I am hobby drummer .On my drum wall I have 4 ...8x10 black and white pics on the wall ...I am a fan of many drummers out there in drum world ..but on the wall are just 4 pics ....its Buddy Rich ,Gene Krupa,Joe Morello and Louie Belson ..those are my drum gods ..period ..thanks for the msgnificant upload
When Louie came to Chicago Most of the time he Played at a Jazz Club Called Joe Seagals Jazz Showcase. And I would Always go to see him Play. He was One of the Kindest Human Being's I had ever met. He and His Wife Francine would talk to My ex-wife and I like they had known Us for Year's. He is Sorely Missed.
No one more qualified than Louie to lead Buddy's band. They had some great drum battles... namely an LP " Are you ready for this". Louie maybe more inventive and musical.... Buddy brutal, fast and always the one to chase. Two of the greatest drum technicians who have ever lived. There are great drummers out there now...Weckle, Paice, Palmer the list is long. But when we lost Buddy and Louie some of the magic disappeared from drumming.
That wasn't quite Buddy's band. I'd have to study more carefully to get most of the names, but the lead trumpet player is Bobby Shew. At the time time was recorded Bobby was playing lead for Louie's band and a couple of others. He had not play with Buddy for a long time.
I met him many years ago Super nice guy. I’m just amazed at his playing for any age, but he’s older here and doesn’t even break a sweat. Inspiring is all I can say. What a talent.
Louie showed what set him apart here with his double kicks in the big band jazz context and a library of interesting chops that were his alone, along with hands that could keep up with Buddy in a drum battle as they had done numerous times. One of the world's all time greats.
Besides being one of the greatest drummers of all time, Maestro Bellson was the kindest man you could ever hope to meet. A legend in the truest sense of the word.
He is the reason I play. Been playing for the last 60 years. Been touring for the last 35 still am. Thank you Louie, love you man R.I.P. Ambassador Jenks
Louie and Buddy.... unmatched in speed, style, chops, you name it! And these guys weren't wearing muscle shirts and shorts. Pure class! Louie was ripping it up in this concert at age 65... just wow!
Louie was not only a great talent, he was also a very nice guy, unlike Buddy who was hated by both his band and manager. Buddy was a tremendous talent, but a prick of a person. There's a reason why Louie was often invited to the White House.
I have to agree there re Buddy, I saw him live at my High School in Parsippany NJ in '74 or so. He spent most of the time stalking around the stage, cocktail(s) in hand sniping at the performance of his band, all of whom looked to be young kids from Julliard ( spelling?) School of Music. He actually played drums for maybe a total of 15 minutes. The rest of the time, he was a jerk.
Unfassbar guter Drumsound , blitzschnelles kreatives Spiel, und man sieht Louie an , wieviel Freude er beim spielen hat. Unglaublich , was der Mann hier zeigt . In der Serie " Superdrumming " sah man , das er die Bassdrums mit Holzbeatern anspielt , sicherlich ein Grund für diesen knackigen Bassdrumsound
I’ll tell you one thing where Louie had it all over Buddy, his drum sound. He tuned his kit much lower and deeper. Buddy preferred the higher pitch tunings of the 1940’s pretty much throughout his career, which always sounded dated to me.
'Double-base all started with this lovely gentleman right here. A tap-dancer as a child, Louie applied and parlayed said skills to what you hear here (sorry about that) on the drumkit.
….AND the fact that he plays BOTH traditional grip as well as matched grip. I would have loved for Buddy to try and tell Louie that “he was holding his sticks wrong.”
My very first album I ever bought was Explosion, I was 16 in 1975. Wore it out!! Got the cd thirty years ago and now I'm a old man. Where did those years go Louie??
Topaz Video Enhance AI can't do miracles but great results nonetheless! The fact you had the time to upscale this in the first place is what beats me xD
thanks! ben', budy rich', louie bellson', gene krupa', tony williams', elvin jones', bernard purdie', all very pro' jazz drummers'. louie knowing buddys', swinging jazz' too peace
@loudastous1159 Your really shouldn't be so quick to put Neil down he was as versatile in his styles as many others and was far removed from the tub thumping tag so incorrectly pinned on him by those who have only seen him within the framework of Rush.
As I watched, in the beginning I said to myself "nothing new here that I haven't done back in my twenties and thirties - essentially one long snare drum roll at various speeds interrupted by occasional tom and cymbal attacks. Then at 4:16, we get into some serious cymbal work (that you don't see very often), and surprisingly, among this (if you are very attentive you will catch it) a small tribute to John Bonham from his Moby Dick solo. Also a nod to Zeppelin and Bonham's tom/bongo solo work in "Four Sticks" at 5:08 (did you get it - literally four sticks). A great drummer to be sure. But after thirty years of drumming, almost continuous snare rolls used as a solo make me yawn.
To think that in his time Louise Bellson defied convention in two VERY SIGNIFICANT WAYS. 1. Jazz drummer employing double kick playing 2. Interracial marriage with Ella Fitzgerald. 3.A much more convincing toupee than Buddy Rich
Bellson was mainly the double bass, a LOT of rolls, repetition of patterns and chops in EVERY solo - Sure, that what he played was good, whatever he played was technically great but I don't see LB as very creative. Someone has to say it
I am hobby drummer .On my drum wall I have 4 ...8x10 black and white pics on the wall ...I am a fan of many drummers out there in drum world ..but on the wall are just 4 pics ....its Buddy Rich ,Gene Krupa,Joe Morello and Louie Belson ..those are my drum gods ..period ..thanks for the msgnificant upload
Not a bad Mt Rushmore.
That's a great foursome, but let's not forget Chick Webb, Sid Catlett, Jo Jones because those guys influenced Gene, Buddy & Louie..
Good list! I played years ago and listened to these same guys! Really did not like buddy though!
People forget that Louis did it all...Composer,,arranger etc...How great was he!
He was also one heck of a nice guy!
Phenomenal. He was amazing.
Louie was 65 at the time !
Louie could have easily played with any metal band
He kind of did, a few times...only they had a lot more people to get the hard rock volume.
🙂
Louie Created the First Metal Band!!!
Louie would be 100 years old this year. 😮
No one more qualified than Louie to lead Buddy's band. They had some great drum battles... namely an LP " Are you ready for this". Louie maybe more inventive and musical.... The technique, the taste, the dynamics.....that's what some of todays drummers lack. Today it's all about how loud you can play.
I agree!
However, Neil Peart came, and the cycle continued. RIP
You have no idea what you're talking about. Paice! Ha ha ha. You missed Ringo! Plus, learn how to spell Weckl.
I met him many years ago Super nice guy. I’m just amazed at his playing for any age, but he’s older here and doesn’t even break a sweat. Inspiring is all I can say. What a talent.
So you say he's _inspiring,_ not _perspiring..._ I guess that's a true statement!
And he seems to enjoy playing, too!
Louie showed what set him apart here with his double kicks in the big band jazz context and a library of interesting chops that were his alone, along with hands that could keep up with Buddy in a drum battle as they had done numerous times. One of the world's all time greats.
For my money, Bellson had it all.....chops, dynamics, and taste !!!!
DAMN,YES,Buddy would have loved this.
That was by far the absolute "best" soloing I've ever heard from Louie.....Bravo!!
Besides being one of the greatest drummers of all time, Maestro Bellson was the kindest man you could ever hope to meet. A legend in the truest sense of the word.
All hail Uncle Louie . . The master grand father of double bass set up 🙏🙏🙏
Cleanest triplets I've ever heard.
Every note is clean and crisp. Perfect technique.
He is the reason I play. Been playing for the last 60 years. Been touring for the last 35 still am. Thank you Louie, love you man R.I.P. Ambassador Jenks
This is one of the greatest solos ever.
I also feel it was the finest i ever heard from Louie the great.
Agree👌
Louie and Buddy.... unmatched in speed, style, chops, you name it! And these guys weren't wearing muscle shirts and shorts. Pure class! Louie was ripping it up in this concert at age 65... just wow!
To all the young drummers out there watch these men play! Untouchable greats with dignity and class! Buddy Louie Gene!
The bands that backed up Bellson were fantastic!
One of my Greatest things to happen in my Life was meeting Buddy Rich when he and the band came and played at the Red Creek here in Rochester NY
Buddy’s band played Rochester quite a lot, it seems. 🤔🤷🏻♂️😅
Oh My God... incredible drumming. Bravo!
He is one of those rare jazz musicians who can play other kinds of music really well
Greg Bissonnette, Simon Phillips, Steve Smith, Vinnie Colaiuta, etc.
He was 65 here. Imagine that.
That
@@philwright2480 Thanks
People don’t fall apart as soon as they turn 60.
@@joksal9108 Absolutely i'm 60.
The great, one and only Louie Bellson, Mic DROP!
Great job ! One of my favourite Bellson clips.,
Louie was not only a great talent, he was also a very nice guy, unlike Buddy who was hated by both his band and manager. Buddy was a tremendous talent, but a prick of a person. There's a reason why Louie was often invited to the White House.

Wow I never heard of saw him play before.
I was a solid Gene Krupa fan. I am so impressed.
Louie…amongst the greatest…
One of the greatest of all time ON ALL FRONTS! The world needs MORE Louie Bellsons!
Wow! It was amazing seeing him years ago back in Rock Falls Illinois visiting and doing a workshop. Still have a signed drum head of his.
A true Master
Perhaps the one guy who could give Buddy a run for his money
A drummer way ahead of his time. Thanks for everything Louie. The creator of the two bass drums.
Just amazing chops and musical feel.
Unfassbar guter Drumsound , blitzschnelles kreatives Spiel, und man sieht Louie an , wieviel Freude er beim spielen hat. Unglaublich , was der Mann hier zeigt . In der Serie " Superdrumming " sah man , das er die Bassdrums mit Holzbeatern anspielt , sicherlich ein Grund für diesen knackigen Bassdrumsound
Buddy thought he was God’s gift to the world. Louis was everything Buddy could never be personally.
There's a man who loves what he does and does what he loves well!
I love whatever you did during remastering to bring the drums out more👍🏻
*Simply Magnificent! Two best drummers that I've ever seen: Louie Bellson and Buddy Rich.
Saw one of his drum clinics in LA about 100 years ago. RIP, one of the greats.
I love this guy! Total class act all the way. Burning 🔥 up the kit -- and all while wearing a tux. Hats off!
Monster chops !!! Rip Louie
Holy Moly - this guy is good.
On Buddy’s level. You would have to be to play at this gig.
Peak performance at about 65yo!
One word- Superlative!😊
Amazing
I’ll tell you one thing where Louie had it all over Buddy, his drum sound. He tuned his kit much lower and deeper. Buddy preferred the higher pitch tunings of the 1940’s pretty much throughout his career, which always sounded dated to me.
One of the greatest of all times !!!!
Louie is the Grandpa I wish I had.
'Double-base all started with this lovely gentleman right here. A tap-dancer as a child, Louie applied and parlayed said skills to what you hear here (sorry about that) on the drumkit.
THAT was impressive!
Fantastic!
Yup- the original jazz double bass blast beats master. Definite old school, swing style. Don’t hear playing like that anymore…
ALL rock drumers take note... he did that in a suit jacket with a buttoned up shirt and a bow tie without breaking a sweat!
His Books are fantastic !
Earth Soul Four Sticks Blues Jazz RocknRoll...
He played that for buddy
Most definitely
In a famous drum battle, Louie Bellson could make Buddy Rich work up a sweat 😅😅😅😅😅.
Class.
Indurance and perfection of rhythm...top dog
….AND the fact that he plays BOTH traditional grip as well as matched grip. I would have loved for Buddy to try and tell Louie that “he was holding his sticks wrong.”
Mr. Belson... the best... the best Jerry!
My very first album I ever bought was Explosion, I was 16 in 1975. Wore it out!! Got the cd thirty years ago and now I'm a old man. Where did those years go Louie??
Still playing his direct-to-disc “Note Smoking” album
El gran abuelo de los bateristas de metal de doble pedal🤘
Phenomenal! 👌👌👌👌
Could you imagine if Buddy used a double bass kit?
Wow!.....
Wow!
Incomparable
Topaz Video Enhance AI can't do miracles but great results nonetheless! The fact you had the time to upscale this in the first place is what beats me xD
Almost feels like buddy is assisting with this absolutely perfect solo
I miss this guy so much ! Used to see him at Donte's club in north Hollywood in the 70"
Me too. There was magic in those nights. Sitting at a two person table in front of Menza and Christlieb. Wrapped in fantastic music.
A-mazing ❣👍🏆
thanks! ben', budy rich', louie bellson', gene krupa', tony williams', elvin jones', bernard purdie', all very pro' jazz drummers'. louie knowing buddys', swinging jazz' too peace
i would put spot moon gel on snare...would be great to see loo play with slip knot...2 kicks wicked...
This is utter virtuosity.. How the hell he did this in a smart suit and bow tie simply beggars belief!
Playing like this in a Tux is no easy feat .
awesome! is he playing a remo kit? i didn't know they made drums, only roto toms, & heads. sounds great.
he was the vice-president of Remo at the time, I believe
Closest I've heard to Neil Peart, or the other way around to be more accurate, either way, two monsters of the percussive kind. RIP Guys.
Neil Peart has nothing on this LEGEND . . . . . Louie could play any genre of music. . . . . Neil can't
@loudastous1159 Your really shouldn't be so quick to put Neil down he was as versatile in his styles as many others and was far removed from the tub thumping tag so incorrectly pinned on him by those who have only seen him within the framework of Rush.
Was that smoke coming off those drums 🥁
Ok Louie...I hear you...
Holy smokes ! 🤘🏻
Why there are two Louie Bellson kits? Were they both used on this gig? I need a refresher cause I'm confused lol.
Louis is good all professional drum.set players should observe him
fora de série no instrumento 😊
THE BUS TAPES!!!!

You actually didn't say anything valuable to the drummers who are here.
The lead player almost F--ked up the whole song with that last note......
Людина мотор
Fantastic!!
