It's actually very simple; it's a bad story. The guy who made this wasn't supposed to demonstrate a great deal of creativity in regards to story, just animation. (I hope, at least)
It was because of the carelessness of the old man. He knew he was cutting lives short by trying to get to the little girls string. In the end she got her way.

And at the end, they added a little twist, while most might have thought he finally killed the girl and the cat, grabbing the scythe. Though after a moment of tension and going black, he was just shown peacefully cutting grass... What might imply that death isn't a mean, revenge seeking figure, getting personal satisfaction out of ending people's lifes, but something inescapable, that has a cause and reason and is not happening out of someones fun and joy ( what they slightly implied first) but out of purpose - in this case it's "just a job" - without him holding a grudge against - in this case - the little girl.

Wonderfully executed, no two ways about it, however, the sudden transformation of a babbling n giggling cute little kid into an intimidating avenger who comprehended the whole scenario in a jiffy and put the reaper’s life on the line to push him to undo her pet’s death, sends the plot a bit over the top to say the least.

All that skill in animation, character design, rendering, modelling, rigging, shading, lighting, and compositing but they (Kyra Buschor and Cynthia Collins) still have a long way to go on the most important elements of all: writing and directing. The Grim Reaper man is shown as a meticulous being who pays attention to the tiniest details yet he allows a child to enter his place of work and, defying all logic, chases after the strand of life haphazardly killing people instead of going directly for the kid sitting on the floor. Then how come he, the Grim Reaper AKA Death himself, has a life-strand? Also, how come the kid behaves like a toddler of three (complete with annoyingly cliche giggle) only to suddenly be capable of figuring out the meaning of the work station and get one over on the Reaper? Lastly, what does the ending mean? Are we supposed to take it that the Reaper, having encountered a 'too cute' kid who loves kittens (and I wouldn't actually trust that kid with an animal for 5 minutes), is converted from a lifetime of death-dealing to quit his job and become a gardener? Sorry, but it doesn't work for me. Fabulous technically but a flawed story and flawed characterisation.
If you consider his facial expressions when first answering the door, we don't know he wouldn't have been happy to see company. Sure his work is meticulous but until the door bell rang, he was just another cog in his machine. That just shows us he is driven to do his work, which is likely why he ran after the strings rather then went for the controller; he was unused to the machine not acting in accordance and didn't adapt. I would argue the video portrays a person who likely doesn't pay attention to tiny detail, but instead prefers to follow rhythms. He is likely somewhat unsocialized but aware of general appropriate social behavior. This makes him "getting out more" at the end of the video a nice touch in my opinion. Immortality seems cool at first until you realise immortality doesnt always specify non aging or no injuries. After about 200 years people would just be converted into suffering blind and deaf piles of flesh most likely begging to die. That and overpopulation means famine and famine means suffering. Overrated?
Immortality seems cool at first until you realise immortality doesnt always specify non aging or no injuries. After about 200 years people would just be converted into suffering blind and deaf piles of flesh most likely begging to die. That and overpopulation means famine and famine means suffering. Sure death doesnt sound fun at first but in my opinion I'd rather die when nature decides its my time to go.

I really like animated movies like this
At the end I was about to pounce at my phone like wooo
He's the Grim Reaper. The child was going to die trying to find the cat, but once she realized what was going on, not even Mr. Grim Reaper was immune to death, so she bargained with The grim Reaper because he was not even going to let the cat use more of it's nine lives, but luckily her Black mailing skills pay off and the cat is on it's second life. Do people have those too. Sometime three or four extra lives in their pocket.
