That solenoid wire looks sketchy, Sam. Look. That starter relay draws a lotta current so you should place a starter relay between it and you're battery just to be on the safe side. The wires from the battery to the relay and the wire from the relay to the starter relay should be on the beefy side. But the wire from the battery to the starter button and relay can be pretty light.
Hey Sam, you are sailing under the Montego Bay convention that regulates international maritime traffic. You are flying a US flag. If you don't need a license to sail your boat under US regulation, you don't need a licence to sail in Greece, which follows the montego Bay convention. Plus , I have been sailing in Greece for 20 years. I was asked my licence only once, which I did not have with me then... and... no problem. I mentioned the convention and the greek port police desisted immediately
Rolly Tasker sails were originally from Perth in Western Australia; Rolly himself helped me with my first boat, he was a local legend in sailing circles and personally made very good sails, and I am sure the Thailand-made sails would live up to his proud name and workmanship
Please take off the collar anode, so you can push that shaft back by~3 inches. Then install a prop nut anode. This way your propeller won`t hit the rudder. Huge fan from Tahiti, i am a marine diesel mechanic. Thank you for the great videos!

I found the E propulsion very poorly made mind broke after 3 times plus 1 kW is 1.34 hp NOT 3hp which they claim .. May feel 3hp on a lake, BUT in the sea, you will go backwards like I did... Love your videos safe journey
Looking at thar prop shaft assembly I'm thinking that that shaft should be cut down an inch or two. The prop should really be centered in that rudder/prop window. That would certainly give you more room to move the rudder by increasing it's range of limits. Have the marina straighten out the prop as best they can and keep it as a spare.
Sam, saw your message about TH-cam not liking something of yours. Keep your head up and don't understand Google, think they are out of control sometimes. Mentioned boating license. I'm an American living in Spain. I ended up going to Gibraltar and doing a course through RYA. After I got a Day skipper license I applied for an International certificate of competence (ICC). With your certificate from your course you might qualify and all Europe countries except it.
Loose-footed sails are great but it makes your outhaul do more work,. I had to modify my outhaul with a small block at the clew to manage the extra load.
I assume you have got the main recut by now, but the easiest fix from what I can tell is to just cut 150mm off the bottom. Shorten the foot at the same time. Except the thread lines out of the clew won't be as designed. You are now going to get a really good geometry lesson. Rolly Tasker are great sailmakers but they can only work with the numbers sent to them.
Good for you for putting an outboard bracket on the stern . They may not look great but when you're boat is a work boat like yours you have to be prepared. I think the electric sail boats could use then. It sure helped you on the Bayfield. Love your practical approach to sailing. That main sail has to be fixed and I love the way you are so chill about it. Thanks for the great videos.
I put an outboard bracket on my Westerly despite the vociferous objections of some in the community ("Your sail is your backup power!"). It's been a game changer for us as we sail in an area of constant, strong, currents where callouts for failed engines are common. It's saved our hide a couple of times now and gives so much more confidence when motoring through dangerous, narrow, channels!
I was in Malta back in the mid 80's when the firework factory on Rabat caught fire...crazy...they had to boat all the fire crews out from the main island.

Well done, Sam. I'm watching your video from the port of La Turballe in the Quiberon Bay, to the east of the Golfe du Morbihan but north from Saint-Nazaire. Your repairs seem to be just the ticket. For your main, you could set up a cunningham like on dinghies and tension your luff until you find a definitive solution. That's what I do on my little Beneteau Cabochard. You could also cut the head short and redo the grommet. Good luck.
Informative video, sharing we always sail with one reef in the main, making life more comfortable onboard, using the jib as a throttle, presently heading from Azores to Madiera, Cabo Verde and Brazil.

Alex goes sailing, TH-camr. His white plastic pad for his outboard motor broke off in half, just to warn you. Also I've heard similar parts bought from chandlers are far more expensive than Auto shops, like the relay, if you buy one.
Amazing !! right at the start of the video showing Manoel Island, when I was a kid aged 10, I used to go catch all sorts of marine life with a net and keep them in a bucket right at that spot. My Dad had a job in oil in Libya in the late 60's early 70's and on his leave periods would rent an apartment in Gzira in Malta. We would fly out from the UK to meet him for summer holidays there.
I just had my cutless bearing go out. 2 months after I had my boat out of the water. Had to crane it out again. If you have your shaft out already you should replace your cutless bearing.
You can add a flicker to your mast crane to hold the back stay away from the main’s leech. This way you get to keep the extra sail area. Still kind of a pain at times.
Nice scenery at the end, wow, I think I would have replaced the wire with a heavier gauge, not another one like it, thinking of current and potential heat build up, but cool fix on the prop and rudder, hopefully the sails perform well ✌️

I like the ePropulsion system too. The other thing a motor comes in handy for is fighting against current in rivers or atoll passes. I dunno if that’s a thing for you, but for me, that’s one of the big reasons. The coolest part of that system is unlike an outboard, like my Tanzer 22 has, an electric motor wouldn’t fail to start when an oil tanker forgets the rules of the water, and doesn’t make any effort to slow or change course for an unpowered craft, and the crew starts shouting foul language and telling you to watch where you’re going. Oh, I can SEE where I was going, I just couldn’t make the wind blow harder! 🤬

The thing that strikes me about the settup on the prop is there seems to be a fair bit of spare space front and rear of the anode on the shaft and you can get narrower profile anodes that take even less room but carry the same amount of material this freeing more length. Which means which Leeds me to think of you wanted to you could easily take length off the front end true it up neatly and recut woodruff keyway thus moving the prop away from the rudder blade harm's way. I kind of think some mod has been done in past maybe replacement shaft that sets it to fat astern the prop should not be able to touch the rudder on any turn. Hope you can correct this. Mark

We had a divin dog ladder like that on our westsail 42. High sides. We slung a fender under it to stop the bumps, and when the ladder is down in the water we kept the fender under the legs to hold it off the hull. That way your toes can get on the steps, otherwise they lay against the hull. You didn’t have that issue. Beautiful sails in first grade materials. Good for many years.
Visited Malta last year, it's a beautiful bunch of islands and lots of interesting places concentrated into a very small area. It's kinda funny how I recognised most of the places shown in the video (often even going "yep, that's _exactly_ where we were") and with those that I haven't, I still have at least a vague idea where they probably are. Malta, but especially Valetta and the Three Cities are a pretty small place.
I'm still puzzled as to why this happened. The prop and shaft should be designed so that the rudder will never touch prop blades. Maybe the prop is too large for the boat, or maybe the shaft is too long?
Great job on the rudder mangle. That should do, but would recommend the next time you plan a haul out that you should do a complete inspection of the rudder and post structure inside the rudder. Not sure where you will be able to place a rudder stop inside the cockpit. Maybe a clamp on steel collar to the rudder stalk, but be aware any rudder stop located in an area where you are going to be is a hazard, a pinching hazard to be precise, and you do not want your fingers or toes to get squeezed by this! I think the reason the ladder is on the stern is in case you fall overboard while sailing, you would grab onto the trailing safety line and pull yourself back to the boat and then climb into the boat using the ladder. Not sure if you would be able to pull yourself along to the side of the boat, just my 2 cents worth.

I have the same kind of transom on my boat and am fabricating a swimming platform in transom shape which i can pull up or let down to jump from and also carry a dinghy on it resting on its side.

The Maltese flag, half white, half red, is the courtesy flag. Only boats registered in Malta should use the 8-pointed cross as their ensign.

Can you lower the boom/mast attachment (goose neck 19:03) 6 inches instead of cutting the sail? The boom looks pretty high.

You could try to rig a Cunningham so you don't need to do a full reef - maybe from the lowest shackle to the tack.

Good of them to lend you their specialist tools to loosen the winch.

Seems like you would have had the prop shaft shortened while it was at the machine shop so the prop could no longer hit the rudder

You can buy a "rope" ladder in a case to mount on the rail for emergencies. It has a tail to pull, and being soft doesn't affect docking.

I have the same kind of transom on my boat and am fabricating a swimming platform in transom shape which i can pull up or let down to jump from and also carry a dinghy on it resting on its side.
