I’m starting in the iOS app development with an udemy course while i’m studing my degree and it’s been amazing and motivational to find your channel. I really appreciate people who shares experiences and knowledge. I hope you continue growing both in youtube and as a developer. Greetings from Spain!
Just gotta say, anytime I'm using an app that i really like, if it has a tip jar option, i always leave something. You could charge for an app, or have in app purchases, and if i like what the app does I'll probably pay. But if there's something like a tip jar or donation, I'm more likely to pay more than you would charge. It has a vibe of "hey, I'm an indie dev, doin my best, hope you like it", and it feels more human, and i always wanna help out. It's weird haha
Nice that you managed to make a decent amount of money with your app! My app's don't really make me money, but they definitely paid for themselves in allowing me to learn new things, helped me gain interviews and gave me interesting projects to talk about at interviews.
And that can't be overlooked, there is real value in all of those things. I would say that earning money is a bonus considering what my goal was when I set out, making a full app from scratch by myself.
@@tiannahl Thanks! I start my journey learning as iOS developer during the lockdown in Spain on my freetime. I’m consultant at EY. My first app is Bullets: apps.apple.com/es/app/bullets/id1536420851 I love your feedback and advices! Thanks a lot! Apologies for my english!
@@tiannahl you are doing great, hope to see more content from you, Im also working on an application, just looking you count those figures is just motivating.
Great job and thank you for sharing! I am a professional dev on the fence of starting but your experience was very encouraging! Hope 2021 is going great!
Wonderful to see this ! I’m developing an augmented reality music app starting on iOS. This is motivating. Do you recommend building multiple small apps or 1 big app with multiple features?
I recommend taking on a project that you can finish. So be careful the scope of the project. Start with the core features and you can add new features with future updates. This way you spend time actually making features your users want.
@@tiannahl Thanks! yes everyone's advice was that too, but I still went and added everything hehe. Now I just need to cut back and focus on making everything work smoothly/user-friendly. If some of these keep causing errors, I'll just remove them from the first version. Before this, I did much smaller projects that were able to release but the main critique was usability. So it really needs to be a focus from now. keep up the great work!
Awesome, you crushed it! I love this video. What is the name of your app if you don’t mind my asking. I would love for you to show us your app and what it does! Congrats and wishing you and even more prosperous 2021

So cool seeing your journey! Definitely will sub to keep up. Thank you for taking the time to share/motivate. Looking forward to seeing more of your content and learning any tips I can from you
i am getting started on app develolment as passive income, but i am short of idea, can you please provide some idea to get started with which could make a little money too. thanks.
Hey Tiana , first of all I appreciated that video , it's inspiring me a lot. I'm graduating with a degree in IT engineering and I'm currently starting my iOS app journey. How did you start your journey ? Did you take a course or use an official Apple swift developer book? thanks
Hey Tianna! Thanks a bunch for sharing - very informative! I love it! I'm interested in learning more about how Indie developers handle reviews on the App Store (eg How to find the time to deal with it, reply or no? keeping reviews or start over? implementations of the "Review us"-ask, etc). Would love to hear your thoughts! I subscribed, looking forward to following your successes in 2021!
great story and hope your income will keep increasing!! to support you and as a thank you for your video, could you share with us the name of your app?
Hey Tianna! Loved the honest content and subscribed immediatly, such a good channel. I wanted to ask, how did you manage to get traffic to your apps? have you paid for ads? did you promote them on social media? if its just organic, have you worked on ASO?
Thanks for subbing! And to answer your question I would say it's organic as I haven't done any ads or social media marketing. I think what helped was adding support for other languages which allows other regions to find and use it.
If you wanted to secure every dollar made from your app, where would you go to publish your app? Apple seems to take a healthy cut of profit, so what could you do/ where could you go to combat that?
Then you should have your own website or host from where people can download your app but it's going to be really hard tho because you can't drive organic downloads unlike established stores like the play store and app store.
^ This Also unless it's a Mac app you won't really be able to do that. Side loading isn't supported quite yet for iPhones (not sure about the play store)
Wow i really loved the video.but why dont you make a video concerning the actual app coding that is the programming language used and all of these stuffs?
Hi Manuel, I made these videos because I couldn't find a lot of content on these kinds of subjects and wanted thought others might be interested too. With that said I would like to make all types of other content.
Thanks for this, extremely helpful. I'm working on an app at the moment, love this sort of realism these videos provide. So would you recommend the tip jar vs. flat out direct payment? I'm developing for Android, as I'm a Java student... So apparently android is even harder to make money on. I don't want to splurge ads on the app, I hate that on apps that I use so why would I do it to other people... But... It would be nice to cover costs and make a little extra off the app
After having done both, I would say the tip jar is a great approach for a very simple app where it wouldn't make sense to put anything behind a paywall, because the core function of the app would then be unusable. However, if your app is structured in a way where implementing in-app purchases would make sense one way or another then I would go the in-app payments route.
@@tiannahl thanks heaps for the reply! Great to see others sharing info like this. My app is trying to do one simple thing really really well, so I don't see any function that I could reasonably charge for... But a tip jar seems like the most reasonable way to cover costs
@@progtom7585 Yeah give it a try only one way to find out. Just be clear in your messaging that it is a Tip Jar so people don't misunderstand and you should be fine.
Congrats on a great first year, Tianna 🚀
Thank you!!
