WfM homely lacks many things that makes a Gundam, a Gundam. 1. It doesn’t have an actual big War, only small conflicts. 2. It has no real big mobile armor fight (a mobile armor that can destroy a town/city). 3. The masked figure (the mom) doesn’t fight the protagonist in a mobile suit fight. 4. The story ends in an unsatisfying way. All the antagonists are redeemed, and no one faces any consequences, and somehow it all just ends in a happy ending. 5. The main character doesn’t develop much (but that’s not a new thing in Gundam), Sulleta remains the same throughout the series, and the only change she goes through is go from a good girl who listens to her mom to a girl who disobeys her mom. Also her love story with Miorine barely develops, and we barely see them spend time together. They just feel together for the sake of the plot. 6. No world-building (we don’t even see Mercury) 7. Rushed story with so many unexplained stuff. And the ending eliminated any possibility for a sequel.
I think the purpose of G-Witch was to capture new audiences rather than pandering to the existing one. Sunrise gaming the moe meta and winning big, the show seems to be really popular with people who never watched Gundam before. I'm not as angry at its existence, it has its own timeline where it can exist without ruining anything else in the franchise (though I will reserve judgement on whether it's really that bad for after the second season), unlike Disney SW or Kurtzman Trek. Ironically, the HG gunpla line for G-Witch is probably the best one yet in terms of quality.
@Blue Spaceman op isn't wrong here G witch was made to capture a younger audience while hoping older fans watch it simply because it's gundam. Unfortunately I don't think it did well with younger audiences and may have put off older fans who don't care much about the high school settings .

Yep I do like Witch of mercury, true there are tons of bad stuff going on the show but the only thing that keep interesting is gundam battles well few lovable character. Sad 😢, potencial wasted… still I love the art, music and gundam design.

I'm a Gundam Wing enjoyer, but this series ruined the concept of Gundam for me. I wanted a military drama, not a lesbian Yuri story. If I wanted that I would go play Honkai Impact 3rd. The main character is just not appealing and it sidelines the action for more character drama. There were a bunch of weird scenes in GWing but it was still really entertaining.

We don’t know everything but it’s there. Suletta’s whole thing is about finding herself and making friends at her school and pushing forward against challenging odds. That’s her whole thing this season and what her fights are about. All of her friends are dealing with personal issues that relate to their families .Suletta and her mom,Mirione and her father, Guelle and his father,Elan and his mother who he misses, Saddiq and his adopted father, Chuchu and her family on earth. All of the children are learning to step out on their own and go beyond their parents.These things she wants to focus on in school are her goals but the issues with the companies and their intrigue in the background are directly linked to the school and characters through their families.Your forgetting that the companies in the backgrounds and the houses their kids are in are linked. The companies use the houses and kids for political and economic battles in ways they can’t directly. Stuff like the marriage, Guel losing and it’s affect on the company’s image, Elan showing off the secrets of the Arial and that being used to make a deal and take down the arial. Even the stuff with the company is linked to the school as the point of the school is for them to develop these skills engineering, fighting, and doing buisness. And they spend most of the season at the school except for the last few episodes .
A lot of your point is straight up wrong and bad A plot point that isn't straight up rubbed onto your face doesn't mean it isn't happening. The main plot point was pretty much the same with 0079, where the protag is dropped into an unfamiliar world and is learning to become what people expect them to be. But the best thing about it was instead of being expected to be a hero like Amuro, Sulleta is pretty much being gaslit into a stone cold killer. And all the other plot point that you said did not happen, is evidently happening in the background. Lady Prospera's revenge plot don't have to be her ANGRILY RUNNING AT DELLING AND SHANK HIM, it started with manipulating his daughter into breaking his own law and reintroduce Gundam, and further her own connection to him. And idk why you said the corporate politic is not happening, every duel was based on one of the corp interest. Also you literally contradict yourself when first saying there were no character development, and then later complain about how Miorine has a change in personality to be less of an asshole. Isn't that literally character development? Also about the toxic relationship, you understand it so wrong I almost feel like it's intentional. The whole arc leading up to it is about Sulleta thinking that she's not reliable enough so Miorine can't trust her on doing things, in fact, it came from Miorine giving her less chores so she can focus more on GUND-ARM inc. Miorine telling Sulleta to do her chores is not LITERALLY because she want Suletta to do her chores, it's all about Miorine trusting Sulleta enough to basically rely on her to do anything and everything for her. Also the point of Gundam being ban leading to no Anti Gundam should be developed is just stupid. Imagine, in real world, do you just tell people to stop developing nuclear defense systems because nuclear weapon is banned? Obviously not, since if people already have bad intention, they will disregard the law. Evidently, the terrorist in the later episode has Gundam, why is it so hard for you to assume or even consider that they know/expect there to still be more Gundam own by private organization?

I don’t dislike this series nor do I like it, I’m indifferent to it. The high school type story is not my thing, the mecha designs are cool but I have way to many other kits from UC that I want, rather than a g witch kit. But I do think it’s great that gundam can grab new fans and maybe those new fans will check out UC or other gundam shows & movies.
I'm an old UC lover. But I like GWitch. If you're searching for a theme, it's about the angst of childhood. Most if not all the characters have some tension towards a father figure or an absentee father. There's a recurring theme of tension between parent and child. Even the "nurturing" themes of tomato farming, and the treatment of mobile suits as part of the family. Every mobile suit in the show bears a family name. Yeah, it's a tight script. It's not a Build series, and it's not UC. It's it's own thing and it speaks to anyone who's had, at some point, tension with parents or angst towards parental expectations. Its a bit mean spirited when you say people who love it have "Terrible Taste". It's a slow burn but I'm honestly more committed to it than IBO. Maybe in my old age I've started to be more introspective. That's probably why I loved Hathaway. Side note: I won't be surprised if the anti-gundam Cathedra Accords were a corporate con job to get funding to build weapons for profit.
I personally enjoyed it. And my girlfriend had more fun with it than with any gundam we watched. The good: The mech designs. Cute girl designs. The soundtrack and sound design. The top-notch vibrant animation. The clone subplot, the good prolouge, and the dark ending. The bad: The op and ed not (up for personal taste) , the lack of world building, the lackluster school setting and the lazy dueling system, the tired fake relationship trope, the emasculate designs for the male characters. And the lack of a clear motive and end goal for the main characters.
Kind of shocked by the comment section. You make really good points. That comparison between the first 13 episodes of GWitch and other Gundam shows was great. The amount of development Amuro gets in such a short span of time in 0079 is insane. It says a lot that the 13th episode of that show is remembered for the huge emotional gut punch, and the 13th episode of GWitch is remembered for nothing but shock value. People may be adament about defending GWitch right now, but I doubt it will be remembered very well.

I watched most Gundam show except Gundam X and Victory. I must say G-Witch is one of the best so far, up there with War in the Pocket. A lot of Gundams show has weak casts that I don't care when they are killed, like random Tekkadan children or mauve shirts from Zeta and original Gundam; or one note villains who don't have anything interesting going on besides they are willing to commit atrocities. G-Witch managed to sells its characters for me, where I actively worried that some of them might die, and actually felt sad when a tragedy actually happen to them (Guel), or actively don't want horrible thing happened to one of its greyer character (Nika). I don't agree that G-Witch suck or not for Gundam fans, maybe you mean not for people that immediately call anything with queer element as 'queerbait' and unable to judge anything pass that.
How far has Suletta and Miorine's relationship gone though? Not far, and it seems it always gets stalled by the plot. That is intentional. It is entirely possible that relationship won't actually go anywhere in season 2, hence why its called queerbait, and let me be clear, I like G witch but I am very aware of its faults, but as the way this season ended, it leaves a lot to be desired, it's impossible to deny the glacial pacing with low payoff and stakes or that the drama and tone of the prologue is almost entirely ignored. The show has a lot of intrigue and it would be exciting to see more of that resolved, but with only another 13 episodes thats a lot of ground to make up for. My personal big griep with the series is Suletta herself, she has been shown to be a very static character, things happen around her but things don't change her and she only changes things as the plot allows. She has never lost a duel and barely encountered any strife that could change her character, maybe season 2 will fix that but again we're hinging so much on it actually doing that but we don't know if it even will. This is coming from someone who was very disappointed with Digimon Ghost Game, the ending was absolutely atrocious and will probably go down as one of the worst endings to an anime ever. Anime in general has a problem with resolving plot threads and making an ending. G Witch is showing a lot of signs it's going the same direction (albeit with fewer episodes) with a lot of threads that go nowhere and a hamfisted ending with no payoff. I'll wait and see, but I'm not holding my breath.
@@ORLY911 Imo, the whiplash between Episode 0 and most of season 1 works because it gives a false sense of security. And it gives a huge payoff when the last two episodes of season 1 finally hits. I wouldn't go to debate about the only valid queer relationship is when they actually launch or not. Suletta's development is hugely tied with the plot though, which means how she handle to the situation around her will be integral to the story, unlike say, Mikazuki who keep being the same kind of guy (and the entirety of Tekkadan that isn't Olga) for 50 episodes. I know nothing about Digimon. But multiple plot threads being set up and being clumsily paid off in Season 2/second half is a fault that often we encounter in most Gundam shows (Graham in OO season 2, Taiwaz stuff in IBO, Nina stuff in Stardust Memory.) It isn't a fault that makes G Witch is less Gundam than the others. I wouldn't call it perfect (none of Gundam shows are), but I do think it's good compared to many shows we have in the franchise that rehash the same condescended 0079-Zeta-CCA conflict again and again.

Having the first 10 episodes mostly slice of life was a good decision for me. You start to care about the characters and suddenly ep 12 hits you in the face. I don't have to mention that p2 continues the pain. Besides that GWitch has such good directing. Especially the episode where the company was created. And it is kinda cringe to say one of the worst when only the first part is out which was mostly buildup for the 2nd part.

How can the story be broken if it hasn't been fully told? Starting off a critique like that makes it pretty clear to me that you're not really sure exactly what you're doing. Not to mention that you're actively berating people in the video for having different opinions than you? If you want to talk about music, perhaps you should learn something about music first! You don't even make any points about why the opening is bad, you just say it is! Obviously, you don't have to like the series, but if you're gonna make a 20 minute video about why you dislike something so much, I'd at least have hope you had some actual points to make.
I do think that the second season needs to do a hell of a lot more to explain what's going on. What is a permet score? Why is Suletta so unique? What happened with Ericht and is Suletta her or a clone? What's up with the Aerial? A little explanation goes a long way. I'm hopeful for the second season and hope it's not all pointless like the first. You're right that the plot hasn't even been uncovered yet. Although I didn't dislike it as much as you did, the mecha fights and music really helped. We'll see what happens.
I don't think you need to inform dump what Permet Score is when you see the effects on screen on what it does and the consequences. Besides, the Prologue was already enough.

5 episodes into the series and a bit disappointed so far. Going from the gritty and violent Iron Blooded Orphans to school life with stakes such as 'don't get expelled' and 'make friends' is very jarring. Would have dropped it if not for the gorgeous visuals.

I missed the high quality production of the Unicorn series. I particularly missed the retrofitted old MS's making reappearances in Unicorn series. I missed the realistic elements in the show.
it's not UC so there's that, and not like all things were "realistic" In unicorn, especially the end fight with the neo zeong with the whole psycho resonance and time travel shenanigans, so really, don't expect those things to be the same in an entirely new timeline
I almost quit at I believe episode 8? as the entire episode was about the gundarm gang talking about random business stuff and nothing else. It's something that could've been handled as a 5 minute montage but they made it a WHOLE EPISODE. I was baffled at just how utterly mundane and pointless that episode was.
We really need to stick to Universal Century timeline I hate trying to push people into Gundam and they get lost in series like this Aerial looks great and animation was awesome story was so dumb
I don't think the series is terrible but i do have a lot of problems with it, and they could all get resolved in S2, but my cynicism comes from how anime is produced nowadays, it is very common for anime and manga to end poorly and never address plot threads. Suletta herself and the worldbuilding are the worst problems for me. Suletta is a very static protagonist whose only interesting thanks to the mystery of who she really is. As you said, the show barely addresses any of the conflicts happening and is very pushed to the side, and it doesnt truly take advantage of the corporate controlled space angle.
Gundam typically runs for 40 to 53 episodes.. I think you glossed over a good bit to state your opinion. It's not a bad opinion though. We as the viewers see the world as the Mc does. She as the innocent sheltered type that steps of on her own for the first time, full of hopes and dreams giving her preconceived expectations of the world while knowing next to nothing about the world outside. An accidental fiance used as a plot device to get the story started and give her a point aside from naive mercury hick. The political nature of that engagement slowly revealing that the company's that make and enforce the laws they themselves don't follow. A attempt at a merger that is refused, a political move that forces them to start a company. Corpo fiance going to hard with the business side brings problems for the Mc causing her to become lost and manipulated. Corporate espionage blowing further holes in their front as they establish that they are also working on gundam tech and that earth has gundams too. The rug pull is slower than normal, it's not just a random finding a gundam in the middle of a system wide conflict and constantly reacting to being thrust into that conflict. Theres media manipulation, corporate corruption, backroom deals, relationship troubles and growth. A slow shattering of the innocent youth and sheltered mindset revealing a childhood of careful manipulation and conditioning by a mother set on revenge. A political engagement misunderstood by one and used by the other developing into an actual relationship as they learn to depend on each other and express how they feel. The former top students fall from glory and growing through hardship. This world doesn't revolve around the Mc and her friends but are being pushed into the world and it's ugly underside. A coming of age in sorts as they become enveloped in gundam plot armor. Even 00 doesn't escape this as the first 13 ep sets the stage for what is to come. Sure the execution was better but it's always easier when the purpose and setting is more clear cut .
i loved it more than I thought I would tbh. I understand the route they took with gwitch, and I'm all for it so more and new people will watch gundam, that way we can enjoy more and better gundam content (hopefully) and better kits which I think is the case with the Gwitch line. I dont mind change as long as it would be for the better in the long run.

I haven't watched it long enough to criticize the overall plot or character growth. I dropped it around ep5 or 6(?) due to the vast inconsistencies within its own established universe, which removed any and all stakes and make everything unpredictable, thus turning me apathetic to any of its events. Among many other things, the fact that the school has SUCH a big importance to the largest Corpos out there, but almost every test/trial was easily manipulated (mostly by students, not even professional secret forces the corpos would gladly pay for) made me scratch my head - it was so commonplace why would they even hold a pretence that there are "exams" at all? If at every point you can sabotage it in so many ways (even maintnance standards & security is up to students, SO many ways to completely sabotage everyone right there) and everyone would (and did, but realistically would do so even more) considering the stakes. I'm hyperfocused on that because aside from group rivalries there was nothing else to the show. School doesn't matter. Earth/colonies don't matter. Corpos are a backdrop for hormonal teenagers to duel for marriage/etc. The romance felt like a marketing hook, although the prologue Ep was a better hook anyway.

While I do enjoyed Witch from Mercury, your analysis did address some interesting shortcomings and weakness to the story itself that prevented it from reaching perfection. Yeah a homie asked me to recommend a gundam series to watch to told him to watch TWFM and he dropped it by episode 4 then I recommend IBO and he loved that one and then he watched OO and loved that one even more. I'm kinda in the same boat I don't think I'll re-watch TWFM like other series considering I just got zeta on blu ray and chars counter attack

this one came across to me as a poorly written fan fic. it has echoes of western style story writing. it's as if they were handed a check list of things to put in the show and they did only that. similar to how hollywood makes movies and shows now a days. i don't have high hopes for a good second season, considering the red flags i saw in the first season. it's mid at best. your assessment is pretty much the same as mine.
This show was boring from start to finish. The worst part is I started thinking it was going to be bad just cus of the cutesy art style and setting from the original trailer, then when i watched the prologue it gave me hopes of a fast paced knife edge show where stakes are high. Then episode one came out and we just chucked all the hope in the trash, it turned out i was right from the start.
You can tell how media literate someone is by whether or not they liked GWitch S1. you have very little. S1 is what we call a slow burn. The plot was very, *very* clearly being set up as characters are established for growth in future episodes and pressure from smaller events build up. Yes nothing is definitively answered, but thats called building intrigue. There's a lot of mystery in these *only twelve episodes* but the writers intent to unravel them is extremely clear and lastly, its not queerbaiting if the writers already confirmed that there will be queer elements in the story

Something like The Lighthouse is more of a slow burn, where you can instantly figure out that the characters just went insane but it's the payoff to that that it makes you wait for. I can't really comment on the quality of the show because I do feel like it's not targeted towards me or gundam fans in general. When I watched it was a massive disappointment after I just came off of watching all of gundam thunderbolt December sky and thunder bolt bandit flower.
It was hard for me. I don't like harem or romance series and this is trying to bring in that audience (tsundere ugh). I do love the design and combat, but the slow corporate war brings back memories of the slow droll story from gundam wing (yes it was watch it again). The ending of the season had the action jump up and a proper War kick off. I have higher hopes for the second season, but the romance hitch is not for me. I suffer for my mecha
This show feels like another Victory Gundam. That show was about selling models. G Witch feels like it is made for non-Gundam fans and those that have never even seen a mecha anime of any kind. Thank you for speaking some truth in a sea of rose colored glasses perspectives.
Its so nice to see more western gundam fans with standards be honest about g-witch. I agree with the majority of this video. Didn't agree with the opening take though, I think it has a good song which is unfortunately attached to this awful show. But overall I'm glad to see more westerners point out how disappointing and mishandled this show feels. With so many good gundam shows that came before g-witch there really is no excuse for it to be as bad as it is. Great video, well done!

I really wanted to like G-Witch, but good lord is it not letting me! I love the mecha designs and world-setting, but the show does absolutely NOTHING with said mecha and setting! Also Suletta is very much like Rey from the Star Wars "sequels" in that she is very much a Mary Sue! There was no setup for her piloting the Aerial, hell Suletta ain't even the same girl as Eri from the Prologue!

WfM homely lacks many things that makes a Gundam, a Gundam.
1. It doesn’t have an actual big War, only small conflicts.
2. It has no real big mobile armor fight (a mobile armor that can destroy a town/city).
3. The masked figure (the mom) doesn’t fight the protagonist in a mobile suit fight.
4. The story ends in an unsatisfying way. All the antagonists are redeemed, and no one faces any consequences, and somehow it all just ends in a happy ending.
5. The main character doesn’t develop much (but that’s not a new thing in Gundam), Sulleta remains the same throughout the series, and the only change she goes through is go from a good girl who listens to her mom to a girl who disobeys her mom. Also her love story with Miorine barely develops, and we barely see them spend time together. They just feel together for the sake of the plot.
6. No world-building (we don’t even see Mercury)
7. Rushed story with so many unexplained stuff. And the ending eliminated any possibility for a sequel.
I think the purpose of G-Witch was to capture new audiences rather than pandering to the existing one. Sunrise gaming the moe meta and winning big, the show seems to be really popular with people who never watched Gundam before.
I'm not as angry at its existence, it has its own timeline where it can exist without ruining anything else in the franchise (though I will reserve judgement on whether it's really that bad for after the second season), unlike Disney SW or Kurtzman Trek.
Ironically, the HG gunpla line for G-Witch is probably the best one yet in terms of quality.
I've been watching Gundam since the early 2000s and still enjoy this series, so that is a false premise.

I'm a Gundam Wing enjoyer, but this series ruined the concept of Gundam for me. I wanted a military drama, not a lesbian Yuri story. If I wanted that I would go play Honkai Impact 3rd. The main character is just not appealing and it sidelines the action for more character drama. There were a bunch of weird scenes in GWing but it was still really entertaining.

That’s her whole thing this season and what her fights are about. All of her friends are dealing with personal issues that relate to their families .Suletta and her mom,Mirione and her father, Guelle and his father,Elan and his mother who he misses, Saddiq and his adopted father, Chuchu and her family on earth. All of the children are learning to step out on their own and go beyond their parents.These things she wants to focus on in school are her goals but the issues with the companies and their intrigue in the background are directly linked to the school and characters through their families.Your forgetting that the companies in the backgrounds and the houses their kids are in are linked. The companies use the houses and kids for political and economic battles in ways they can’t directly. Stuff like the marriage, Guel losing and it’s affect on the company’s image, Elan showing off the secrets of the Arial and that being used to make a deal and take down the arial. Even the stuff with the company is linked to the school as the point of the school is for them to develop these skills engineering, fighting, and doing buisness. And they spend most of the season at the school except for the last few episodes .

A plot point that isn't straight up rubbed onto your face doesn't mean it isn't happening. The main plot point was pretty much the same with 0079, where the protag is dropped into an unfamiliar world and is learning to become what people expect them to be. But the best thing about it was instead of being expected to be a hero like Amuro, Sulleta is pretty much being gaslit into a stone cold killer. And all the other plot point that you said did not happen, is evidently happening in the background. Lady Prospera's revenge plot don't have to be her ANGRILY RUNNING AT DELLING AND SHANK HIM, it started with manipulating his daughter into breaking his own law and reintroduce Gundam, and further her own connection to him. And idk why you said the corporate politic is not happening, every duel was based on one of the corp interest.

The whole arc leading up to it is about Sulleta thinking that she's not reliable enough so Miorine can't trust her on doing things, in fact, it came from Miorine giving her less chores so she can focus more on GUND-ARM inc. Miorine telling Sulleta to do her chores is not LITERALLY because she want Suletta to do her chores, it's all about Miorine trusting Sulleta enough to basically rely on her to do anything and everything for her.
Also the point of Gundam being ban leading to no Anti Gundam should be developed is just stupid. I don’t dislike this series nor do I like it, I’m indifferent to it. The high school type story is not my thing, the mecha designs are cool but I have way to many other kits from UC that I want, rather than a g witch kit. But I do think it’s great that gundam can grab new fans and maybe those new fans will check out UC or other gundam shows & movies.

If you're searching for a theme, it's about the angst of childhood. Most if not all the characters have some tension towards a father figure or an absentee father.
There's a recurring theme of tension between parent and child. Even the "nurturing" themes of tomato farming, and the treatment of mobile suits as part of the family.
Every mobile suit in the show bears a family name.
Yeah, it's a tight script. It's not a Build series, and it's not UC. It's it's own thing and it speaks to anyone who's had, at some point, tension with parents or angst towards parental expectations.
Its a bit mean spirited when you say people who love it have "Terrible Taste".
It's a slow burn but I'm honestly more committed to it than IBO. Maybe in my old age I've started to be more introspective. That's probably why I loved Hathaway.

I personally enjoyed it. And my girlfriend had more fun with it than with any gundam we watched. The good: The mech designs. Cute girl designs. The soundtrack and sound design. The top-notch vibrant animation. The clone subplot, the good prolouge, and the dark ending.
The bad: The op and ed not (up for personal taste) , the lack of world building, the lackluster school setting and the lazy dueling system, the tired fake relationship trope, the emasculate designs for the male characters. And the lack of a clear motive and end goal for the main characters.
Kind of shocked by the comment section. You make really good points. That comparison between the first 13 episodes of GWitch and other Gundam shows was great. The amount of development Amuro gets in such a short span of time in 0079 is insane. It says a lot that the 13th episode of that show is remembered for the huge emotional gut punch, and the 13th episode of GWitch is remembered for nothing but shock value. People may be adament about defending GWitch right now, but I doubt it will be remembered very well.

I watched most Gundam show except Gundam X and Victory. I must say G-Witch is one of the best so far, up there with War in the Pocket. A lot of Gundams show has weak casts that I don't care when they are killed, like random Tekkadan children or mauve shirts from Zeta and original Gundam; or one note villains who don't have anything interesting going on besides they are willing to commit atrocities. G-Witch managed to sells its characters for me, where I actively worried that some of them might die, and actually felt sad when a tragedy actually happen to them (Guel), or actively don't want horrible thing happened to one of its greyer character (Nika).
I don't agree that G-Witch suck or not for Gundam fans, maybe you mean not for people that immediately call anything with queer element as 'queerbait' and unable to judge anything pass that.
How far has Suletta and Miorine's relationship gone though? Not far, and it seems it always gets stalled by the plot. That is intentional. It is entirely possible that relationship won't actually go anywhere in season 2, hence why its called queerbait, and let me be clear, I like G witch but I am very aware of its faults, but as the way this season ended, it leaves a lot to be desired, it's impossible to deny the glacial pacing with low payoff and stakes or that the drama and tone of the prologue is almost entirely ignored. The show has a lot of intrigue and it would be exciting to see more of that resolved, but with only another 13 episodes thats a lot of ground to make up for.
My personal big griep with the series is Suletta herself, she has been shown to be a very static character, things happen around her but things don't change her and she only changes things as the plot allows. She has never lost a duel and barely encountered any strife that could change her character, maybe season 2 will fix that but again we're hinging so much on it actually doing that but we don't know if it even will.
This is coming from someone who was very disappointed with Digimon Ghost Game, the ending was absolutely atrocious and will probably go down as one of the worst endings to an anime ever. Anime in general has a problem with resolving plot threads and making an ending. G Witch is showing a lot of signs it's going the same direction (albeit with fewer episodes) with a lot of threads that go nowhere and a hamfisted ending with no payoff. I'll wait and see, but I'm not holding my breath.
@@ORLY911 Imo, the whiplash between Episode 0 and most of season 1 works because it gives a false sense of security. And it gives a huge payoff when the last two episodes of season 1 finally hits. I wouldn't go to debate about the only valid queer relationship is when they actually launch or not.
Suletta's development is hugely tied with the plot though, which means how she handle to the situation around her will be integral to the story, unlike say, Mikazuki who keep being the same kind of guy (and the entirety of Tekkadan that isn't Olga) for 50 episodes.
I know nothing about Digimon. But multiple plot threads being set up and being clumsily paid off in Season 2/second half is a fault that often we encounter in most Gundam shows (Graham in OO season 2, Taiwaz stuff in IBO, Nina stuff in Stardust Memory.) It isn't a fault that makes G Witch is less Gundam than the others.
I wouldn't call it perfect (none of Gundam shows are), but I do think it's good compared to many shows we have in the franchise that rehash the same condescended 0079-Zeta-CCA conflict again and again.

Having the first 10 episodes mostly slice of life was a good decision for me. You start to care about the characters and suddenly ep 12 hits you in the face. I don't have to mention that p2 continues the pain. Besides that GWitch has such good directing. Especially the episode where the company was created. And it is kinda cringe to say one of the worst when only the first part is out which was mostly buildup for the 2nd part.

How can the story be broken if it hasn't been fully told? Starting off a critique like that makes it pretty clear to me that you're not really sure exactly what you're doing. Not to mention that you're actively berating people in the video for having different opinions than you? If you want to talk about music, perhaps you should learn something about music first! You don't even make any points about why the opening is bad, you just say it is! I do think that the second season needs to do a hell of a lot more to explain what's going on. What is a permet score? Why is Suletta so unique? What happened with Ericht and is Suletta her or a clone? What's up with the Aerial? A little explanation goes a long way. I'm hopeful for the second season and hope it's not all pointless like the first. You're right that the plot hasn't even been uncovered yet. Although I didn't dislike it as much as you did, the mecha fights and music really helped. We'll see what happens.

5 episodes into the series and a bit disappointed so far. Going from the gritty and violent Iron Blooded Orphans to school life with stakes such as 'don't get expelled' and 'make friends' is very jarring. Would have dropped it if not for the gorgeous visuals.

I almost quit at I believe episode 8? as the entire episode was about the gundarm gang talking about random business stuff and nothing else. It's something that could've been handled as a 5 minute montage but they made it a WHOLE EPISODE. I was baffled at just how utterly mundane and pointless that episode was.

I don't think the series is terrible but i do have a lot of problems with it, and they could all get resolved in S2, but my cynicism comes from how anime is produced nowadays, it is very common for anime and manga to end poorly and never address plot threads. Suletta herself and the worldbuilding are the worst problems for me. Suletta is a very static protagonist whose only interesting thanks to the mystery of who she really is. As you said, the show barely addresses any of the conflicts happening and is very pushed to the side, and it doesnt truly take advantage of the corporate controlled space angle.
Gundam typically runs for 40 to 53 episodes.. I think you glossed over a good bit to state your opinion. It's not a bad opinion though.
We as the viewers see the world as the Mc does. She as the innocent sheltered type that steps of on her own for the first time, full of hopes and dreams giving her preconceived expectations of the world while knowing next to nothing about the world outside. An accidental fiance used as a plot device to get the story started and give her a point aside from naive mercury hick. The political nature of that engagement slowly revealing that the company's that make and enforce the laws they themselves don't follow. A attempt at a merger that is refused, a political move that forces them to start a company. Corpo fiance going to hard with the business side brings problems for the Mc causing her to become lost and manipulated. Corporate espionage blowing further holes in their front as they establish that they are also working on gundam tech and that earth has gundams too.
The rug pull is slower than normal, it's not just a random finding a gundam in the middle of a system wide conflict and constantly reacting to being thrust into that conflict. Theres media manipulation, corporate corruption, backroom deals, relationship troubles and growth. A slow shattering of the innocent youth and sheltered mindset revealing a childhood of careful manipulation and conditioning by a mother set on revenge. A political engagement misunderstood by one and used by the other developing into an actual relationship as they learn to depend on each other and express how they feel. The former top students fall from glory and growing through hardship. This world doesn't revolve around the Mc and her friends but are being pushed into the world and it's ugly underside. A coming of age in sorts as they become enveloped in gundam plot armor.
Even 00 doesn't escape this as the first 13 ep sets the stage for what is to come. Sure the execution was better but it's always easier when the purpose and setting is more clear cut

i loved it more than I thought I would tbh. I understand the route they took with gwitch, and I'm all for it so more and new people will watch gundam, that way we can enjoy more and better gundam content (hopefully) and better kits which I think is the case with the Gwitch line. I dont mind change as long as it would be for the better in the long run.

I haven't watched it long enough to criticize the overall plot or character growth.
I dropped it around ep5 or 6(?) due to the vast inconsistencies within its own established universe, which removed any and all stakes and make everything unpredictable, thus turning me apathetic to any of its events. Among many other things, the fact that the school has SUCH a big importance to the largest Corpos out there, but almost every test/trial was easily manipulated (mostly by students, not even professional secret forces the corpos would gladly pay for) made me scratch my head - it was so commonplace why would they even hold a pretence that there are "exams" at all? If at every point you can sabotage it in so many ways (even maintnance standards & security is up to students, SO many ways to completely sabotage everyone right there) and everyone would (and did, but realistically would do so even more) considering the stakes.
I'm hyperfocused on that because aside from group rivalries there was nothing else to the show. School doesn't matter. Earth/colonies don't matter. Corpos are a backdrop for hormonal teenagers to duel for marriage/etc. The romance felt like a marketing hook, although the prologue Ep was a better hook anyway.

this one came across to me as a poorly written fan fic. it has echoes of western style story writing. it's as if they were handed a check list of things to put in the show and they did only that. similar to how hollywood makes movies and shows now a days. i don't have high hopes for a good second season, considering the red flags i saw in the first season. it's mid at best. your assessment is pretty much the same as mine.
This show was boring from start to finish. The worst part is I started thinking it was going to be bad just cus of the cutesy art style and setting from the original trailer, then when i watched the prologue it gave me hopes of a fast paced knife edge show where stakes are high. Then episode one came out and we just chucked all the hope in the trash, it turned out i was right from the start.
You can tell how media literate someone is by whether or not they liked GWitch S1.
you have very little. S1 is what we call a slow burn. The plot was very, *very* clearly being set up as characters are established for growth in future episodes and pressure from smaller events build up. Yes nothing is definitively answered, but thats called building intrigue. There's a lot of mystery in these *only twelve episodes* but the writers intent to unravel them is extremely clear
and lastly, its not queerbaiting if the writers already confirmed that there will be queer elements in the story
I mean nah actually, S1 developed everything faster than any older Gundam show, we STILL wouldn't have gotten to the Shaddiq duel if this were, say, Zeta. This is the exact opposite of a slow burn, the amount of stuff that happens in almost every season 1 episode that flips the entire world of the anime on its head is astounding.

Something like The Lighthouse is more of a slow burn, where you can instantly figure out that the characters just went insane but it's the payoff to that that it makes you wait for. I can't really comment on the quality of the show because I do feel like it's not targeted towards me or gundam fans in general. When I watched it was a massive disappointment after I just came off of watching all of gundam thunderbolt December sky and thunder bolt bandit flower.
The sad thing is that gundam thunderbolt isn't even cannon but still 100000 times better than this crap

It was hard for me. I don't like harem or romance series and this is trying to bring in that audience (tsundere ugh). I do love the design and combat, but the slow corporate war brings back memories of the slow droll story from gundam wing (yes it was watch it again). The ending of the season had the action jump up and a proper War kick off. I have higher hopes for the second season, but the romance hitch is not for me. I suffer for my mecha

This show feels like another Victory Gundam. That show was about selling models. G Witch feels like it is made for non-Gundam fans and those that have never even seen a mecha anime of any kind. Thank you for speaking some truth in a sea of rose colored glasses perspectives.

Its so nice to see more western gundam fans with standards be honest about g-witch. I agree with the majority of this video. Didn't agree with the opening take though, I think it has a good song which is unfortunately attached to this awful show. But overall I'm glad to see more westerners point out how disappointing and mishandled this show feels.
With so many good gundam shows that came before g-witch there really is no excuse for it to be as bad as it is.

@@Peasham The writing is boring and the pacing is bad. the motivations behind most characters are shallow at best. the "politics" are also surface level. The main character is an autistic slab of wet wood. Most of the mobile suits are incredibly ugly or uninteresting. I could go on and on.

I really wanted to like G-Witch, but good lord is it not letting me! I love the mecha designs and world-setting, but the show does absolutely NOTHING with said mecha and setting! Also Suletta is very much like Rey from the Star Wars "sequels" in that she is very much a Mary Sue! There was no setup for her piloting the Aerial, hell Suletta ain't even the same girl as Eri from the Prologue!
