are two good things I can say about Winn. She did suffer during the occupation for staying true to her beliefs and helping others survive the cardassians. She also at least tried to help in the final minute of her life, but a little too late considering she caused it to begin with. Yeah, evil is a word I'd use, at least following the occupation. She gained power and wanted more, refused to lose it, and at others' expense.
@@singularity_josh8063 true, but she wasn't motivated by hate so much as ambition. This character was purely motivated by cruelty. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the children weren't inside the school at the time of the bombing. Were they?

She apparently was one of the nicest people you could meet. That probably why she was so good at playing the villain. Without a doubt she stole the whole scene that she was in.
Wow, she played that role incredibly well. I'm actually not sure what's more offputting, that overt religious zealotry and aggression, or the subtle sense of superiority in DS9, masked by a seemingly kind old woman.
After "One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest " she played always such terrible women, although her talent as an actress went much further - very sad. She is also the best looking actress.
There are real at Christians like her and they are extremely scary.. she played Kai Winn really well and she was extremely judgmental and pushing your religion on others and I love what happened to her character at the end of season 7
As much as i love Louise Fletcher, this is pretty poor acting imho. Her role as Mildred Ratchet was world class. But as a domineering, utra religious nutcase mother, Piper Laurie as Margaret White really shows how how it's done (movie: Carrie)

All she needed to do was say “this is the will of the prophets” and this would have been a DS9 episode
Walk with the prophets my child

Kai Winn redeemed herself at the absolute very end though.
One good deed doesn't redeem a lifetime of evil. Though she proved she wasn't entirely awful in the end.

Yeah I had to check because it made me curious. Flowers in the Attic, 1987.

Of course she was. She’s the original (and in my eyes only) Nurse Ratched
I remember watching that movie as a child and I was so enamored with the acting when I was so scared for those children.
Liked before the adverts even finished.
She is a Tour de Force as a actor.
She was a 'good guy' in an episode of the quirky show "Wonderfalls".. opposite 'Blanche Devereaux' actress Rue McClanahan
What a great addition to ds9 she was. An absolute treasure. You could go ds9 character after character and nobody in Trek today would come close.
Her best rolls as Nurse Ratched
Louise Fletcher is one of the greatest movie/tv villains of all time.
VC Andrews writes crazy novels.
Her slap game is strong
Her calling Kira "child". It was almost in the context of calling someone daughter. We definitely saw great acting on display.
Well that's Kai Winn before she found the Prophets and became a bit calmer.
I was hoping she would say MY CHILD
Especially to Kira!😂
Was this lady the teacher in that Alien movie where the teacher was caught eating a frog?
She will be missed, lived long and prosper Louise Fletcher.🖖
Whooopfff! Damn... After such a resume she had to be perfect for Star Trek DS-9. Never seen her in any other role but this sure tells it very well.
The Pah-wraiths will spare those they find worthy -Kai Winn
I've read the entire Dollanganger saga by VC Andrews. Louise Fletcher was a fine villain in this less than stellar movie.

Actress and singer Marva Hicks who played T'Pel, the wife of Tuvok, in two episodes of Star Trek: Voyager, also died recently.
My mom gave me all of her V.C. Andrews novels. That series was heartbreaking.
No one else could have portrayed Nurse Ratched so well. Without her the film would have failed.
