    In Germany we have the Famicom design, the only difference between the Japan and the German Version is, that the German one says "Super Nintendo" and not "Super Famicom". In Germany we also have the long cables.

    when i used to do region mods i used to re-cut the slot to fit usa carts, i used to even make and fit a flap.
    i always think its strange how different parts of the cases yellow differently, when you have quite a few units like you do i would mix and match the case pieces, that way the cases that need whitening can be, others left you also get more consistent results with whitening.

    • @RetroRepairs
      @RetroRepairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      aly nicholls I did exactly that.
      As for the different colours, I'm guessing Nintendo had a big stack of pieces manufactured in different batches with a different plastic formula. Some changed colours quickly, some didn't.

    I guess all of them have been in a smokers house looking at the yellow colour. Great video

    • @RetroRepairs
      @RetroRepairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Scott Champion not necessarily. Older white and grey consoles turned yellow due to an additive in the plastic. It's designed to make them fire retardant, but it reacts with heat and UV and turns yellow

    • @RetroRepairs
      @RetroRepairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      nathaniel I agree. The multi colour buttons are cool, and the super famicom console design looks better. They changed it for North America because the designer thought the pal/sfc version looked like "a loaf of bread"

  • @derekwashuck7691
    @derekwashuck7691 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You know there is a solution you can buy on the internet called retro bright that gets rid of the yellow layer caused by that fireproof plastic additive and long term exposure to the UV spectrum of the sun and you just soke it in it after your done washing the dirt and grime off ! You would think you would know about that being a retro repair guy instead of waisting time mixing and matching parts that aren't yellowed ! The reason I know about it is in an electronics engineer and I fix video game consoles computers studio audio equipment flat screen TV's professional video and lighting equipment home theatre DJ equipment in my spare time for money and friends and family .

    • @RetroRepairs
      @RetroRepairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Derek Washuck i do know about it, and have made it in a couple videos already. Its not perfect though, and the colour will return. Better to use the better plastic that hasnt yellowes yet, and i will be retrobriting the rest in a future video

  • @redsolocup1757
    @redsolocup1757 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lol you know the yellowed ones are more rare because of the PCB plastic mixture that was used when they first came out.... -- Also, that one didn't sit outside in the sun for 25 years... Learn your stuff man.. What a major turn off to a " retro " channel

    • @RetroRepairs
      @RetroRepairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nobody said it sat "outside". Could have sat on a shelf. I've seen consoles with distinct lines due to stuff sitting on top of it affecting the yellowing process.
      Some are more prone to yellowing than others, some turn fully yellow, inside and out, some need direct uv exposure, some yellow sitting in a box.(Less common)

    • @redsolocup1757
      @redsolocup1757 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You said it sat outside yourself in the video lmao -- Sorry correction " out in the sun " also the PCB plastic yes would yellow due to UV light exposure over time. However I know many people who have consoles that have only had UV exposure from indoor light... With minor and even some deep yellowing...

    • @RetroRepairs
      @RetroRepairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      "Sat out in the sun" =/= "sat outside"
