maybe they dont want info given out for free, after they spent thousands for Design & Art school? Lol. who knows. Sometimes I think FB automatically labels some Videos with thumbs down, for competition? who knows. Maybe just Trolls!

Some people think their opinion is more important than it really is. It doesn’t matter anyway, because TH-cam counts both a thumbs up and a thumbs down in the same manner, as a public response. 😏

I have found these techniques incredibly helpful as I was not making progress. Realized it was time to go to the basics and focus. The author does not over-explain, but points out important details and illustrates well. Thanks so much! I will continue to view!

In December I decided to start playing with watercolor. It's super fun, but unlearning 50 years of oil, acrylic, and pencil is a challenge. Your videos are absolutely the best regarding how to work with this medium!!!
Blotting water from the ferrule end (another vid of yours) was better than sliced bread.
    Thank you so much💦💙🙏🖌️

I never cease to be amazed. I have been struggling away with watercolor without the basic know-how explained by Steve in this video and others. It is like wow is that how you do it, and that apples to his entire series on basics for washes, brush strokes, paper, etc. Lots of other videos available on watercolor painting, but The Mind of Watercolor by Steve is the best, by far. There is so much to learn. It is one thing to be an artist, but to be able to teach is yet another gift.

I love the clouds that use a thirsty brush to pull the whispy grays in different directions. I suppose it is a wet technique but really helps to show how the brush can pull those shapes and it looks so beautiful. I don’t think I ever get tired of looking at the sky.

I’m so happy to have found your videos! I used to draw in high school back in the 80’s and every so often I did fairly well with a piece and I would take it to my farther for approval and he would tell me he liked it but would also tell me to stop putting my energy into it because you can’t make a living doing it. I finally stopped and didn’t draw till this year. That’s over 30 years of experience I allowed to go by without enjoying. I came across a few videos that made my inner artist sing and you are one of them. I now dream in watercolors. I love how you teach, you are calming and explain the technique in a simple manner. Thank you 🙏

dann wiester Quite welcome! Works well on Arches Paper. Just lay it down lightly and carefully. If the dry wash is heavy with pigment you might loosen up the underlying pigment. And papers will vary due to sizing differences.

Terrific video! That 'tip' about wetting a larger area than you intend to paint, so not to get hard edges - genius! Wish I'd figured that out a lot sooner - but hey, better late than never.
At 5:11, that looks like trees (darker) with a snow (lighter) blanket around it.
The 'haystack' - it's a group of rocks, silly!
Very 'impressionist"! Very nice tree at the end, too!

I really liked these 3 videos on washes. I can actually manage a large area not too badly, but I had no idea how to do smaller or irregular areas without fussing (and often just lifting the wash right back off the paper) :-). As an aside, it is probably not watercolour, but I am haunted right now by a Stephen Quiller painting where he has this completely stunning strong flat even blue in much of the painting. I would love to have that much control (maybe one day).

This is great information. I tend to paint dry on dry for the second layer (and sometimes I forget the do that for the first layer too) because I wasn't aware that I could do wet on wet twice (or more). Really love this technique. Now if I can just remember it when I'm outside.

Thank you Steve.... Only half way into this video and suddenly it's hit me..... Now I understand how to let the 'dropping-in' colour technique to allow it do amazing things THEN fade to white with no lines/edges! Complete stress saver, I love the effects, but whenever I have managed to achieve them it's a sheer fluke... A happy accident, finally it all makes sense to me! I have also learned after watching you, to.... S L O W down, like you do, you are so relaxed. I believe this must be because of the balance of having enough water ..... Right brush for the size of paper, giving time to move pigment or water. That's yet another valuable piece of knowledge you have shared with us. Thank you so much!

This is awesome! All 3 of your first videos are great. I'm just learning watercolor (I usually do graphite pencil work) but I tend to "dive into the deep end" when trying new things so I've been doing actual full paintings (based on tutorials here on yt). Been fairly successful but the last one I did had a lot of various washes in it to get the effects the painting had. I failed big time!
In this one video of yours, I learned what every one of my mistakes were and how to correct them!
I'm off to play with just doing various washes like this to learn the mind of the paint! :) :) Thank you so much!
