I have this and the Technivorm KBG741. Not sure which I prefer but both are great when I don't have time to do a manual brew. I keep the Ottomatic in my office and the Technivorm in my home office. Would recommend.
I love watching all of your videos, so much that id argue they are a huge part of why I buy *way too much stuff* from you guys, and always refer my friends. Over the years what I have purchased from SCG: Sylvia, preciso, vario, rocket cellini, behmor roaster, two saeco incanto deluxe as gifts, one saeco odea as a gift, many odds and ends, and a rocket R58. Hell of a list huh? and that Behmor (despite actually being pretty bad when it comes to flavors) is a large part of why I decided to start my own coffee roasting business and purchase a commercial roaster. Let me know when you want to open a NYC store, I will gladly consult and also ask you to carry my coffee of course :)
You can also use the Chemex with a much cheaper Bonavita 1900 and the Bonavita will bloom the coffee better. BTW, instead of spending $50 on the Chemex, just buy any cheaper pour over beakers on Amazon, use with Bonavita 1900 and Chemex filter. Much much much better.
What was I thinking? I spent $80 for a Ninja basic drip, when I could have had the Chemex pour-over experience, but with a machine that does the pouring so I don't have to, all for a mere $350. Guess I'm just not coffee-snob material.

I absolutely adore the look of this product! What a great idea. Wish it wasn't so pricey. I just viewed a YT video on the Bonavita BV1900TS that also lets you use your Chemex. If anyone familiar with the Bonavita? What are your thoughts. PS. Price point is much lower.
the faucet thing is metal?? mine's plastic =| also, after brewing, my water tank will have much vapor stuck to the sides, that will stay all day. did that not happen to yours? Feels like I got a broken Ottomatic, lol >:@
+adamgreen222 ,+LookBackTime. Thumbs up for the video. Thumbs down for the price of the product. I saw this at the SCG store and after seeing the price, I started looking for buttons, displays, etc... there had to be programming, adjustable temperature, configurable pour patterns, etc... features. After not finding anything, I asked a salesperson and learned that there aren't any features. If you already have a Chemex and are looking for something to just pour hot water for you, I would recommend the Bonavita brewer. Still expensive ($170), but half the price of the Ottomatic, it's SCAA-approved and it has auto shut-off.
+adamgreen222 give me a mortar and pestle and some beans and I'll give you coffee around a camp fire as everyone huddled under leaves. LOL.....I'm in technology as well. Sometimes it's good to keep things simple but just techie enough to get the job done. This machine is priced high but then again, so are great quality Chemex carafes. On a different note, I know some fountain pens that go for hundreds of dollars....A F'in fountain pen. How archaic of a device is that for a few hundred bucks. It's a relatively speaking.
+adamgreen222 my case in point....you are the one who labeled this machine the value you perceive it at. I might see it as well worth the price tag because maybe the internals are of the highest quality (which I have no idea if they are but assuming so because Chemex is fairly high quality glass). I can also understand and appreciate the value of a Rolex completely disregarding the so called valueless elitism built into the pricing. I can do this because I know the watch actually builds value over time. Some people enjoy high quality high priced simple products because maybe the color was to their liking....not necessarily elitism. With that said...This looks like it would make for a really interesting review....m.crateandbarrel.com/kitchenaid-pour-over-coffee-brewer/s463519
it looks like a machine that is dripping water automatically I think doing it by yourself will give better flavour because of the way you pour the water I think you can use any type of tool not only Chemex v60 kalita ....
I don't know..... I suppose this works well for people who want pour over coffee for a crowd but it's not really "pour over" to me. It looks like a drip brewer using a Chemex carafe. It loses the finesse that's involved with the goose-neck kettle, which is all part of the experience. And from my own experience with my Chemex, watching the actual pour over in action is what seems to fascinate dinner guests. Just my thoughts. :)
Yeah, that's what I thought. And the Mr. Coffee will let you drink mid-brew...LOL I had hoped for at least some kind of swirling water head that mimics a slow hand pour with maybe even a 30 second Bloom feature. Nope... And having the 8 oz tank with a 6 oz carafe. What were you thinking guys? I do like the 'keep warm' function, but that can be had much much cheaper. FAIL.
I am not so sure that this "machine", is for me. I prefer my 8 cup Behmor Brazen which is much cheaper in cost, and offers precise temperature control. I have found that depending on where the coffee was grown will determine the temperature of which the coffee is brewed. My Behmor will allow me to do this.
It's interesting that you say it's "one of the best looking coffee makers", when I find that it's actually perfectly hideous and clashes with the simple elegance of the Chemex itself. Not one of the materials or shapes makes any reference to, or attempts to complement the Chemex. It looks like a Windows laptop from 2002 with all its pointless curves and angles.
Gail - thank you! Great review and love your energy!
Ready to buy!

+TD E Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the nice video! This is sort of manual brew sacrilege though, right?

+Ron G Thanks for being such an awesome fan! Woohoo! :D
Hi, great review :)
I was curious what's the average time for a full brew (40oz)?
Thanks
Hey Gail, where is the machine made? Another great review! Cheers!
Much much much better.
very great video what a likable host wow so thorough thx
On the minus side this Ottomatic can not do mid brew cups, which Chemex can do that ?

Gail, if you don't need half and half in that coffee, then you have me sold. :)
+lake boarder :D hehe Cheers!

NO HALF AND HALF!!! -_- something is not right. lol. Great review! I LOVE MY CHEMEX!!!!
+Thomas V-P :D
Solid review but how can you not tell us the brew time? One of the most crucial data points...want to know as its a buy / no buy decision
How long it take for the brewing?
+OSAMA Z About 5 minutes, but this can be adjusted based on grind size : D
+Seattle Coffee Gear
I meant the time that the device finish pouring?
Does the hot plate have a low, medium, high setting like some other brewers? Also how does the hot plate + lid work for heat retention?
+adamgreen222 Correct! Only on and off. It keeps the coffee nice and warm!
seems like a drip machine with a chemex pot to me
+Jonah Ullman agreed. kinda defeats the purpose.
the faucet thing is metal?? mine's plastic =|

350 bucks to pour hot water into the 8 cup Chemex! that's progress :)

I do oo ooo love my chemex thanks to you!!
+Candy Rayne Woohoo!
Does this machine allow for bloom, before it start brewing?
+adamgreen222 cool, thanks!
+adamgreen222 I think she forgot to mention that it comes with a Chemex glass cover for the carafe
+Jonathan Arnold She mentioned the lid.
***** :)
it looks like a machine that is dripping water automatically I think doing it by yourself will give better flavour because of the way you pour the water I think you can use any type of tool not only Chemex v60 kalita ....
Let's see a compare between the Otto and the Technivorm :)
+Kay Gladys You got it!

So it's a $350 Mr. Coffee.
shhhh... don't tell corporate
+freonr2 Yea, I have to agree. For $40 you can get an 8 cup Chemex.
Yeah, that's what I thought. And the Mr. Coffee will let you drink mid-brew...LOL I had hoped for at least some kind of swirling water head that mimics a slow hand pour with maybe even a 30 second Bloom feature. Nope... Hi SCG! Would you all do a review of the Miele CM6310? Thank you!!!
+Jason W. Dean Coming soon!
Thank you!! Trying to decide on a super auto machine, and that one is a contender...
back to 90s :) !!
Does this get the "JOE" stamp of approval....LOL
Does the water determine the amount of cups.....
Thanks Gail..:)
+1timby Yes- this brews all the water in the tank. So add the amount you wish to brew, and the appropriate amount of coffee and get brewing! :D
Great review but I wanted to watch the water pour.
+Gary Strader That is one of the best features of the Behmor- one that really sets it apart! Thanks for watching!
Seattle Coffee Gear
Thank you! You have been great to supply me with great service for my Behmor, and I love your videos.
Great review #coffeetime
+Orrin Belcher Thanks for watching :D
Oxo Barista Brain and Bonavita 1900 are cheaper ;)
It does look nice. But since I love to do the pouring myself. Its part of my Chemex coffee ritual. So this is not for me. Nice review.
+Ivar Karels Totally can appreciate the ritual! Cheers! Thanks for watching :D
It doesn’t look like it goes through a bloom pause
Nice brewer! But if it is a 8 cup brewer, why does it comes with a 6 cup carafe?? Makes no sense!
+ArcticDreamers Rapture We were a little confused ourselves!
To make you buy an 8 cup carafe!
Aah, such a good idea.. but so poorly executed. They could at least let people thinker with the temp and flow rate of the water :/
A con you forgot is that it costs $300+
Would you rather they cheap out and put a shitty boiler in it like a $20 generic piece of crap from walmart?
