Hey Pop. More ELR Shooters use aluminum Chassis ir Manner carbon fiber stocks.
You have wooden or laminate stocks that have Aluminum Pilar blocks.
As for bedding stocks..My F Class stocks needed Re-Bedded TWICE a year.
It shrinks'draws up.I don't care if you Devcon with Titanium particles or something else.

I am currently in Mexico, on the vacation that my wife wanted. And it's great... The food is amazing and it's not terribly expensive if you pay attention. But it's not the vacation that I'd have chosen for myself, I don't love "touristy" stuff. it's for her.
But a gunsmithing education vacation, that exactly what I want, guns are how I spend my free time and extra money. Hands on learning is how I want to spend my next vacation. I am in 100%. I would love to support you in this endeavor. Though we just blew our grub steak and PTO on Mexico. The next vacation is definitely going to be spent at QMM

I love Bartlein barrels! Now on another subject, bench rest shooters do not have to carry their rifles, they shoot from a bench so they don't care if their rifles weight 20+ lbs! Carbon barrels area great choice for hunters hunting in the mountains, steep canyons etc. they want a light weight gun. Rifle Chasis are very popular with people shooting in the NRL Hunter Matches. On another note, I think you should be wearing your guest shirt LOL 😅

Couldn’t agree more with you on carbon fiber barrels, definitely just a fad

I have many chassis.....with a good chamber job and good ammo all shoot .3s......you cant get a zero zero zero fit, otherwise you could not get the lug to sit in the chassis...you have to have room to put the stock in....most smiths put a piece of tape on the lug prior to bedding...for PRS the ability to move weight to balance the gun and run accessories has far more to do with chassis than stocks....and if you want you can bed a chassis....the other issue he does not address is that once you shoot the barrel out, the next barrel is NOT the exact same fit, so you would have to re bed the action...I shoot through 3 barrels a year...I am not going to rebel a rifle three time a year.....I would love to hear what he would build to shoot PRS....what stock would you suggest....Drama Queen...there is more to shooting than bench rest shooting...you wont drive a truck in an Indy 500 race...again I would love to hear what he recommends for PRS setup....

I agree on the carbon barrels. But I bought a barely used Stiller Tac 30 with a Brux barrel and Shilen trigger already mounted, I mounted it in a $450 XLR chassis, mounted the scope and was ready for the range in about an hour. It shoots in the .2s after a little load development and has one of those big JP recoil eliminator brakes on it. I guess I'm just lucky. But I do admit it doesn't look nearly as nice as wooden stock.

I live in Italy and i would be really glad to get out of the boring gunstore counter to come to your shop. Even if it is a dying trend I do really hope you will find good apprentices

I think some of the chassis on the market serve a good purpose with their external features that aren’t offered on almost all traditional style stocks. They have their place in specific styles of shooting, namely PRS. However I really wish that the chassis manufacturers would offer a gunsmith chassis that is specifically inletted for being bedded.
I really want to bed an NRL 22 chassis that I have. However, after ruining one with an at home attempt I’ve been soured on the endeavor and there is no traditional stock that fits my specific needs. (Also scared me away for bedding the scope rail)
Also I think chassis is just silly branding. It’s a stock made out of metal.. that’s it. A silly name doesn’t change what it’s supposed to do. Heck the same thing could be done with other stock materials like fiberglass or carbon fiber, but none of the stocks I have seen offer the specific options I want.
But you can’t deny that metal stocks are here to stay. Heck Olympic smallbore rifles have had aluminum stock options for decades now. David Tubb has been doing aluminum stocked rifles for a long time now too. Benchrest rail guns are basically metal stocks too… just stocks that are supposed to interface with a bench rather than a person.
Personally, I’m excited for the day that manufacturing techniques can make a custom action that incorporates everything but the barrel integrally. I’m talking stock, action, and scope rings all in to one piece. Get rid of as many screws as possible.

Borden BRLXD is 1.470" diameter versus the 1.350" diameter, but he would need to run a McMillan or Custom Wood Laminate stock
