      Moncrief, David Thompson, and Nique are definitely on the short list too. English. Agree on Mitch... great defender too. Not a lot of wasted motion on offense, similar to Jordan. Great fundamentals. Strong asf. Didn't realize he averaged more 3 pt attempts than Dirk. That Run TMC team took a lot of 3's for that era, and were crazy uptempo. So much fun to watch.
      Agree with the guy above that says it's more like they're forgotten in general. As true aficionados don't underrate a guy like Richmond or Thompson. Nique and Moncrief however being left out of the top 50 is flat out underrated.

    Mitch Richmond was shooting 5-6 threes a game before it got popular. Oh yeah, 39% for his career, also. He was one of my favorite players as a kid because he could pretty much do it all and he wasn't just one of those set-shot three point shooters. He could get it off the screen, off the dribble, on the pull up, drive and dunk, shoot contested mid-range jumpers, whatever you wanted. The guy was smooth. Glad he got a ring in LA his last season, he deserved it. Mitch and young Ray Allen were very similar kinds of players.

    Always liked Richmond for his great outside shooting. Really a 2 guard that was ahead of his time and he would be insane in today’s game - with no hand checking! The Warriors trade baffled many for years to come. They wanted to get a big man so they traded for Owens who was all hype at that point - and who wasn’t really a big man anyway. When it comes to 2 guards we always look at MJ and Kobe as the gold standard - but I also appreciate the guys who can make it rain - from Tony to Byron Scott to Dumars to Richmond to Ray Allen to Klay.

    I think Pistol Pete is underrated but his case is weird. Like, my top 10 greatest players of all time goes like this: MJ > a big gap > (Bird, Kareem or Magic in any order for 2-4) > The Big Fundamental > Black Mamba > The Dream > Shaq > Wilt > Bill
    BUT, when i make a best possible starting 5 all time, it looks like this: At the 1) Pistol Pete 2) MJ 3) Bird 4) Duncan 5) Hakeem
    I used to have Magic at the 1 and i understand everyone who does but the more and more Pistol footage i watch, the more i realize that he had the best ball handling skills, IQ, and passing abilities of all time. Everything Magic could do, he could do better. I've still yet to see any other player throw full court curve ball passes or backward jump shots like he could do, in games. From the time he was a little boy to the time he retired, Pistol ALWAYS had a basketball in his hands. Not even MJ practiced that much.

      @pzooka 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Key Skywalker So I don’t disagree with Tim Duncan being a top 10 player all time, in fact I would make an argument that you could place him ahead of Kareem. I disagree with the inconsistency in your logic. 1) There is a decent sized list of NBA greats who haven’t missed the playoffs, that’s not really the best individual stat line.
      2) 5-1 Finals record, a players/teams Finals record can be a horrible stat to look at from face value. Jerry West was 1-8 in the Finals which is god awful, but isn’t going to the Finals and losing better than not going at all? Obviously this doesn’t take anything away from Duncan’s near perfect record, it’s just Finals records in general are not good reference points.
      3) Shaq and Kobe hadn’t accomplished anything yet when the Spurs beat them. 1998-1999 Lakers were not the same Lakers that went on to win a 3peat in the Finals.... bottom line. This doesn’t take anything away from the Spurs but let’s not take “Shaq and Kobe’s defeat” out of context.
      4) The fact that you referenced an NBA legend as Lechoke definitely shows your bias about certain accomplishments or eras in the league. But just because you’re underselling LBJ doesn’t necessarily mean you’re overselling Duncan so we’ll just ignore that
      5) you seem to be obsessed with Tim Duncan’s personality traits that have nothing to do with basketball skill or accomplishments ie referencing his humbleness, loyalty, and cheap clothes. Those details are just irrelevant to this whole discussion

    • @MasterKeyMagic
      @MasterKeyMagic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Peter Virden 1) Sure but how many of them did it for 19 seasons straight, win 5 rings, 3 Finals MVP's, 2 MVP's, always was on a All Defensive team while maintaining a win ration of .710 in the loaded conference?
      2) Finals records without context are irrelevant. For instance, leflops 9 trips to the finals sounds impressive until you realize that the east was so weak that they had to do away with the East v West all star game format. To get to his 6 trips to the finals, Duncan had to get through prime Shaq, KG, Yao Ming, Dirk, Stoudemire, Gasol, Divoc, vets like Malone, Hakeem and Ewing and when he got old, younglings like Griffin. These are just the ones at his position. This is also why I have Duncan over Kobe just slightly, because Kobe didn't face this level of competition at his position oh and without Shaq, Kobe might make one or two of those finals but he ain't winning more than 1 without a miracle.
      3) You're thinking about 1999, which I'd like to point out was not easy as Kobe was already putting up big numbers. I was referring to 2003 when the Spurs final put a stop to the then undefeated force that was Shaq and Kobe.
      4) Of course I'm going to disrespect a man who ignorantly and arrogantly called himself the greatest of all time. LeSellOut brought this on himself. As for eras, my allegiance is with the truth. If somebody matchs MJ's efficiency, defense and accolades while putting up the 45ppg MJ would be putting up today, I'll concede that if that player maintains that peak for 10 straight seasons, he would be better than MJ. I don't hate any era I just have a lenses to read what the numbers really mean. Why? Because the context shows that theres never been an easier era to for offense because hand checking is banned, bigs can't defend the post for more than 3 seconds, any contact is a foul and a 90's foul can be an ejection with fines today, the shot clock resets to 14 instead of 24 creating more processions per a game.
      5) I mention Duncans personality traits because without them the greatest trio in NBA history would not have been possible. Duncan shared the spot light, never let his ego create a problem like Shaq and Kobe did or Leflop and Irving, and he took pay cuts to keep his winning team together. He cared about having the best team possible, not being the best player possible. Also another reason I have him just above Kobe. I mentioned his clothes were cheap to emphasize the point why he is often overlooked. He never drew unnecessary attention to himself.

    • @pzooka
      @pzooka 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Key Skywalker 1) Absolutely, Timmy was a beast of an iron man and the Spurs wouldn’t hold that record without him on the team. But if you want to add in further context, like you did with pointing out LBJ dominating the weaker E Conf saying he would have never made that many Finals appearances in the West, you are absolutely right. But Duncan would have never pulled his amazing act of playoff dominance off without coming into such a perfect situation with the Spurs. He had the veteran experience of David Robinson to pull from immediately, an up coming future HOF coach Popovich to guide him, and an overall organization that gives a shit about its players. Imagine if Duncan had been drafted to the Knicks! Or the fucking Cavs, they wouldn’t have a title! So these circumstances contributed a giant amount to Duncan’s success, but you have to tip your hat to Timmy D bc he took every bit of advantage of it, ceased every moment and never took it for granted.
      2) I feel like you could put Duncan over Kobe if you’re strictly comparing accolades and being completely objective about the situation. But narratives play a big part in a superstars legacy: game winning shots, intense rivalries, etc. You seem like you’re more into the old school basketball play style so you should be able to appreciate that. For instance, Kobe Bryant defeating a HOF Boston Celtics team that has a legendary rivalry with the Lakers since the beginning of the league. Spurs championship against the Cavs and Nets cannot compare to something like that you know. Not all rings are equal
      3) So the Spurs beat Shaq and Kobe in their early phase and then much later in their bickering phase. That is no small task by any means. But LA was untouched for 3 straight years. Although at that point it’s just up to personal preference. Either you a lakers fan or spurs fan in that scenario. Neither answer is wrong, whether you want to say “Shaq and Kobe beat themselves” or say “the spurs were the ultimate downfall of the Lakers”. But Orlando knocked the Bulls out of the playoffs when MJ first returned, team stability is important. Also Spurs have never won back to back championships, that definitely says something.
      4) At that point you’re just getting into circumstances again, put players in different situations and eras you’re going to get varying results. LBJ has a case to call himself the GOAT, just like every guy on your Top 10 list above us has a case. And I don’t know why you and other people are dead set on comparing LBJ to Jordan. It’s contradictory since LBJ isn’t even on your list, and yet you immediately compare him to your number one spot MJ? And comparing Lebron to Jordan in general is always a major downfall of judgement. They as players couldn’t be more opposite, Mike was a regular sized guard who was ball dominant and contorted his body to get around defenders making a living playing half court knocking down jumpers while Lebron is a giant athletic freak who likes to pass the ball or in his hay day just go straight over people (I’m aware Jordan was also dunking on everyone) while he’s absolutely dominant in transition. LBJ is more comparable to Magic or Larry Bird. Although Luka Doncic is starting to look like a young Lebron minus the athleticism, and if it wasn’t for LBJ then a guy like Luka wouldn’t even exist in the NBA today. Who do you think LD grew up watching and modeled his game after?
      5) Everything you’ve just said about Duncan is true. But the shit about Shaq/Kobe and LBJ/Kyrie is just taken out of context. Kobe hated Shaq bc Shaq was fucking lazy. So that’s just a reasonable work dispute if you ask me, of course it’s going to look more dramatic than it is because they’re in LA and everything there is a fucking reality show. With the post champion Cavs, Irving was just a little spoiled brat who happens to be an amazing scorer but once LBJ got him that chip Kyrie thought he could just be the man on some other team like it would be nothing. So I say fuck Kyrie for being spoiled and ditching a championship team and fuck Kevin Durant for joining an already well built championship accomplished team and completing throwing off parody in the NBA. If you really hate LBJ, I can’t imagine how you feel towards KD
      Edit: Also I do find it humorous that an LBJ era Heat was the only team to make the Spurs lose in the finals. It also makes you’re blasphemy of LBJ contradictive because of seeing how high the Tim Duncan led Spurs are in your personal opinion. It must infuriate you lol

    Mully was one of the guys I patterned my game after bc I was not "athletic" either at the college level. My list:
    1) Mark Price- created splitting the double team. 50-40-90 club.
    2) Alex English- scored more points in the 80's than anyone else. Nobody even mentions him!
    3) Mitch Richmond- Jordan's "toughest," matchup.
    4) Chris Webber- Almost identical stats as the other great PF's, no HOF???
    5) Dominique Wilkins- Wasn't even listed in the og top 50 greatest? Shaq and Walton were tho??? Shaq was a rookie and Walton played like 7 total seasons. Both great just not over nique at that point.

    I'll do a lineup for what I think.
    PG- Rod Strickland
    SG- Ray Allen
    SF- Andre Iguodala
    PF- Chris Bosh
    C- Moses Malone
    Some of these guys I can vouch for, and others are they're so underrated they're not that well known.
    Strickland- Good stats, never had a great team, but was like a modern day PG. Combined passing and scoring. Also a godfather to Kyrie.
    Allen- Should've had a finals appearance in 01, and never got a good team in the peak of his prime and made those Seattle teams win probably way more games than they should.
    Iggy- Could do what you asked of him and was a major part in the Warriors dynasty with IQ and defense, and in 2018 vs. the Rockets, everyone forgets he was out and he's a major piece.
    Chris Bosh- Like most, good stats, bad support, changed his game to win in Miami and was balling after LBJ left until blood clots.
    Moses Malone- Absurd numbers yet is never talked about.

      Yeah young Ray Allen was dunking on bodies...his UConn vs IVERSON's Georgetown was a CLASSIC...96 draft, is up there with 1984, and 2003 draft classes...J.kidd,IVERSON, Ray Allen didn't have SHAQ thats the only difference in the early 2000's when they dominated.

      @@etxsports5836 That draft has a squad. And Kobe had his moments even with Shaq. 2000 Finals game 4 comes to mind. But the way I see it, Shaq also never played without a HOF talent majority of years. He always had a top tier talent with him. But hey, it's also luck too. Wolves coulda had Allen and KG from the beginning. 76ers could've drafted Dirk or Pierce to go with AI. J Kidd was on the verge of signing with San Antonio. Just how it goes.

    surely he is one the most underrated player in the NBA and kids nowadays just do not know how good he was. to put it into better concept, he is 6'5 guard had a built of a bull, quick enough to run around most guards, strong enough to run into bigger forwards and even centers, moreover he had one of the best perimeter shooting and 3 points. he was also very tough at the defensive end. playing against Mitch was just like facing a raging bull and a moving concrete wall for 40+ minutes. pity that T. Hardaway, Mullin and Mitch didn't play as long as they should have, or probably a trip to the final at the very least.
