I don’t know if a similar comment has been posted about this before but I feel like one of the most impressive things about this song (and all his songs tbh) is the emphasis Stromae puts on pronunciation. Even though I’m French, it took me a couple of replays to really notice it. Take the French lyrics, and you’ll notice how harsh the pronunciation is when Stromae speaks with the voices of the client, the pimp, and the policeman. When he speaks to the people who look down on his mum, the tone is still harsh, but as the son talks to his mother, everything is much softer, smoother. I think this song is more about fathers who are absent, they make children and disappear, leaving the child with questions and an empty feeling of missing his father growing up. I am French and this is how we understand this song, the title actually means « Papa où t’es ? » which is a familiar way to say « Dad where are you ? » The lyrics explain « Everybody know how to make babies but no one knows how to make daddies » Stromae said he barely knew his father and this is not related to the genocide, even if he did die during the genocide.

Just a little info, after almost 8 years of absence, Stromae released a new album 'Multitude' with very interesting songs characterised with the use of all kind of (relatively) unknown instruments of all over the world. He wanted the listener not to be able to put a finger on what it is, and where the sounds are coming from (Asian, African, Latin American,...), a multitude of sounds... Concerning the vid, this was all filmed at Brussels (Parc de Cinquantenaire), with actually a big crowd and of course some CGI. He cooperated with the Belgian National Orchestra (leaded by Dirk Brossé) to have an original sound (cello, harpsichord), instead of all around synthesizer. The result is an amazing sound blend, like you say Slash/Slash/Slash composition. If you wanna listen and react to more (crazy) Stromae songs, try 'Quand C'est' (sounds like cancer, and talks about the disease), 'Papatouai' (about the absence of a father) and 'Carmen' (about social media addiction). I never usually watch reaction videos, but Stromae has a special place in my heart. Loved this video, particularly how you paused and replayed every bit that intrigued you and explained your thought process as you went. This will probably get lost in the comments, but just in case you find it useful: Fils de joie is pronounced 'feece duh jwah'. Literally, 'son of joy'; it's a play on words from a euphemism commonly used to refer to prostitutes ('fille de joie' = girls of joy/pleasure).
More than "girls of joy", fille de joie could be translate by "daughters of joy". So "son of joy" is a dobble play on words on his statut of son of (daughter of) joy. At the end of thé song, Stromae says "Je suis un fils de pute, comme ils disent" it's translate by "I'm a son of whore, as they said". "Pute" is an other french word for sexual worker, so Stromae says again he's e son of a sexual worker but "fils de pute" is also a injuring expression translate by "son of a bitch" ! In the french text, Stromae use this play on words to express the two sens of the expression. Worderful song ans worderful artist

Oh yes, in the video the president was not him - the woman speaking at the start with the curled braid on her head is the president.
Listening to a Stromae song is like examining a Dali painting… it’s genius on so many levels and it demands that you take time to understand (or try to)what the artist wanted to portray.
The visuals in my opinion represent how he as a son sees his mom as a hero and as such she is being buried as a national hero in this fictional country

I don’t know if a similar comment has been posted about this before but I feel like one of the most impressive things about this song (and all his songs tbh) is the emphasis Stromae puts on pronunciation. Even though I’m French, it took me a couple of replays to really notice it.
Take the French lyrics, and you’ll notice how harsh the pronunciation is when Stromae speaks with the voices of the client, the pimp, and the policeman.
When he speaks to the people who look down on his mum, the tone is still harsh, but as the son talks to his mother, everything is much softer, smoother.

This is probably the best reaction I've ever seen. You took the time to consider everything, going back for the rhythm, the music and the lyrics. You tried to figure the meaning of the song without jumping to conclusions, but without giving up on meaning either. And you actually got into it. Stromae is all about dancing, beside everything amazing he puts in his music and visuals, there's always a strong beat and a strong physical involvement. And you were so into it that you were actually dancing.

I think this song is more about fathers who are absent, they make children and disappear, leaving the child with questions and an empty feeling of missing his father growing up. I am French and this is how we understand this song, the title actually means « Papa où t’es ? » which is a familiar way to say « Dad where are you ? » The lyrics explain « Everybody know how to make babies but no one knows how to make daddies » Stromae said he barely knew his father and this is not related to the genocide, even if he did die during the genocide.
Fils de joie should be better translated with context as fils de joie is a referance for fille de joie which is a synonym for whore

Oui, il a expliqué maintes fois, que comme pour beaucoup de ses chansons, les prémices de l'histoire sont inspirées de sa vie personnelle, celle de son entourage, de la société qui l'entoure, mais qu'ensuite, il travaille le texte pour en faire quelque chose de moins personnel, de plus universel.
Dans ses chansons, ça ne l'intéresse pas de parler de lui directement, il souhaite que les gens qui écoutent ses chansons puissent se les approprier. Pour ça il dépasse son expérience personnelle, il la transcende.
C'était le cas pour Papaoutai, c'est le cas pour L'enfer : il y a un peu de lui dedans bien sûr, mais il y a surtout un peu de beaucoup d'autres. C'est ça qui l'intéresse.

Just a little info, after almost 8 years of absence, Stromae released a new album 'Multitude' with very interesting songs characterised with the use of all kind of (relatively) unknown instruments of all over the world. He wanted the listener not to be able to put a finger on what it is, and where the sounds are coming from (Asian, African, Latin American,...), a multitude of sounds... Concerning the vid, this was all filmed at Brussels (Parc de Cinquantenaire), with actually a big crowd and of course some CGI. He cooperated with the Belgian National Orchestra (leaded by Dirk Brossé) to have an original sound (cello, harpsichord), instead of all around synthesizer. The result is an amazing sound blend, like you say Slash/Slash/Slash composition. If you wanna listen and react to more (crazy) Stromae songs, try 'Quand C'est' (sounds like cancer, and talks about the disease), 'Papatouai' (about the absence of a father) and 'Carmen' (about social media addiction). Stromae is a genius, and I think the word you were looking for is Poetry. His music is nothing short of true poetry in music form. Tackling so many topics, from being the son of an immigrant to the loss of his father at an early age, he does it with such style and such art that I am always blown away, always! He was asked if he would ever do English music, and he said he does not speak it well enough to really say what he wants to say the way he likes to say it.
He is a genius, I say again, and everyone should immerse themselves in the amazing beats and rhythms of Stromae.
