This really highlights just how important the non verbal phase and non verbal communication in general, throughout life can be so damaging. A child’s trajectories are dependent on another’s own emotional capacities, or lack there of. I think what is missed in the narc recovery space, is the lack of identification with the journey of the narcissist themselves. So many parallels & the roles in narcissistic family, although set to a degree. Are totally dependent on our behaviours & their perceptions. This allows us to understand how some children avoid a pathological disorder, yet remain tied to narcissism via Echoism. The lack of stability (emotional and psychological) of safety, fragments all the children. I love Kernbergs view on the family system, it fits the roles really well.
From an educational pov, I really don’t know why object relations, attachment theory and regulation theory, aren’t a pre requisite on all schools. Plus, in the antenatal clinics to teach new parents about how important, attachment, elicited love, quiet love and co-regulation is for each and every one of us! ❤️‍🩹
