I think all the characters fears represent something, Trevor is scared of clowns because they look all fun and games on the outside but actually they’re evil, similar to how Trevor hates Traitors and fake people because they lie and deceive while looking happy and innocent. Michael is scared of Aliens because he feels alienated from his family and society in general, he always wanted to be the good guy and he’s scared of being alone which is why he’s scared of being abducted away into space. But Franklin is the levelheaded one of the trio because he has no fear when he smokes the joint which shows he’s the peacekeeper and the one holding the trio together, stopping T and M from going off the rails.
My boyfriend started playing this part of the game and I screamed "PEE WEE!!!" from the other end of the house. He thought I was nuts until he realized it was THAT song, and we both screamed it again. XD
Among my favorite parts of the game because yeah...if you are going to include a clown nightmare sequence in your game then you gotta license Danny Elfmans song. Rockstar is rich enough to do that along with over 100 other songs. I can imagine the developer being like "We've GOT to do this" when choosing music for this mission.
Or maybe one of the devs was just watching pee wee's big adventure and then saw the clown nightmare scene and was like "what if we made an entire mission in GTA 5 where you have to kill clowns while this music plays?"
