Scotty* apologies auto correct. Thank you for everything best vehicle I ever bought. I really dislike the new crap, plus my friends say my truck handles better on roads than their new cars.
Scotty my coworker had his 2013 Mazda3 1.3l Skyactiv automatic transmission panel bottom rust out while driving around work. Limped in a few miles, local mechanic put a new bottom on. A month or so later the bottom of his oil pan also rusted out (mechanic warned him that would be next). Once again a few miles with no oil, and a ton of spilled when he filled it up in the parking lot only for it to come right out the hole. So far it has been about a month or so and he does 80 miles or so a day mostly highway. The car is still going strong.

@Fee Fee 1. Most reliable brand in the US (Consumer Reports) for using GDI and TGDI 4 cylinders 2. Beautiful interior and exterior design 3. Satisfying driving dynamics with a 6-speed in-house transmission. Mazda has shaken off their Ford image and are thriving with their partnership with Toyota, fulfilling their path to become a premium brand. Go drive one, and report back to me.
Very few people actually “needs” all wheel drive. When I lived in Denver I learned that snow tires on a two wheel drive car did far better than an awd without. We first experienced this when my wife’s Subaru Forester spun in a circle three times while we tried to make u-turn which caused us to laugh our asses off because there wasn’t anything we could do except wait. If you “need” awd get a 4x4.
I’m starting to Question whether Subaru is worth it. The mechanical aspects of the car need work. They’re Not that easy to work on! Many Unintuitive things that should Not be there. I’m Not impressed. And the AWD restricts tire sizes, and options. My tires are Always wearing unevenly.
Well said. I live in the NY Metro burbs and completely agree with you. Here everyone thinks they need an AWD vehicle some years we get hardly any snow, some a little heavier snowfall. I have found a good set of stud-less dedicated winter or all weather tires will get you through nearly any snow conditions. The only issue is if it is a heavy snowfall and the roads were not plowed yet or the plow truck left some high spots on the road while turning etc. in a standard sedan ground clearance or lack thereof can be an issue.
Yes you're right tires make a huge difference. But awd with winter tires will always beat a front wheel drive with winter tires. I do lots of snowboarding, rock climbing, cross country skiing, etc where the terrain isn't the most friendly and I've driven fwd with winter tires and had the car slip on me. But yea I really agree for sure most people actually don't even need suv's yet they still buy them.
depends on whether you had an older one or a newer one. The slightly older ones are not made too hot (rust issues, automatic trans issues), the newer ones are much better made
I hit 227,000 k on my Mazda 3 sedan base manual transmission, till it blew a head gasket. Mazda is great, I just wouldn’t buy their older automatics too many issues but the manuals are made so much better and last a lot longer. The new Mazda are super reliable and nice to drive.
I think Toyota needs to be careful. Yes, they make very high quality, super reliable vehicles but at least in Canada, dealers are starting to treat customers poorly and the service departments often seem to do inconsistent quality work. Never good to depend on your past reputation
Friend of mine had a toyota corolla, and has a toyota sienna, decided to buy a hybrid so they went to toyota and got treated like absolute garbage so they ended up buying a hyundai instead
I looked at a 2021 Tundra. It had less warranty than other trucks and the dealer acted like they would be doing me a favor, by getting me one. I didn't buy it
Bought a 21 Toyota Venza limited coming from a Kia. Toyota service, worse than Kia. Dealer won’t respond to calls as I offered to sell the vehicle back to them. The car has a 14.5 gallon tank but only tales 11 gallons when on empty. It drives fine for a appliance, just watch that mileage and gas gauge. Buyers remorse: yes. Toyota overrated: definitely.
@@ivandoneshefsky4762 - What do you mean by "on empty?" The gauge reads empty? My 1999 Camry 2.2 still has 10 litres in the tank when the gauge shows empty. Your difference is 3.5 US gallons = 13.25 litres which seems reasonable.
I had a rust issue with my 2019 Tacoma. I called Toyota corporate office and they basically gave me a 2021. Just bypass the dealer or service department if they don't take care of your vehie's issue
I had a Mazda 3 MT 5 speed manual, I had it at 150k bought it used, it finally started to die around 227k head gasket blew, oil was burning too much, but it still started every time never left me stranded EVER! I got a new car instead of fixing it and sold it to teenage to drive to school and back, I love my 2014 Kia Soul MT, I always get manuals they always last me a long time! bought a 2012 mazda 3 with mt back in april. it had 97k on it. i expect (and hope) it'll run another 100k easy, and not only was this one in great shape, but i've heard of lots of people hitting 200-300k without much trouble. they're great little cars and a blast to drive. did a stupid amount of research before i settled on it. definitely recommend them. the only downside i've noticed so far is that the cabin air filter is a pita to switch out lol
@Whatever the miata is an impractical car. Sure its "sporty". Great, but what else is it good for? It's a pimp's car. 2015 mazda 3 s grand touring 2.5L, 160,000 miles, still drives like new. Only had to replace the alternator. The transmission and engine is still perfect. Suspension showing signs of wear but ride is still smooth. So I plan to replace shocks and struts soon.
Holy Crap!! My 2014 Mazda 3 iGT barely has 56k miles LOL. Partly because I've been working from home since the pandemic but even before that my commute to work was only 9 miles. You must drive a ton to get that mileage in just a few years. I already knew these cars were bulletproof so it doesn't surprise me yours is running strong. The Skyactiv NA engines and transmissions are solid.
@@Argedis exactly, why I tell all my friends to NOT get a turbo mazda but either NA option is excellent. The 2.5L is plenty powerful enough for me and I expect to get the most out of this engine.
You're missing the point. There are two aspects to a car, the mechanical and the comfort. If the mechanics are still decent and the AC and similar still work, the car can't be all that bad.

Anything made by mazda will never be better than the greatest car of all time. A scotty kilmer owned 1994 Toyota Celica. Good afternoon scotty. Miss ya in Texas!
I have a 2003 Mazda 6 Luxury Sports hatch with the Ford 4F27E 4-speed auto - it's still going strong at 250k (kms). Just don't thrash them, change the oil, and they last very well.
I got a 2012 Mazda 5 with 220k miles on the body- new engine and transmission with 45k miles on them. replaced windshield, tires, struts, shock absorbers, motor mount, new valve cover gasket, sparks, oil change, and fixed the main problem (chewed transmission wire to vehicle speed sensor) - I paid 800$, and put 600+ into it myself.. LOVE THIS CAR. Mazda really opened my eyes to what happens when you take care of your vehicle
Amazing vehicles.. especially if you get the Grand Touring Reserve Turbo, or Signature 2.3 Turbo 279hp.. handles like a dream. AWD. Every toy you can imagine and much more fun to drive then any other reliable small SUV..
@@chicoandthem4n So, the regular engine is around 175hp.. and entry level AWD is roughly 32k.. The turbo & transmission have exceptional warranties for 5years/60k. I believe the turbo is covered for 75k miles.. and my old Mazda MX-6 Turbo(s) I owned 3 different vehicles (same model) Never had one issue with any of the turbo housing, cooling.. I think Mazda is fully owned by Toyota. These vehicles are built better then any German 40k dollar SUV's. I never once had a single issue with any of my Mazda 4cyl TURBO engines or turbocharged units. The car gets another 109hp.. which makes the car a great deal of fun to drive. Feels like you are driving a Sports car. Handling, reliability and resale are great. Also every CX-5 is made in Japan, not US, Mexico or Canada. Mazda won SUV of the year for 2020. Its very much worth the extra $27/$30 month extra. If you go for the CX-5 Sport AwD or front wheel drive, you can get a lease. 1000 down, 249/mo for 3yrs/36k. Also price is 5700 cheaper. For basic CX-5.. they are all made, manufactured in Japan 100%.. if you don't mind 175hp.. go with CX-5 Sport. You will get a spectacular deal and they are a great deal of fun to drive and the reliability is top tier quality
Same engine as the mazdaspeed 3. Beware the vvt cam gear failing and the timing chain stretching. You’ll hear the chain rattling on the valve cover on cold start up. They like to drink oil too so check level regularly. Also the turbo seals go out and you’ll get smokey exhaust.
today I bought a 1998 Saturn SL… Five speed… No rust obviously… Runs like a top… 98,000 on the ticker!… Paid 2000 with a smile on my face… Did I get a good deal???
Got rid of my ‘19 Tacoma due to its.. exhaustive issues. Everything from electrical to squeals and squeaks.. It was a mess. I bought it brand new and it didn’t even last me 2 years before I couldn’t take it anymore.
Bought four"high end"tires for my Jeep. One tire was damaged and they replaced it with a "similar" tire. Funny during the original sale they told me how important it was for all tires to be the same, now after the sale apparently that doesn't matter.
I purchased and drove a Mazda 626 for about a year before deciding the darn thing was just plain dangerous. The size of the tires weren't sufficient for the weight, causing it to slip and slide with the least provocation. Never before or since driven a car that squirrelly.
That face you show at min 4:37 is an actor, (I don't know his name), who played Bobby Fischer, (who beat chess dominant Russia by himself at chess in 1972, a true story of the superior individual), in one of my favorite movies, "Pawn Sacrifice".
Very interesting to see this car. My Aunty had this exact car and they hated it, didn’t have the 4WD and it still guzzled gas, and the turbo was always going wrong on it. Sure the non turbo ones would be a lot better.
I still have a 2011 CX-7 2.3 turbo which I drive daily and it's been pretty much trouble free. Not a single rattle. Quality interior. Your aunt must have been unlucky to get a lemon.
Yeah and the 09 cx7 once it gets up in miles 175k it’s gonna have engine issues. Turbo can go or like what we had which was a head gasket starting to go. But that was at 190k and change.
Much appreciated for this review Scotty. I've been waiting so long for you to check out the CX-7 2.3L DISI Turbo. What a great review and I'm gonna get one for my own!
If you can find a well kept 2.3 turbo 2WD model of the CX-7, I can highly recommend you grab it. If you do regular oil change etc. and don't drag race it, it will last you a good many years.
I had the last generation 929. Probably the finest, most beautiful car I've owned. The only car my wife ever cried over when we traded it in on our first SUV. That car was perfect, except for the trunk space. But Lord what a wonderful car! Nothing ever broke on it. Got over 120,000 trouble free miles on it. Smooth in every way. Yes, I still miss that thing.
@Fee Fee it was the last year of the 929. The only car I ever owned that for as long as I owned it (3.5 years) people gushed over how beautiful it was. Even the color was trick! It was called Black Forest. Had a distinct green in it that looked like nothing else when the light reflected on it in daylight. Very curvaceous shape. Even the door panels and dash seemed carved. Light tan leather, and really fine carpeting.
I know someone who had an 07 cx7 the biggest well one of them especially with the turbo cx7 if anyone decides to buy one make sure to change the ac compressor if it hasn't been changed already I'm not sure how common the problem was on the 08 and 09 models but the 07 models definitely had problems with the ac compressor locking up so just something to keep in mind when considering one of these cars
Excellent video Scotty as usual. Times are really changing fast. Ever heard of a ODBLink MX+, it’s around $140 and does everything the XTool does if you pair it with your windows laptop and Forscan (1-year license is $12, yes that’s 😱$12). Better yet this Bluetooth scan tool pairs with IOS, Windows and even Android. So I planning on upgrading to an Android T’Eyes CC3 2K head unit so I can display engine telemetry on demand. Other available options on the CC3 head unit aren’t even available on most 2023 model cars without a serious premium. The MX+ also works with Versatune tuning software for Ford/Mazda vehicles if you want to hop up your vehicle.
I’ve got a 2010 CX-7. Bought it new and have had it for 14 years. 165,000 miles. Very few issues. I’ve had to replace a couple window motors, and a relay for the A/C system went bad. Other than that it’s just been fluid changes, brakes and tires. Great little SUV.
Thank you for showing us what kind of camera you are using to film with for your channel because I'm thinking about getting a new camera. The camera I have now is a Sony it's a good camera but it's old technology and I get a lot of wind noise through mic it's got a Built-in mic, I can't put a external mic on it. OH! by the way please make sure that you clean the lens on your camera before filming LOL.
I traded away a 10 year old Mazda3 hatchback for a cpo Mazda CX-7 GT awd, thinking I needed a CUV because my wife was expecting. It sure was peppy and sporty, but the fuel economy was lousy. I got 13 mpg combined, 17 mpg on the highway, and I'm not an aggressive driver. I only got the EPA's 23 mpg if I drove at 50 mph. Following my wife's miscarriage, she gave me the blessing to trade it away for a 2015 Mustang GT. In early 2021, I traded the Mustang following my wife's Ovarian cancer/tumor, for her comfort. As she recovers, she's giving me the blessing to get another sports coupe, say a Supra.
I have a Japan built 2021 Mazda 3 Turbo hatchback and love it. (For several States those are Made in Mexico and heard that they are not as good as those MIJ)
Me and my folks test drove a 2021 Cx-5 and a CX-9, we also test drove a Toyota Rav4 and my dad thought the Mazda had more of a mechanical feeling to the steering, 1 was a base model and the others were the front line with all the bells and whistles, my dad prefered the toyota in SUV's but to me i think Mazda has really gotten better in many ways

If Mazda's place is to be the new Scion, that's a good thing.
Nope, Mazda's aiming to be *the* premium Japanese brand, targeting market share from entry-level BMWs, Audis, and Lexuses.
If Mazda wants to be Scion, they have to really market the hell of the brand with free swag. I know I've got a lot of the Scion stuff in my closet.
Lol why ? Scion was fine when Toyota made them
@Fee Fee 1. Most reliable brand in the US (Consumer Reports) for using GDI and TGDI 4 cylinders
2. Beautiful interior and exterior design
3. Satisfying driving dynamics with a 6-speed in-house transmission.
Mazda has shaken off their Ford image and are thriving with their partnership with Toyota, fulfilling their path to become a premium brand. Go drive one, and report back to me.
@Fee Fee even Audi themselves admitted Mazda is a legit competitor, the old Mazda-Ford days are long gone.
Honestly I had all seasons on a 99 Cadillac in Montana and never had any problems. That was just FWD!
Michigan here, and my 2wd sienna does EXCELLENT in snow.
We've owned both a Mazda3 and a Mazda6. They both were great cars, Its about the only late model car I'd buy these days.
Bought a Mazda3 in the beginning of this year. Love the zoom zooms!
I own a 2015 Mazda. It's been a good car. 128k and still running strong
Now I have Scotty's blessing to buy a Mazda! Thank you, Scotty!

Apparently they are discontinuing the Mazda 6 for a new rearwheel drive model with standard v6 engine.

Scotty is finally starting to see the light. Took him long enough.
i’ve bought mine last month (used ) and it’s a beast on gas 10/10 recommended
I’m unsure about that. As former Mazda owner, I can attest to you that it didn’t last long as Toyota or Honda. I hit 120k and it was over in mazda.
depends on whether you had an older one or a newer one. The slightly older ones are not made too hot (rust issues, automatic trans issues), the newer ones are much better made
@@Slenderman63323 especially the newer ones where Toyota has oversight over Mazda
Just recently bought a 2016 CX-5. Very happy with it.
"It's still got zoom zoom!" Haha
I had a Mazda 3 MT 5 speed manual, I had it at 150k bought it used, it finally started to die around 227k head gasket blew, oil was burning too much, but it still started every time never left me stranded EVER! I got a new car instead of fixing it and sold it to teenage to drive to school and back, I love my 2014 Kia Soul MT, I always get manuals they always last me a long time! But I know for sure my next car will be a Mazda, they’re good in my book!
What engine did you have in your Mazda 3
Base model 2.0 I believe
Be sure it’s made in Japan, mine was and I believe that’s why it ran forever
Coworker's 2013 Mazda3 1.3l Skyactiv automatic had the transmission panel bottom rust out while driving around work.
They did not sell many cx-7 that's why it was discontinued, but mine has 155k miles and it runs great
They sold plenty then upgraded it to the CX9
@@jonwoodworker Wrong, the best year only sold 44k cars, then they discontinued it for the CX-5

I have a 2019 Mazda CX-5 AWD. Best vehicle I have ever owned. And I have been driving 50+ years.
I bought 2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Mica Red with 43.000 miles on it for 23.000. Love that car. More luxurious even over 50.000 $ SUV. Very comfortable ride, quiet and great handling.

The person asking about the upside-down "Socket" was talking about your electric outlet probably.
Yep I think so
That's the way they should be installed.
@@mastrtonberry2 makes sense, the ground plug on top in case something slips and falls between the plug and the socket, makes it less likely to hit a hot wire
True. There is no electric code for the orientation of a wall socket though. Even tho the preferred method is ground plug down lol

Some people should just repaint their cars and maybe do some re-upholstering. It's much cheaper than buying a new car.
For me its usually when mechanical issues start coming up and the car isn't worth the cost of the work but you're right for some people cosmetics do matter more
No, they should buy (finance) new. Boosts economy, keeps people broke so they have to work and contribute till 80 3 jobs, and your favorite park will have a quiet corner for you in the midst of a day. Lol.

And that's why I'm going with a Mazda3 hatchback. It has 186HP, and no CVT.
