    People with no allergies have no idea what it's like. We're not just whiners, allergies cause horribly unpleasant reactions that makes us feel like shit. Imagine having to focus entirely on your breath to keep breathing under control. Or itching all the time and getting rashes from scratching it. It's terrible. Being at someone's house with a cat when you're allergic can be an extremely painful experience. It sucks because I love cats and really wish I could have one, or two.

      Mod Miscellanea I am allergic to both cats and dogs, but mostly cats. Once, I went to my cousin’s house. She has like 2 cats. I knew I was gonna have a bad allergic reaction but I played with it. I couldn’t handle the cuteness lol. After 20 mins, my whole face had huge bumps that were very ichy. My eyes were very watery too. Later. My whole body had bumps. For a dog, I played with it for 2 hours lol. All i got was watery eyes. Today I went to a pet store Bc my dad was kinda wanting a pet dog. There was so many dogs that shed a shole crap load. Some barely. There was so much pollen in the air so I got a reaction.

    I have a better thing for you. I recently started giving my cats this special Purina liveclear cat food and it reduced the allergen they produce by 50% or more. I also got some special liquid coat thing that helps prevent dander and neutralizes any of the allergen that appears. (The allergen is a specific protein then have in their saliva, which gets all over their body when they clean themselves). Ever since brushing them once a day, and the coat liquid once a week with the Purina liveclear food, I've had zero allergies without using allergy meds.

    I developed a cat allergy when I was around 13. Had a couple cats my whole life. One of my cats was very old at that point, perhaps my body associated something very toxic in his saliva with the protein that causes the allergy. It was very bad for 9 years but it wasn’t so severe that I couldn’t take measures against it. About a year ago I started letting my cat that outlived the two original ones drink water from my cup, then I’d drink the water. I don’t recommend doing this but after doing it just a few times I noticed a lot of difference. The scratches I got from him would still swell and itch a ton but I was no longer having prolonged nasal allergy symptoms for a couple of days after being exposed too much. A few months ago I got a kitten, he’s crazy and has scratched me thousands of times. At some point the scratches just stopped swelling up, and I’ve never gotten an allergy attack from being around him. Maybe if I put my face in his fur it’d be a different story. All I notice now is that when he rubs his face on my face/neck I will get a tingling itchy sensation followed by a bit of redness, just because pores on those parts of my body are sensitive and are absorbing the saliva on his fur. I’m not sure why this kind of skin exposure is causing a reaction but his scratches don’t anymore, all I can say is the human body is inconceivably complex and the same goes for the way our immune systems function.
    So what I’m saying is this is not a final solution but it’s just a bit of proof that if your allergies are bad but not extreme, exposure DOES work, it worked for me just by letting my cat drink from my water and getting scratched countless times; if you can afford it an allergist can systematically expose you to cat allergens so that they will be pretty much non-existent unless your cat sneezes directly into your eyes lol. Cats can live for 16, 20 years or more… you’ll spend more money buying medications, spend more time making sure your hands and fabrics are clean, and spend less time with your cat over all those years than you would if you just invest in immunotherapy

    I can't breathe for about 5 days after being in the same room as a dog for about an hour... Have rashes, swelling, sneezing, itchy too but I don't even care about any of that, with dogs, cats and horses that I know of anyway. It's the not being able to breathe that I can't cope with. I have an inhaler that doesn't do anything at all. Over the top medicine doesn't work. In the UK I've asked my GP repeatedly what can I do only to be told that I should just stay away from animals. I stayed at my friend who has dogs's house once and the dogs weren't even in the house and I couldn't breathe and my attempts at breathing were so loud she took me to a and e once and they said my chest was the worst they'd ever heard in a non-smoker however the only thing they could offer was the inhaler that doesn't work 🙃🙃🙃🙃

      Elle Kaye, you sound exactly like my boyfriend... he is SEVERELY, maybe even deathly allergic to cats, dogs, and almost all furry creatures. Being in a house with a cat or a dog for 15 minutes starts effecting his breathing and up to an hour he can have a severe asthma attack to where his lungs close. It's very depressing and heartbreaking for me since I can't have any animals. I'm the biggest animal lover ever. Allergy shots made him very, very sick.

He doesn’t lick himself so I don’t have to deal with his saliva as I’ve taught him not to like me and he has absolutely no hair (except for a very fine layer of peach fuzz- even finer than that). The first couple of months were a little iffy but now he’s with me at all times and sleeps with me! Just a suggestion as I know the sad life of an animal lover who’s allergic to animals 👍

    Be careful with Flonase!! She mentions this but I really want to clarify that you should not take it for too long. You're only supposed to take it for like two weeks max. It is a steroid as well as an antihistamine so it can lead to osteoporosis in your nose and other cartilage issues if you overuse it. I made the mistake of using it for like two months because I didn't read the instructions and I can definitely tell a difference in my nose shape towards the bridge and a slightly wider tip :(

    • @oceansdeserts4446
      @oceansdeserts4446 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      That is completely not true. Flonase is not an antihistamine and intranasal steroid sprays are intended for people with allergic and non-allergic rhinitis (nasal inflammation) for long-term use unless one only has seasonal allergies and then take it PRN. I've been using various brands since they were Rx only and after 30 years of nightly use, my nose is just fine, not that I feel they help me much anymore due to how many allergies I have now (they used to work well). I've had two sinus surgeries and multiple CT scans since my allergies showed up and do not have bone loss or cartilage issues, nor did the shape of my nose change overnight.

      2nd for caution with Flonase. My poor Mother used it on a daily basis for several years and suffered such a severe , uncontrollable nose bleed she was hospitalized for more than a week. The steroid in Flonase weakens the capillary wall of the inner nostril and makes it more susceptible to rupturing from sneezing or anytime you expel air forcefully from the nose.
      My brother has also tried Flonase only for 2 weeks and he noticed that he was blowing his nose and seeing blood.
      Listen to your Doctor, but just know that there are many, many examples of people having nose bleeds from using Flonase.
      Use it with a lot of caution and paying close attention to signs of bleeding.

    • @cathyann6835
      @cathyann6835 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Another caution for Flonase. It can cause cataracts with long term use. I started to develop them after I used it for a while. My eye doctor told me this because I was young for developing those and we didn’t have a family history of cataracts. Now that I stopped, the cataracts are stable and not getting worse.

    Hi, i know you made this video 2 years ago. I wanna ask, do you have to keep taking the pills in order to keep the allergy away?
    Your video gave me hope. I have a dream of having pet (ideally dogs but id love to have cat too) and i always have some kinda reaction to them even though i lived with my family dogs before. I tend to get a bit of reaction like itchy red eyes sometimes, a bit of itchy rash. So, i would have to keep a bit of distance, washing my hands before touching my face etc. It seems to be worse with puppies for some reasons. I’m guessing cause puppies produce more protein and that puppy was super clingy kinda like a cat lol. I would love to have a cat and a dog of my own eventually and really need to figure out how to get rid of it. Thank you for making this video! ❤️

    First time cat owner here! I am hoping to find anyone with a similar experience or advice! I rescued my cat Maple in October 2021 and didn’t feel any allergy symptoms but I recently started getting itchy skins and eyes in late January 2022. It’s been weeks and I’ve tried Zyrtec and even a oral steroid that was prescribed. I currently do not know if I am allergic to my cat since all I have is a rash that comes and goes when I’m at home and outside my home. I’ve gotten rid of my body wash or anything new I’ve used. Has anyone only ever suffer from itchy skin from owing a cat? I’m currently waiting to get an allergy test done to get more answers hopefully!

    When you had an asthma attack to them, did your lungs feel like they were closing? My boyfriend has a very serious allergy to cats, dogs, and almost all furry creatures and has asthma. It started around 8 when an aunt's dog licked his face and his entire face swelled, lungs started closing... and off to the ER they went. Now he is 32. When he was 28 he tried the shots but they made him extremely sick (flu and cold like symptoms) every time he got an injection... Also, what happens to asthmatics when they get sick? Severe breathing issues! A catch 22. So he couldn't even get to a loading dose but was able to hang on the shots until month 6... getting sick all the time interfered with his work. Guess what? I'm about the biggest animal lover that ever was. It is making me very depressed that I can't have an animal. And no, I'm not breaking up with him and I''m not happy simply visiting a friend that has an animal. I begged him to try the shots again, but this time, trying to eat extremely healthy (maybe it was his diet last time that made his immune system so vulnerable to the shot??) I don't know, but it is something we argue about all the time. It's really depressing and sad. I believe he's tried all the meds you mentioned. Plus, to make matters worse, he can't use flonase because of the steroids. He has borderline glaucoma and steroids are completely contraindicated.

    I was allergic to cats for.. I think since birth. At one point I just wanted to try this method: I adoptet an old, female sterilized cat from a shelter. Old Cats produce less allergenes. You always have a few weeks to see if its working out between you and the animal, so this "Test" was kinda okay for me.

    And dust

    If I wanna pet an animal with fur I have to quickly go wash my hand throughly with soap after,
    If I don’t after some time my nose will become really itchy, then after that my eyes starts to get swollen, and then after that my throat becomes itchy and it becomes hard to breathe

    I was forced to move into this small crummy 2 bedroom apartment with my mom and her bf and i still don’t know til this day why my cat who i’ve had for 2 years before moving in wasn’t brought up in discussion before moving in but he hates cats and my mom doesn’t but since we’ve moved in all of a sudden she doesn’t want my cat either so she told me the only way i could keep him is if he stays in my room and for the past 2 years that’s how it’s been and it’s been rough it’s hard to breathe i usually have one nostril that’s good and the other one is full and i’ll have to turn over in bed because that one nostril starts to burn after a while it’s just rough but looking into this and it’s helped really well i’ve only used the allegra and flonase and they help well the one catch is that flonase sometimes causes nosebleeds (for me anyways) so definitely be on the lookout for that but other than that it’s been good so far thank you so much for the help

    My mom has tried to get me to use Benadryl but it didnt help at all. For the past week ive had itchy eyes, itchy throat, and sneezing. I already have breathing problems due to my nose not being straight so getting a itchy throat and stuffy nose doesnt help.
