    I think this is a very helpful video with lots of practical advice for allergy sufferers, so well done! I just need to correct one thing that I don't think is fair to say. There are hypoallergenic cat breeds, but like you said, every individual cat and human is different, so the best way of making sure you buy a cat that won't trigger your allergy is as follows:
    -Look up breeders who specialize in a hypoallergenic breeds and offer allergy sittings.
    -Go to an allergy sitting where you get to meet and play with the specific cats who are the potential parents of your future kitten in their home.
    -If you are fine with them, you have good chances to be fine with their kitten, but make sure you go and meet the kitten before bringing them home.
    I love cats, but I have been allergic to pretty much every single normal domestic cat I have met ever since I was a small child. I will be sneezing, crying, have extremely itchy eyes, and just suffer in general. I have heard of people getting used to their cats like you described, but that never worked for me as it was just so uncomfortable to share a home for me with them.
    But I really wanted a fluffy cat, and went through the process I described above with great success. I have had my Siberian Forest cat for 7 years now, and never had a single allergic symptom to her, even though she is extremely long haired and fluffy. My allergy didn't go away, as I still get the same symptoms with normal domestic cats, but her breed can have drastically lower amounts of FEL1D in their saliva, I think up to a 1000 times yet. I know that the research on it is inconclusive officially, but perhaps they haven't done enough statistically significant research as the breeder I found had plenty of other allergic customers who were able to get her cats without symptoms.
    The main reason I wanted to share this comment wasn't to begrudge you, just because I think it's important to spread the message to other allergy sufferers that they can find breeds that are hypoallergenic, and it's not just a myth. I have just been so happy that I can have a cat without having to suffer, and just feel normal.

    I have always had Siamese cats because their unique coat pattern is due to a form of albinism, and this results in their allergens being much lower than many other breeds. I obtained my first Siamese kitten in the 1970’s, and they are a very special breed. Last year I was a bit tentative adding my two kittens, Jasper and Austen, as I had only lived with single cats in the past…but one year in and we are good with the allergy issue! The “velcro” twins are much more clingy than my old Senior cat Matthew was, and they double up on me much of the time! Luckily with purebred cats we know what to expect! We love sharing Teemo and Arya’s adventures with their butler!❤

      Thank you for sharing that tip! Didn’t know Siamese cats also resulted in less allergens. Always love hearing about your cats. I didn’t know you had allergies too like me. So I was excited to read your comment. Haven’t seen your comment in a while! Wishing the best for your family as always!

      @@TheCatButler Hi there! I recently had a health issue come up resulting in a visit to the hospital and rehab for four weeks, but I am much improved and finally recovering at home with my furry kids! Their “nanny” took excellent care of them, and a neighbor they know really well also supplemented with visits! I have Petkit auto feeder and water fountains, which are awesome! We even did Facetime visits! Jasper and Austen knew I was much sicker than I even realized, and they would not leave me! Their Dachshund baby sister Hildy spent 6 weeks with her Trainer and her pack of Belgian Malinois police and military dogs! Now I get to practice all her commands in addition to Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy! I’ll be looking for more delightful adventures with you and Teemo and Arya!!! Hugs,Michael

    I'm not allergic to cats or dogs. However, I think keeping up with cleaning, brushing your cat, and the hepa filter is a great idea. That way, if you have a family member or friend with allergies it won't be as hard on them when they visit. Gina Hetlage

    The best way to deal with cat allergies is to get Purina live clear dry food and mix it in with your cats wet food. After one month my allergies have completely gone away. I’m surprised that wasn’t shown since it scientifically is proven to reduce the allergens

      hey as I was searching I came upon this cat food that you mentioned but I’m a little worried if it’s unhealthy for the cat. Does it ever affected your cat’s health?

    • @aliflammim5493
      @aliflammim5493 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@rosesarerosie5836 Hey sorry for being late, dry food generally isn't the best for cats. But this particular one is pretty effective with dealing with allergies. By adding egg powder into their food, Purina has an Antibody called IgY that reduces the amount of Fel D1(The main allergen responsible for allergic reactions). IgY has no effect on a cat's health, and there is no noted negative effect on their health as well. You can read the scientific literature if you want more details. Hope it helps ! :D

    Great video. Siamese are not as toxic (to me) as regular shorthairs and other cats I have known! Other breeds that are less toxic (supposedly) are Siberians, Devon Rex, and Russian Blue. Austen and Jasper have caused no reactions in me since they moved in back in March. Having hardwood floors and moving to the dry desert may also be contributing factors. Like you, A and J are my kids and I would work around anything in order to prevent separation from them. PS in our home a closed door is immediately responded to by my duo with cries and wails and grasping paws under the door!!!

    My whole family is allergic to cats. And since I was like 10 years old, we had 3 short-hair cats in total. Every time we got a new cat, we were all sneezing, had runny nose, red eyes, etc. But after around a month or so, all the allergic reactions went away, except for when we got scratched or bitten.
    I then moved out and wasn't around cats for 3 years, until I moved for 4 months into a household with a long-hair cat and didn't get any allergic reaction whatsoever.
    Guess my immune system is chill now with cats haha.

    My son has a close friend with severe cat allergies, and would visit only if he had his medication and his epipen. When we just had Pangur, our Russian blue, and Nuadha, our Russian ragdoll, he never had anything but the occasional mild symptom. He can't visit very often at all now that we have two ragdolls! He knows it be ever got a cat that a Russian would be a good idea. But I know that there are different cat allergies, and some people react to russians, they just tend to effect less people than most breeds. I think it's because Russians don't shed much compared to most breeds.

    • @TheCatButler
      @TheCatButler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Angela that is absolutely correct! The Russian blue doesn’t shed too much compared to the others. Your cats specifically Pangur and Nuadha probably also have low Fel d 1 protein which is the cause of the allergic reaction
