I own brand new Stepway 2021 about half a year. Simple pretty good looking cheap car with a small fuel consumptions (LPG). With lithuanian fuel prices, I can drive 100 km for 5 euros! Yes, I am 100 procent safistied of my this purchase! 👍👍👍
Might seem impossible but last year traveled to Paris from Wolverhampton UK on a full tank of gas and petrol and managed 900 miles without filling up .£100 total spend and that was with 4 adults and completely full boot and extras in spare seat. Very impressed
I've owned many cars over the years and have just purchased the new Dacia Jogger in Extreme SE spec. What a car for the money! I was very skeptical about buying a budget brand car as my typical budget is normally £22k-£28k, but with the way car prices and running costs have been and the every increasing energy bills etc I've really been considering my purchase. £30k barely gets you a mid spec hatchback these days, and it's not like our salaries are getting any higher any time soon! But just under £18k for a 7 seater that can return 45mpg is a steal in my opinion. All I can say is go and look at one before you judge them by their badge. I didn't really feel like I was in a budget brand at all when i went to view one. The whole range feels very recent and completely acceptable. I've never had a 1.0 engine before either but this one pulled just as well as my 1.8 hybrid toyota. A brilliant brand that is there for the people, not for shareholders pockets

Agreed. I might buy the hybrid next year as it will have an automatic, but the car itself is extremely impressive, in fact I thought the dashboard, in its elegant simplicity, was far more attractive than most of the messy overwrought interiors expensive cars have. As I said, I won’t drive manual again with the traffic we have. For me the two disappointments are that the cruise control isn’t adaptive, which is ridiculous, and the door mirrors don’t fold in electrically. Perhaps not deal breakers but a disappointment nevertheless. I was told that power folding mirrors have been quietly deleted from, I think, the Captur, because they can’t get the necessary chips!

@@richardsmith579 I thought about waiting for the hybrid too but it's another year away yet and they still reckon there will be a 6-9 month wait once you've ordered as well. I'm set to lose about 15mpg over my Prius however the Jogger costs nearly half as much and its half on insurance as well. So I will very quickly get my money back that way. It's funny you mention having an automatic because of all the heavy traffic. That's the exact reason I have had CVT hybrids the last 7 years. But I rented a car a while back that was manual and I remembered just how much I miss changing gears, I felt so much more connection with the car and I also felt even more aware of my surroundings. It's funny how it works isn't it 😂
Yo as an american I can say this car is so amazing. I hate we dont have these in the states. I got to rent one and drive it for a week while i was in romania. All i can say is wow. i could not believe i was getting 50 miles per gallon. Such high gas mileage here in the states only come from hybrid vehicles. I fell in love with that car. Its just a car and thats its. Nothing fancy just gets you from point A to point B and thats the beautiful thing

LPG consumption is actually very decent, as liquified gas is less energy dense than regular petrol. Every bi-fuel car has worse mpg ratings on LPG.
True, but it's 50% of the price of Petrol. And what is the price? A 10-20% increased consumption per 100 kilometers. Add on that the fact that most LPG tanks are usually larger capacity than the Petrol tank, and it all evens out. The only real issue is that the owner needs to run the car on Petrol first so the engine is nice and warm for the LPG.
Edit.1: Please note that I am talking about the capacity of LPG and Petrol tanks and the LPG and Petrol prices in general.
They also give it 10 more hp if you run it on LPG, then gasoline, so ppl won't complain too much

@@EuEu-re8lv Get a more expensive car if you barely passed your driver's test. This car has good passive safety (Euro NCAP said it would have gotten 4 stars if not for the missing active safety systems). This is a car for people who can drive.
Recently purchased the stepway prestige bi-fuel,well impressed with the cost of filling up-79p per ltr gas can do roughly 235/245 km on full tank.This is our 3rd change of Dacia model and not disappointed.
The Sandero is great any time but especially now, when everything is so expensive. It is so refreshing to find a good, brand new car that we can all afford and get on with our lives and family. Great review and great video as always!

The EuroNCAP stars thing is so confusing they're close to irrelevant. They used to mean "how safe is this car in a crash", now they actually mean a lot of other things too. Meanwhile most people don't really care about those and still think crash safety is the only thing that gives a car those stars.
Imagine lane departure warning, which most people will deactivate anyway, accounting for 30-40% of a crash test????
Yes but at the same time you can go and look to the detailed crash report, and sadly the Dacias don't fare well in the passive crash test either. I say sadly because it's really the only thing that is keeping me from buying one.
Great review.. Am amazed at the look of both cars . Dacia's designer's have done a great job. Both cars look right up to date with more expensive models from the established brands.. Even supporting Apple Carplay and Android Auto. I can see both cars selling well. Am currently looking at the Dacia Jogger.. the sheer space it provides is incredible. Once again thanks for a brilliant Honest review.

I bought the sandero stepway. It's great. Loved the jogger but couldn't wait I needed a car. Very happy. Get the lpg. I did the sums it's cheaper to run than an electric car. It's a great hack in a world of Rip offs.
Had my bi-fuel for 6 months and saving a fortune - most I have paid is 73p a litre which equates to about 80 mpg in terms of what would have to pay for petrol. The other thing people don’t appreciate is that it’s much cleaner - only 2% of the particulates of petrol and 20-30% lower co2. An affordable way to be green! You also get 100 hp vs 90 hp in the petrol only model. The only drawdown is you cannot go in the channel tunnel with it but for me personally I won’t be going in any cross country journeys so not a issue.
A couple of things: the report didn't even mention the low emissions of lpg, which is odd, considering where the world is. The other factor, as has been mentioned in the comments, is the current shortage of lpg in the UK.

I ordered my Dacia Sandero (Comfort) in early December. At the time I wasn't sure about the LPG but I went for it as I can buy a space saver tyre. I am really looking forward to getting it. When I've told people I have ordered one I braced for the "You bought a what?" only to hear some very positive noises. Jaws drop when we talk about the LPG side of things. Even a guy who works for a major car manufacturer who has a top of the range electric car was impressed.
Trust me, it's a great wee car, i drove 12k miles this year and it drives just fine on lpg
But you can hardly buy LPG anywhere at all and less and less petrol stations are selling it?
Drove the 2021 Duster bi fuel and tested LPG
Found significant increase in consumption with what is now expensive and scarce LPG, however with a lot of effort, managed 50+mpg on petrol :)
Found the car to be of good quality and similar to Renault at a lower price - I enjoyed driving it :)
Would like to try a stepway or Duster EV with 300 mile range and 100+kw charge...for way under £20k :)

My understanding from a motorhome owner is that LPG is disappearing from forecourts, prices rising significantly too. A number of motorhomers are giving up on LPG.
Motor homes are a niche market. Now there is a manufacturer that is producing these cars I have a feeling garages won't want to miss out
@@rob12841 Unfortunately that is absolutely not the case. Only Dacia are producing an LPG car. There is no money in service stations selling LPG and most have stopped or are stopping by next year.
Yeh, disappearing artificially because it's the cheapest hydrocarbon fuel after natural gas. They saw people started buying into diesels a while back for the economy, so they made it more expensive than gas, even though it takes much less work to produce it than gas.
Great video! Even with the difference being so small, I'd opt for the Stepway, solely because it looks more fun.
Of course, the other reason to go for the Stepway, is because it has an extra trim level over the standard Sandero. Thats why I went for it.
I have the 2020 Bi Fuel Stepway. Pre facelift. It is the same engine as a Clio. The bi fuel is okay and it is still cheaper to run lpg. It is now near me 83 p per litre. I am hoping that prices will decrease if a peace deal in Ukraine happens. The Stepway is fine. The engine is a TCe 999 cc and it is 101 bhp. Has a little turbo booster. The Dacia build quality is fine. Reliability is fine so far as I have owned it for 8 months. With the lpg version your tyre spare is the lpg tank. So you may want to get a spare get you home tyre.
I pay 88p a litre and we are down to only one outlet for miles around.I just got back from Turkey and the price is about 50p a litre with loads of outlets. I am not convinced about LPG in the UK and I think it will fizzle out.
@@johnmcconville6055 LPG will be around for a bit longer until electric and other power sources come on line in a big way. I think you have motor homes and similar who use a lot of lpg plus the places that sell it have a large catchment area and folk will travel to get some LPG. As long as my local Morrisons sell it I'm good. I think filling with the adaptor can be fiddly but that said it is still a lot cheaper. Eventually it'll fizzle out in the UK in mainland Europe people love it.
I have tried both the dacia sandero and dacia sandero stepaway. The sandero stepaway version has somehow more comfortable & better observation seat position when it comes to driving
My mum bought 1 in 2013 .Stepway laureate. Extras. Full leather, sat nav.rear electric windows parking sensors. £11.000.Ride quality was its biggest problem. Lg sat nav screen falt after 3 years.But very reliable ,
.not even an engine light.Easy to clean all plastic inside.

orders ramping up. Great value cars at affordable prices! I've just ordered a bi fuel prestige duster as I've luckily a morrisons and a bp close by with lpg. Just hope they don't get carried away and get more expensive like skoda.
Yeah morrisons usually have an LPG pump in the north and parts of the midlands at least. Did you get the 10 quid a month servicing then? The only bother is the wait for months to get one though you can sometimes get one thats in stock elsewhere if you pester the dealers. Tip with the pumps...tilt the top of the pump out, don't try to pull it out by the handle heh.
Well the politicians are forcing them to add more and more “unnecessary” safety features, and it drives the price up. I ordered my Sandero here in Spain December 2020, today the price is up by 12-13% and they have even downgraded on features.
@@andrewhoult I initially phoned up about 3 they had on a forecourt but none of them was bi fuel and they tried selling me the 1.3. Normally I'd take it an possibly the auto but bi fuel just makes so much sense right now. Two days later they rang about a prestige in orange and bi fuel on the way arriving this month early may. Yes I got the service plan for £10 a month for three years. I had over 3.5 equity in my px too so for under £200 I've got a prestige bi fuel, paint protection floor mats, mud flaps, boot liner and something about alloy and tyre protection and servicing for 3 years.

@@Tom-sg4iv I do like the look of the new sandero in blue. Reminds me of the 2017 ibiza I had in blue a bit. I'd have one if I didn't have the need for space. I'm waiting to order the jogger bi fuel with an auto box but a duster will do for now.
Funny you say about prices, dacia in Tonbridge Wells have a demo but they've priced it at 19k and only available end of month once test drivers have ragged it. I did mention that surely being a demo with miles it shouldn't be over the rrp off the website, but the ignorance of supply and demand as the answer left me with a sour taste in my mouth
@@rob12841 Yeah the Jogger will be fine, but you are gonna have to be patient. I have just seen they are shutting down production in Romania for a while due to lack of parts. Bosch in Ukraine delivers essential parts for the Sandero/Logan/Jogger

Don't worry once our government see people buying LPG cars they will do the same as they did for diesel and put the price up to bring it into line. I have just returned from the Philippines with diesel still cheaper than petrol (equivalent to 50 pence a litre)
Alright, I need to point out that Dacia is affordable and not cheap. What I am trying to say is that Dacia's cars are well-designed and have had effort and attention put into them. They are genuinely nice places to be in. Cheap cars are only designed to have a low price and nothing else.

And it is getting less and less affordable. I don't understand what is happening with the brand, but it is not such a good offering around where I live.
Skoda Kamiq with 1.0 TSI 95 bhp engine cost just 2k euro more then the Sandero Stepway Expression, but has a lot more extras and safety features.
I have been driving Dacias for years and like the brand and their quality for the price(before), but they are not on the table for me anymore.
I've owned one for four months. Commute 110 km a day. Five days a week. Plus weekend trips. And I fill my lpg tank once a week for €25. It's awesome, got all the mod cons you need. Even tells you when your tyres need air. Android auto is great. Roof racks swivel to cross position for carrying crap. Big boot. Great clearance I go over rough terrain on weekends. Best car I've owned. Can't say much about reliability yet only four months in. Just wish Dacia would do a pickup. Anyone got a good tip on a no nonsense pickup? Tks

If you use solely LPG but keep some unleaded in the tank, then over time, the ethanol content will absorb moisture, the moisture will then seperate and water will sit in the bottom of the unleaded tank. I don't know how bad that's going to be, particularly if you try to run the unleaded tank until it's empty.
New EuroNCAP ratings are deceiving. When I look at a safety rating I want to know, if I'm going to survive a car crash, not how good a car is at preventing a crash. Although preventing a crash is good, it is the driver's responsibility first, and there are instances on the road, where it is impossible to prevent a crash.
Wish Dacia would have bi-fuel automatic models. I like the idea of LPG even though the list of retailers selling it is shrinking rapidly but i do not want to go back to a manual transmission. I do like Dacia's honestly with LPG, on their website they admit the MPG takes a 25% hit using LPG over petrol while other sites claim it is only 15-20% loss. Well done Dacia.

According to the sign at my local Morrisons damage to their equipment caused by using adaptors, i'm reliably informed some or all Sainsbury sites have similar arrangements re adaptors.
C’mon, isn’t What Car supposed to be the ‘consumers’ champion’ ? Shell & Calor have closed down 2000+ Autogas outlets, few outlets are upgrading their pumps and there’s a woeful lack of support for the fuel from UK Government. Nice fuel but, Doug, you’ve could have mentioned it’s “a shame you can’t get”…..
lpg is less polluting. your gov should mandate it . in eastern europe its all over. all the Taxi drivers use lpg. also, there are some private lpg distributers. can you ask also shell to take a second look over their decision to close the lpg pumps? I think it depends on the number of cars in your country that that have lpg...

Exactly. LPG is becoming almost impossible to get. This vid is so wrong to casually say that LPG is great - total lie - where was their research? Soon no filling stations will have it.

The LPG filler point is the continental one, you need to use an adaptor (presumably supplied) to make the connection to UK filling points, the problem here is that some supermarket filling stations have banned adaptors so filling with LPG could be an issue.
Also, i haven't been able to fill up with LPG for roughly 3 weeks now, if you check on the LPG app almost the whole country has no lpg at the moment even Flogas sites with LPG pumps appear to have none and its anyone guess when supplies will resume, this could lead further stations to removing the facility altogether using supply shortage as an excuse.
Not trying to put any potential buyers off, i've been using LPG for many years and will continue to do so when i can get it, just keep these things in mind if tempted by the excellent value LPG option if buying a new Dacia.

You said 174mm higher at 44seconds in to the video? it is 174mm approx. ground clearance in total I think. 36mm higher than Sandero. Thumbs up nevertheless.

174mm loaded and 200 mm unloaded.
Duster has like 205-210mm clearence.

Hi......just to let you know a lot of filling station`s are ripping there lpg pump`s out........it never did catch on, i use to have a lpg car and found the lpg site`s where drying up, pitty it was a good system
Your comment is needed here, because there seems to be such ignorance about the availability of LPG in the UK. It is being phased out and hardly any stations sell it now.

I have the Sandero Stepway CVT petrol, 3 months now and all I can say is what a car! Before you judge it go for a test drive first and then you'll see how it will surprise you.
What is the average fuel consumption for the Stepway CVT, please? Would like an automatic but concerned over the consumption and reliability. Thanks.
@@funnyfiveminutes 5.8-6.5 lit per 100 kilometres average in the city. 10 months now with the CVT and I have nothing bad to say.

Long waiting for stepaway prestige since October 2021 , really frustrating.
I have order the Dacia Sandero comfort bi fuel what a car for the money wow, looks just like the new VW polo and that is so much more expensive
The problem though is with availability - in UK you need to really look for LPG and then I guess it's the same with servicing it. Not to mention people are scared of bi-fuel cars and to sell it you actually have to lower the price compared to petrol-only cars, which is absolutely idiotic. Price of LPG can also differ a lot from one place to another. Meanwhile in countries like Poland it seems half of the cars on the street have LPG installation and almost every petrol station has LPG too.
Which is really a shame, because driving on LPG is literally paying just 60% of what you'd pay for petrol.
4 or 5 stations with LPG near me in Shropshire, so I have ordered the LPG version 👍🏻👍🏻
Lpg is great. People complaining about lpg are only brokies with second hand cars that forgot to eat only to put petrol in yheir cars.

LPG cars still available in 2024 in uk ?
I have now 2019 Dacia Sandero 1,0 L without turbo petrol and average is 6,3 l/100km and Higway 5,6 but here I got mixed and average 5,3 L /100km.= economy is 16,67 % better here.
Good luck trying to find a forecourt that sells LPG... Think of it as an odd detour in Automotive development that never took off - Only Dacia sell these bi-fuel models and there is virtually no point in the UK such is the rarity of the fuel. All - in the 2 years since this video, the Stepway is now £15,200 - somewhat more expensive than the £12,700 in this video. On the subject of detours - there's something very attractive about this guy. I have no idea what it is is but he is.
Makes you wonder why other manufacturers are not supplying LPG fuelled cars.
I just wonder where does the spare tire of the non-stepway version go if the gas tank is there. Can someone enlighten me?
As with all new cars, you just get a puncture kit, the spare wheel is an optional extra. We just keep it in the boot of our bi fuel ,it takes up a bit of room but I rather sacrifice a little space an have the option of changing the wheel than messing around with a puncture kit. Hope this helps
@@petehudson595 our 2010 Nissan Qashqai +2 had a giant Bose speaker instead of a spare wheel. This wasn't as useful as a LPG tank.

LP gas should be used primarily as a cooking fuel, not burned in cars.
Worth pointing out that the bi-fuel gets 10 more horsies on lpg than on gas. And while fuel mileage is a bit worse for lpg, this is the cleanest burning hydrocarbon fuel.
Petrol stations selling lpg are rarer than hens teeth
I wonder what the durability of these sandero will be like. As Toyota and Honda will usually last more than 200k with regular minimal maintainance
Renault engines are at their best right now. Many taxis are Dacia in Romania, a large majority of which have upwards of 400.000 km on them just with normal maintenance. About 20% are upwards of 600k.

Looks like Dacia have deleted the Bi-fuel option, at least in the UK. I hope this is a temporary supply problem, glad I ordered mine before this happened.

The thing he leaves off here is the benefits to the environment of driving on LPG. He'd be the first to mention environmental credentials of electrics and hybrids.

From what I've seen the LPG model had some problems, with the LPG system LandriRenzo being poor quality (pressure sensors failure, gas evap system failures even for new cars). to top it off the LPG system requires pretty expensive additional maintenance - about 290 euro/year more than the petrol. I don't know if Dacia will change the LPG system but at the moment in Romania people preffer to get the petrol version then buy a better quality aftermarket LPG system like Tomasetto Stag which doesn't have problems and it's just 20 euro/year maintenance cost
I bought the LPG model last June (Timisoara). Use nearly only LPG, 0 problems so far and if you buy on finance you get 5 year warranty and servicing included anyway.
I've just sold my EV due to the price of electric and the poor UK infrastructure, plus the new craze of rapid charger cables being stolen. EV TH-camr RSymons has recently done a video costing up the new and future rates of electric which shows little cost savings in pence per mile Vs hybrids unless you fit solar panels with battery storage. I pick up my Sandero bi fuel LPG tomorrow as I have numerous filling stations/suppliers local to me and beyond.
Numerous LPG filling stations - wow, where? I would like to buy the bi fuel Sandero, but there are no filling stations near me.

Yeah, wait times for all the dacia range are ages, you can sometimes get cancelled orders though if you keep pestering the dealers or pressure them to make it a condition of sale, some of them make the effort. Dacia do show new in stock on the website mind and autotrader ofc.

I have owned the bi fuel version since october and while I like it for the most part, that 52.3mpg mentioned in this vid is utter bullocks, I generally get about 30 and my gf (driving mostly on the motorway) gets about 34 so I have no idea where that number came from but it's not from real life usage
Dacia enables consumer choice. Within 'choice', budget leads looks, standards, performance, running costs and safety. Personally, safety of family and myself comes first. We can control how we drive, we can't control how others drive! Take on-board point on physical crash result vs driver safety assistant devices now effecting test results. . Common sense says avoidance is always better. It is why i remain avoiding Darcia or for that matter, any manufacturer or product that scores low. I can get another vehicle, I can't get another family.
Driver assistant devices aren't going to stop someone hitting you. They are designed for poor drivers. If these cars did not offer decent levels of safety they would not be allowed on the road.
No real greater risk in a Dacia than any other modern car.

Lane keep assist should be made illegal. worse than useless in my experience, at least in VAG group applications.
Lpg is now 99 p / litre and filling stations are few and far between. Shell is shutting them hand over fist.

I rented a new Škoda Fabio for 8 weeks. I prefer the Sandero, even if they had been the same price.
An E85 (ethanol) model would make a lot more sense.
Depends on your market. There's very few E85 stations in the UK. Auto Gas is bad enough but there are some and I'm lucky to have one down the road from me!
@@markfinlay422 true, but here in France we have 2740 E85 fuel stations and it costs about 0.74€ per liter. It's made in France from Sustainable ressources with no Russian dependencies.
Every time I see a reviewer complaining about UK bumpy road I see perfectly fine roads. Is it because I am italian and I have a different concept of bumpy road or bumpy road are really common in UK but are not showed on reviews?

@@masterbowler1630 no, veneto, but they built a street were you should go at 90 km/h with under hospital waster so it often have holes, even deep. Rome is on a league on its own.
