Moral of the story: there are things in life you will not survive, so please recognise them and ACT accordingly. Getting too attached to something is an addiction.
I like how this illustrates how an artist can tie their entire identity to their craft, and how sometimes, that can lead to an unhealthy obsession with it, to the point that you dont know who you are outside of it
Lessons I've learned: 1. Don't build up something that's gonna bring you down. 2. Sometimes giving up is the right decision. 3. Let go of something when you know it's bringing you down. 4. You should resist from your addiction, because if you won't, It'll bring you down. 5. Always leave something for yourself.
There's a deeper way to read this. The movie isn't just about being hooked to a single addiction like knitting, it's about our general state of mind, constantly engaging in activies that are never satisfying and missing out the present moment because of it. Notice how she started playing with the scissors after realizing the needles are gone. She only stayed mindful for 20 seconds. That's how most of us live our lives.
The sound... no one is going to appreciate that the sound in this animation is much more curated than usual? It's amazing! My congrats to Janne Jankeri.
If it was that easy things would be different. Nobody wants to be addicted. You can't ask what's wrong about the addiction. You have to ask what's right about it. What is this person getting out of it that they aren't in life. A person's behavior will always be shaped by their environment. Hey, I'm just sharing what I've learned. If we don't help each other we'll never get anywhere, right? Here, I'm not saying you're completely wrong, but give this TED Talk a chance. It made me, and the one family member I have left, realize that... we were wrong... th-cam.com/video/66cYcSak6nE/w-d-xo.html
this is really deep as her addiction to knitting is like her addiction to her ambitions. in the end she sacrifices a part of herself to her ambitions, but it still pulls her over the edge. in the end, she bit through her own hair to se herself free. she lost a part of herself, and her addiction to 'knitting'. picking up the scissors she realizes that she could have prevented all her losses if she snipped the thread. she learns to appreciate the scissors and how there should be an end to everything. sorry for posting such a long comment xD
I’ve seen this lots of times, but I recently learned that the feeling of having a “never ending to do list” is pretty common for a lot of people. And this really illustrates that well, and how the list drags you down eventually until you’ve given all you got
i think that addiction is heavy implied. Just look at where she is a barren area ( symbolizing isolation or the effect that the addiction had on her life) sitting infront of a cliff (showing the stakes that she put herself in) all so she can knit ( the addiction). She knits sooo much that even when danger is presented she would sacrifice her own life to continue and only when she was about to fall off the cliff (death) did she crawl (struggling to wing off) to gain the ability to to cut off the unhealthy relationship ( to go cold turkey). Scenes later we can see her hair is forever ruined ( how these addiction can impact your life afterwards) and still we see her fiddling with the needles (showing her urges to start again) and even after she dropped the needles she to fill in the void started playing with the scissors (another addiction) which we can only see as causing self harm in the end. And to bring more light to the sistuation think of what she is using needles and scissors ( which was a slang for a drug). Im not knocking what you are saying, but i rather you not knock someone else's claim without exploring why they would even say it. Edit: wow thank you all for the likes!!!! ☺☺
Mukhethwa Daphney ... and much more dangerous one. That one was quasi-"creative" - she was making something. This new one is going to be destructive - just self destructive, hopefully.
My grandfather used to tell of an old woman who lived in his town. She was one of the fastest knitters in around and the legend was that she knit so fast that she kept a bucket of water next to her rocking chair so she could cool off her needles when they got too hot.

Well she used her hair to knit after she ran out of things to knit so I’m sure that could happen. She could start snipping other parts of her body off once she run out of things
She isolated herself in an environment where she wouldn’t be disturbed. But her decision nearly killed her. When she finally realized that she had to let go over her habit, she found another habit that came similar to the one she was forced to give up
I didn't know this was a metaphor for addiction until I read the comments, otherwise I thought she was passing time with knitting in a drum line solo sounding way
I think this story is about how people tend to keep on emotionally invest in something that they should have ended a long time ago, ...whether it be career, a project, an unhealthy relationship, etc.. There are many opportunities to end it gracefully and begin a new chapter in life, but many simply refuse to do so. This emotional investment will eventually take hold of someone completely and drag him to an abyss of no return. And whilst it was easy to put a stop to it before, now it's out of control. One would get deeply entangled and can't get out, just like what happened to this woman in the short film. But if you are lucky and do struggle free, you would realized it was by your own hands, stubbornness and refusal to let go that you have caused yourself such a tremendous amount of grief. When you do let go, it's freedom.
I feel like this is how we getting addicted to technology and more focused by it that we didn't recognize we're already destroying ourselves and this is absolutely a good example!

Acredito q o que querem transmitir é o apego ao que faz mal, a dificuldade em deixar ir, seja um trabalho, um relacionamento, em tudo ela se doou sem pensar no que seria melhor para ela e isso a levava para o abismo.
It is all relative. When you can fall off a cliff, not get hurt, and then climb back to the top using knitting needles, no one is going to be too amazed about sitting down to knit even farther back from where many others would, just to take in the view. Also, the fact that she could not anticipate what was about to happen as she continued adding more yarn to her work, makes calling her "brave" for where she decided to sit, a hard sell.
@@kahlesjf true you may call her brave as putting everything to save her effort And if you aren't still blind of acting so positively then You may see it as foolishness...as she put her everything in a trouble without judging it .
1:02 She is going to pick up the scessior to stop her addiction but end up with picking the another wool..... Thats why in the end she regrets of not using the scessior
I dont think she was going to pick the scissors up intentionally. She doesn't even know that she has an addiction. I saw it as a way to show the viewer that no, she wont cut the knit, she intends to keep going.

Everyone can have their own perspective so it's not in any limits of description... And thats a sign of a master piece
@@kahlesjf true you may call her brave as putting everything to save her effort
And if you aren't still blind of acting so positively then
You may see it as foolishness...as she put her everything in a trouble without judging it .
it is not about being brave, this is hidden moral aspect of this video...
I loved this animation! I can't stop watching it, I just search for Animation, and it appears and I put it on. haha!

moral of story: stay away from cliffs when you knit and do not make scarfs for giants.

She is going to pick up the scessior to stop her addiction but end up with picking the another wool.....
Thats why in the end she regrets of not using the scessior

Yw, English is not my first language 2
I dont think she was going to pick the scissors up intentionally. She doesn't even know that she has an addiction. I saw it as a way to show the viewer that no, she wont cut the knit, she intends to keep going.
Moral of the story:
Use better conditioner for stronger hair
This is The Best!
LMAO
Lol imean like fuck this needs
To get more likes
Haha Soo funny 😑

Como é triste a compulsão, pois mesmo se livrando do tricor, onde essa obsessão levou pedaço dela (cabelos), acaba encontrando outro vício. O problema nunca foi o tricô, e sim o comportamento obsessivo compulsivo

This masterpiece represents when you survive from an addiction.
I think the story means , like something is not bad but get addicted in something is dangerous .

The actual moral of the story is sometimes you got to retire

Don't work too hard with obsession, you can miss your life and only realize it when you're old or being close to death.
Weird I find this 15 years later when I first saw this I was still in high-school. Nothing changed. My obsession still kills me, and yet I could never throw it over the edge.
Outstanding short animation! Good job to all involved.
My school actually showed us this and said this is what addiction is like.
OtakuOtaku LoveLove I don’t know how it seems to me funny
@@user-tu4xc5vx6v she can't stop knitting, even when her life is in danger she continued to knit, she ran out of yard so she used her hair and even though she had nothing left to knit she has the urge to do it still.
Your school taught you wrong. It wasnt about a addiction at all.
Main Mac Daddy absolutely brilliant
@@jessjess3369 you tell this guy he was taught wrong yet you say brilliant when this other guy is literally explaining the embodiment of addiction.. not the sharpest crayon in the box aye?
