You could use a share to access or make visible the folders that are used as container volumes... Sometimes it can help, so instead of using the .img file, just change to directory and point to a share or better directly a folder on the cache

Noctua fans are not the end game, Mag-Lev fans are. I run a server with 15+ fans 120mm running at 100% speed.
You can stand next to it with an average of 44 decibels at 10 cm distance.
Combine that with fan speed control and your noise is half that.
The fans have been running for 5+ years at full speed with no issues.
The majority of fans on the market are ball-bearing and require lubrication to function. This makes them noisy with friction, shorter lifespan as the oil will fade. If you've ever had a ticking fan, that's the bearing failing.
Mag-Lev fans don't have this limitation, they use magnetics to suspend the fan in balance, they have no limitations but cost quite a bit more but are we'll worth it

@@matttheis3651 I downgraded. I got tired of tinkering with my NAS boxes. TrueNAS/UnRAID, to me, are for tinkering with. I moved to a Synology RS2423+ about a month ago. I threw 12 drives at it, configured the volume and some shares. Reconfigured my Proxmox hosts for the new NFS storage location. Couple days ago I put 3 60mm Noctua fans in it and upgraded it to 32GB RAM. Sealed it up, slide it in the rack and have not messed it since.

I just got the same chassis and I replaced the included 120x38mm fans with arctic P12 pwm fans, controlled by the motherboard. It’s whisper quiet now, and temps are great with a few SSDs and 5 18tb hard drives. Also, I used some standard fan extension cables, and they fit into the ‘hot swap’ fan connector housings, so you don’t lose any of the original functionality when using different fans

How did you correct your media configuration? I believe I am dealing with the same problem. Media disk1 is full and its not automatically moving files to the disk2. Now it just holds the files on the cache drive and fills that up. Invoking mover does not move the files either. I am having to use unBALANCE to move the files to the second drive. Not sure where this went wrong because it used to work just fine. Surely my config is messed up but cant figure out how to correct it.

What settings did you use for your media share? I am having a similar issue with the first disk in my array. currently sitting at 100% and now my cache disk is almost full. I have the share set to high water with 50GB minimum size, split level set to split top level directory as required. I only have about 15MB free on the first disk in the array, and I for the life of me cant figure out why. FYI its a share of 13 4TB disks with the share set as primary storage(Cache) Secondary Storage (Array). any help would be much appreciated.

Have been looking to upgrade my DS918+ as its getting on and my drives are filling up. Was thinking the smaller version of what you have actually the 12 bay RM22-312 2U. I just setup up Unraid for the first time on my old gaming PC Intel 2700k 16GB Ram and some old drives with known faults just to have a play around and try and get used to it as I know nothing about Linux before I lash out and spend the $ on some new drives and hardware. I'm now pretty sure you have sealed the deal for me with your build video and this one in running a Unraid server and use the old DS 918+ as a backup unit.
I will be using it for Docker Pihole, Plex local/remote connections when I am away & also family photos. Would you suggest ZFS/XFS/Btrfs for my family photos as the safest file system and backup to my DS 918+ which is btrfs in a raid 1 atm.

Is there any distinct advantage/s to actually mapping the appdata folder to mnt/cache and re-installing all of your Dockers vs using mover to move your shared folder to cache only primary storage? The reason I ask is I've just undergone some upgrades on a similar server setup to try and milk a little more performance out of it to host some wordpress instances on top of a similar media server setup.
Went from a single SSD cache doing everything to:
    - 3x1TB SSD Zpool primary cache for appdata, docker and hosting
    - 1x500GB original cache disk moved to it's own cache pool to use for my download folder
    - 1x500GB NVME SSD on unassigned for my Plex appdata
I just used preferences and mover to move my appdata share to the new cache and the same for my download folder to retain all the mapping. If there are still gains to be had by direct mapping docker I'd love to know.

    • @IBRACORP
      @IBRACORP  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

There is yes, and you shouldn't need to reinstall apps as it's the same location. Just be sure to shut them down prior of course.
This goes without saying but it's at your own risk here as we're not sure fully what your setup looks like.

@@IBRACORPif you enable the new "Permit exclusive shares" option in global share settings, it does exactly this by symlinking /mnt/user/'share'/ to /mnt/cache/'share'/
