    Time is on my side.. the longer it takes to steal the bike the better chance of it not being stolen. I like a three-prong approach. D lock..chain lock..audible alarm..plus bonus hidden GPS...possibly disc break locks but keep in mind I always carry my battery and seat in with me. In most cases IMHO a thief will steal a bike much easier to grab.. and I know what you're thinking how long will all this take? Basically 2 minutes to lock and 2 minutes to unlock. Not a bad time frame for protecting my $2,000 investment. Oh and did I mention I have an anchor lock in my storage area?

    I like the idea that you can combine two 🔐 locks, this make it more convenient for my sondors mxs since I have a huge battery Box in the middle bike.

    • @EbikeProducts
      @EbikeProducts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That battery box would create a lot less frame areas to lock the ebike up. I imagine you'd have to use the rear wheel and rear fork areas to go around to lock it securely. ALL Fat tire bikes are so wide in that part of the bike the extra length is definitely going to be needed to get around that and a pole. Thanks for commenting!

      I totally agree! When I ride to work, unfortunately I will need to leave it where I can't see it. Thankfully I work in a safe area and I can bring the bike in the building. I also just added an alarm to the bike as well (which I just posted a video for today) so hopefully I should be able to avoid having my ebikes stolen.

      @@dks13827 My local grocery store is safe enough to lock it out in front at the bike rack with the ABUS Bordo 6000 lock, BUT I do take my seat in with me and I have an alarm on the ebike as well. I also rush to do my shopping. I hear some grocery stores will allow you to walk in their stores with your ebike which I am tempted to try to see if I get asked to leave. Kyle from Bolton ebikes did a podcast on how he always walks around the store with his HUGE ebike and uses it like a shopping cart as he fills the side bags with stuff.
      I think an ebike is about as large as a shopping cart and it makes sense that a store would allow you to walk around with it. I plan to ask the store management first to see what their take is on it with that explanation that my bike is very expensive and no larger than one of their shopping carts.

      I saw that video too. Made me realize that nothing is really going to stop a determined and skilled thief so I will have to hope they're not carrying that kind of equipment like nut splitters or portable angle saws with them in my area. Sucks that we have to overload on security and still worry every minute we're away from our bikes.

  • @colinwatkins2950
    @colinwatkins2950 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    you have a good lock there but the problem is, by looking at your bike on video you have a rather expensive suspension seatpost and seat with a hand tight seat clamp, a sure sign you are going to get them stolen.maybe you should put a tool tightened clamp on to protect them from theft.

    • @EbikeProducts
      @EbikeProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, you noticed the dilemma I have. The seat and post cost about $80 and it only takes 2 seconds to steal it. I have a small security cable to be able to lock the seat and post from getting stolen, but sometimes if I am just doing a quick run in somewhere I either take the seat and post with me, or take a chance (depending on where I am) with leaving it unlocked. Thankfully, my area is pretty safe, but its always a risk for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Will the lock holster mount to the 2 factory bottle cage bolts on the 2.0 Step-thru and still be easy enough to get the lock in and out?

    • @EbikeProducts
      @EbikeProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe there should be more than enough room as the clearance is more than the 1.0 version and I currently put my lock there now. I haven't mounted the holder on the 2.0 yet as I have it on another ebike now, but I think it's a great location.

    Any time you evaluate locking devices battery powered angle grinders should be considered. Motivated thieves will own one. I don't have the answer but as a retired design engineer I continue looking for answer.

    • @EbikeProducts
      @EbikeProducts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reminder! I definitely should've mentioned angle grinders and how effective they are at compromising these locks. That being said, I also should've mentioned that overnight locking with these locks wouldn't be a good idea in places with high crime rate or where bike thieves would frequent (like college campuses). I have a bike alarm I will be installing and plan to make a video for it. When I do I will try to remember to mention those things (especially about the angle grinder) and anything else that comes to mind that one should think about regarding ebike security. I appreciate the comment and truly hope you find an answer that will help the ebike community keep their bikes safe!

      Just curious, what did you end up getting? These locks have limited flexibility so frame rub is a concern but I can usually rub any marks out that the rubber coating leaves with my thumb. The fact that it does rub keeps me open to looking for something as convenient and secure. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

    Hi.. how did the locks work for you after 6months of use? I’m planning on getting the same thing for my ebike

    • @EbikeProducts
      @EbikeProducts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really like the locks and use them everyday as I need to keep my bikes locked in my garage. I love the compact size the most, but that small size means shorter a length lock and fat tire ebikes use up a lot of the length when I need to lock 2 ebikes in a small area. The locks also are limited by the joint movement to where it’s not flexible in multiple directions like a chain so sometimes that can be a challenge.
      Even with those complaints, it’s the beat option for me and I’d buy them again. The compact size and the security they provide is worth the extra effort. I hate battling with finding places to hold U-locks and the bulkiness of chains. These things are hassle free a the ride if I don’t want to carry much except a key, cellphone, and wallet.

      Sorry to hear that. If there’s a thief walking around with a portable angle saw that can do it in 3 minutes for both, there are few things that are going to stop him. I hear the huge/heavy kryptonite chain will take longer but even that is still not going to stop a determined thief. Have you heard of any security devices that can stop an angle saw?

      Why can't we simply put the lock thru the spokes of the tire?

    • @EbikeProducts
      @EbikeProducts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could go through the rear wheel and spokes to lock your bike with a Lectric XP and be fairly secure as it would be difficult for a thief to take off the rear wheel quickly and run away with your bike. I wouldn't lock just the front wheel though as it is easier to remove and walk an ebike away rolling on the rear tire. Be sure to know your area. The longer the bike is left alone, the higher the chance of it getting stolen regardless of the type of lock or chain you use. It's sometimes harder to cut through a lock and chain when the frame is secured.
