    This song has four POV:
    Three verses are from the perspective of a client, a pimp and a police officer. All three men are dehumanizing the sex worker in question, and only her son (chorus) sees her as a human being and a role model.

    • @m4rti075
      @m4rti075 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think the police officer is one of her clients, he just knows she's a sex worker and therefore doesn't respect her

    • @ndessse
      @ndessse 2 ปีที่แล้ว +64

      As Stromae says in his interviews, there's only one POV missing: the one from the sex worker. No one never asks for her POV...By the way, in the second verse the one talking is a woman not a man. He got the inspiration for this video when he was watching a TV program about the children of sex workers

    • @jacob2603
      @jacob2603 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sex workers POV is present in her silence and her place in a casket. Truly the only person responsible for her dehumanization is herself.

    The Belgian National Orchestra, leaded by Dirk Brossé, provided quite a lot of music input for his songs in this album. Stromae wanted to use more original sounds (from real instruments) in his songs. This was filmed in Brussels, at one of the big places (Parc Cinquantenaire), of course digitally modified. And you're right, sublime song. Greetings from Belgium.

    The beat is brazillian funk (I'm brazillian) and he talked on his first performance of "l'enfer" that this album had some influences from the baile funk of Brazil. It's a genre that was considered a bad taste and even prohibited (unfortunately some people still think this, but guess what, this reflects on racism because brazillian funk has roots in black culture), but after decades these genre became more popular and today is one of our biggest details of our culture here. Stromae did a great job with this genre and mixing with classical music. Brazillian artists already did that here, but by doing that he shows how deep he studied this genre to fit in the best way on "Multitude". And by the way, great reaction, keep going! ❤

    Topping his previous BRILLIANT album is just an amazing artistic achievement. He has always tackled difficult subjects in his songs and has an incredible visual style. These songs are so layered and complex lyrically that the deceptive simplicity of the music in front makes it a challenge for me to immediately get it. The previous album was really accessible and could give you more depth if you wanted it to. I feel he has traded some accessibility (less mainstream) to provide more poetic and intellectual content.
    I love it, and I am currently listening to his entire new album. So grateful he has been able to get back in the music game and produce ART!

    Stromae is one of the most talented Artists in the world! Stromae is not a musician or a singer, he represents what it means to be an Artist, an artist on every level! i'm hoping this will be a journey, like the System of a Down journey, or the Harry Mack journey! I assure you, youre going to love every single song hes made! and Yes, he produces his own music! And Stro'mae comes from Mae'stro : "Formidable, Alors on Danse, Papaoutai, Tous les mêmes, Quand c'est, Ta Fête, Santé, L'enfer, Te Quiero... " start with these, we'll provide more later! :)

    Fils de Joie (pronounced Feece Dah Jwah) means son of joy, i.e. play on words for son of a sex worker, basically someone who gives joy... ;) Love the harpsichord start as well. As for CGI, only in part as the place is real, Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussels. The arches and all are real but the 2 art deco statues are not real. The people are real and there's a controversy here in Belgium as the production company used a cheap company who hired the extras. They were paid (from the article I read) about 150 euro for the week in freezing conditions (filmed in January 2022) and catering was not there, they were served waffles as a snack for standing in the cold all day. As for the voices, it's in the person of the son, the pimp and a policeman. He's back from an 8 year break. The guy is a genius and a true singer-songwriter, musician. He reminds me of a mix of Pierre Lapointe (Canadian singer-songwriter) Jacques Brel (Was a Belgian true mega star in his time); both of these are true story tellers and mixed with rap and world harmonies, Stromae is a real story teller and a great musician. Please search more about him on the internet, interviews and all. Try L'Enfer as well as Papaoutai. And Alors on Danse, Formidable... too many to mention. Enjoy

    I see many people agreeing with Stromae being a genious... Fils de joie was the first song of his that captured me... and upon finding out more I realized I have heard Alors on dance and Papaoutai before, but haven't really paid attention.
    One of my personal favorites is Ave Cesaria (a tribute to Cesaria Evora), and my daughter really likes Carmen (about the dangerous of Twitter)... but my wife is probably the biggest fan - cannot decide on a favorite, too many of them.
    I'm so happy you did this reaction and I think you should do more of this (but I realize it's not as popular as reactions to songs in English)... so maybe you should do Peace or Violance by Stromae next?

    The song is about the son of a prostitute, and the way people saw her. Stromae saw a documentary about children's prostitutes and the way people talk to them. He didn't defend prostitution, just talk about people hypocrisy and talk about their pimps. He said that those women are heroes and people just judge them and their children. The video clip was made in Belgium with its army and dancers. The most expensive show he has ever made. And it's a national funeral for those women who some people need but don't recognize them as part of the society. He always gives voice to those who haven't got one. Look at the meaning of Santé, déclaration, riez etc

    Comment on title: "fils de joie" means, word for word, 'son of joy', which sounds very similar to the expression 'daughter/girl of joy' (which is an oldish way of calling prostitutes). But the mother does get called a hero in the song so it makes sense to translate it as 'son of a hero', especially since the meaning would be lost on English speakers if a literal translation was used

    This isn’t France. It’s Belgium. And the video was shot in the park called “Jubelpark”, Brussels (built back in 1880 with the bloody money from the king Leopold Il’s colonial private land Congo, by exploiting, torturing in systematic brutality, mutilating, and killing native population by forced labour). Indeed CGI is used to replicating people and add monumental sculptures. The scene is outside the Royal Museum of Armed Forces and Military History building (which is in the park).

    I love your reaction! Stromae loves to shake up minds, to denounce, to talk about harsh things with cheerful music. He likes to tell stories and put himself in the different characters. Here he interprets the deceased woman, the son, the client, the passerby, the pimp... in a single song. The title is a joke : "Fille de joie" is an old French term for "prostitute". "Fils de pute » (Son of a bitch) is an insult.

    500 extras were used for this video. It’s not CGI. I realize it’s your first time watching it but making such declarations should be avoided. It’s directed by Henry Scholfield.

    Stromae is French Pig Latin (Verlan) for "Maestro" which he is. Please pronounce his name " Stro My" and continue reacting as deeply as the songs, You really grasped a lot of it , The first part is from the point of view of the John , her best customer. He's not against "a little tenderness' but for money he can "insult her,:" The son replies defending his mother against the brutality of a client's abuse. Abused by the John, exploited by the pimp, trashed by the cop, the fils defends his mother by making her a hero.

      But the artist himself doesn't care 🤷‍♂️. When crossing the borders, you will have different pronunciations... Even with the same language.
      In Bruxelles, they pronounce mystro, so Stromy ; whereas in France, they pronounce ma-e-stro so Stroma-e. 🤷‍♀️
      His music matters way more to him than the way we pronounce his name 🙂.
