Were you alive in the 80's . Phil Collins was played every hour on most radio stations and probably still is to this day..Maybe in 2024 he isn't as relevant as he used to be, but that's just what happens over time.
He was a big deal in the 70s and early 80s, at least he was to the listeners that really had good taste. He was played on the radio all the time back then. I even had a tape. Boy I'm sure showing my age...
phil collins literally has a wikipedia article separate from his main one *just* for his awards and nominations. he’s one of the best selling artists of all time (100mil+), both alone and as a band member, in the same league as paul mccartney and michael jackson. he’s won 8 grammys, six brit awards, two golden globes, an emmy, and several others

I’m 83 and I know now because of Phil singing this song I say I remember when I knew I didn’t care anymore. I still had obligations but the love I felt was gone. I was free. That was in 1966. My life went on but the bonds were broken. I became a new person. I never said a word to anyone but I felt what he is singing. Hope this helps someone understand you can “not care anymore.”
I’m a Veteran with multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan both, that time away from society then the Military treating me as expendable medically discharging me from what I thought was me career with nothing to fall on has had me so confused with people.

He was definitely lip syncing his last concert concert, always loved his music, he will be missed.
This song helped me to finally come to terms with the fact that my dad may have loved me, but he hardly ever showed it. For every kind word he had for me there were a thousand critical statements and comments like " that boy gets dumber every day". I realized that the opposite of love is not hate, but just "not caring anymore". If you hate someone, you still care what they think about you and you let them rent space in your head and your heart. I retired and left the state and never looked back. No goodbyes needed, just glad to be gone and at peace. Parents remember this: words have power! speak blessings over your children!

Reminds me of myself, I just stopped giving a shit after people (my ex and current wife) constantly push(ed) shit on me. First it was quitting weed, then booze, then cig's, then going to church, then doing therapy after I got pushed to the edge, then meds, then having to go to a treatment center for a week because I wasn't perfect, repeat, etc.
If I want to drink some beers and smoke a joint that is my choice and I'm not harming anyone. Just because people can't handle the fact that you can control your shit and they can't doesn't mean they have the right to force you into a box.

I think it’s essential that his children, especially Lily, Nic and also Matthew will be there for him whenever they can.

His music is masterpiece after masterpiece and every single album brings me back to the exact time and season of my life when I first heard it....the warmth of a summer day and the cold of a wintery afternoon, smells and all!! This song expresses a feeling of frustration and apathy. It's like when you've had enough of something or someone and you don't care about it anymore. The singer is saying he's tired of trying, tired of caring, and he's had a lot of hurt. He's done with it. The music is kind of like a musical vent for all those feelings. It's a bit of a rebellious, "I'm over it" song that some people can relate to when they've had their fill of something. This song just comes together so well.

I had a job at a food place and one time the GM got mad about something and was yelling and screaming pointed his finger in my face cause he thought me and another employee was talking about him which we were not talking about him at all . A lady in drive thru goes is that your boss and im like yep and she goes if i was you id find a new job and less than a month later i went to a new food place as manager there and never looked back. Stayed at that job for 4 years before finally got out of food service altogether .
