She was in her grounds probably Scotland having a picnic when two American tourists came over and sat down with them, they asked the Queen if they had ever seen the Queen, the Queen said she hadn’t but he had ( her police bodyguard), he said I’ve met her a couple of times and she can be quite tricky. The American couple asked if they could all have a photo together for their holiday snaps. After they had gone the Queen said I wonder how long it will take for someone to say THAT IS THE QUEEN!

i remember when the news announced her death they immediately played a short video going through her life from birth, to serving in WW2, to her being crowned, basically hitting all the milestones and for her and the country, and at the end they put the clip of paddington thanking her and it was like a second gut punch 5 minutes after the first.

For decades, it's always been questioned, what the Queen kept in her handbag. As a joke, she decided to admit to Paddington that she always kept a marmalade sandwich in it. This was her platinum jubilee celebration, which I believe was the second from last time she was seen on TV before she passed away.

The 2012 clip was from the Olympic opening ceremony.
Paddington was created by Michael Bond in a series of Children's books in the 1950s, and has been a staple of British childhood ever since (he starts out trying to help, but his well-meaning efforts generally lead to disaster, with hilarious results).
In 2014, the first film was made - for the grandchildren of his original audience - and critics believed that the CGI Paddington was well worth the wait. His story is that he came from Darkest Peru, and appeared at Paddington Station with a label reading, "Please look after this bear," and was subsequently adopted by the Brown family. He was named after the station as his original name can only be pronounced in Bear.
A poignant moment in the film is where he first meets Mr Gruber (a junk-shop owner, who is a fast friend in the books), and we get a hint of the reason why someone with an obviously German name is living quietly in the Portobello Road (London has ALWAYS been a place of safety for refugees).
    Oh, and welcome back.

glad to see a video from your channel pop up, sorry you've had a rough few months but looking forward to new content.
ive seen you mention Paddington bear a few times but no one ever really seems to provide the cultural significance of it or why its a such a big thing here. originally a series of children's books in 1958 Paddington became huge in the era of rebuilding post WW2 where the idea of a young character who travelled to an unfamiliar place and struggles to adapt to his new home captured a lot of peoples imaginations being directly inspired by the massive displacement of children during the war, from Jewish children escaping the Nazis to English children being evacuated to the countryside during the blitz.
"In the first story, the middle-class Brown family found Paddington at Paddington railway station in London. Paddington was sitting on his suitcase with a note attached to his coat that read "Please look after this bear. Thank you." Bond has said that his memories of newsreels showing trainloads of child evacuees leaving London during World War II, with labels around their necks and their possessions in small suitcases, prompted him to do the same for Paddington."

Former protection officer Richard Griffin shared a hilarious anecdote during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of when Her Majesty encountered two American tourists while walking in her Scottish estate - who failed to realise who she was.
Speaking to Sky News, he said that she had been out for a stroll on the grounds of Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, dressed in a head scarf and tweeds.
"There were two hikers coming towards us and the Queen would always stop and say hello. It was two Americans on a walking holiday and it was clear they hadn't recognised her, which was fine.
"The American man asked her if she lived in the area to which she replied that she did indeed have a house nearby.
"She said that she lived in London but had a house just over the hill, and he asked how often she had been coming up here.
"She said she'd been coming up for more than 80 years and you could see the cogs were ticking. He said: 'Well if you've been coming up here for 80 years, you must have met the Queen?'
"As quick as a flash, she said: 'Well I haven't but Dick here meets her regularly.' So the guy asked me what she was like.
And because I was with her a long time, I could pull her leg, so I said she could be very cantankerous at times, but she's got a lovely sense of humour.
"Anyway the next thing I knew, this guy comes round, puts his arm around my shoulder, and before I could see what is happening, he gives his camera to the Queen and asks her to take a photo of us.
"Anyway, we swapped places, I took a photo of them with the Queen, we never let on and we waved goodbye. Then Her Majesty said to me that she'd love to be a fly on the wall when he shows these photos to his American friends and hopefully someone tells him who I am.

You need to see the Paddington bit in full - the best clip is one that includes what the crowd were seeing on the screens.
The Olympic opening bit - obviously it was an expert parachutist in a pink dress, but they landed with pinpoint accuracy down behind a screened-off bit in the stadium - then after a suitable pause "to take the harness off" Her Majesty makes the entrance. The best thing is that her family never knew she was going to do this until it happened !
Edit- the crowd POV for paddington is at

Buckingham palace has a 39 acre walled garden including a lake, but it’s all at the back and people only get to see it if they are invited to the garden parties or go on one of the summer palace tours.

Sarah it is wonderful to have you back. You have been sorely missed. Queen Elizabeth II had an interesting life. Her early life was one of extreme privilege and very protected. She had no idea she would be Queen until she was about 12, when her Uncle rejected being the King. It must have been a huge strain on her. She has always taken her duties extremely seriously and put a lot of effort into the job. We British are a strange lot. I am on holiday on the Isle of Wight & Global warming has passed us by. It is quite cool & damp today. There is quite a lot going on in the Isle of Wight, which is a bit of a backwater. But it is the start of Cowes week, an important yachting event. Here in Ventnor we had Morris dancing ( mostly men, strangely dressed, wearing lots of bells and beating sticks ) . There were some Spaniards by me, looking most bemused. I will see if I can upload some of the clips.

Lovely to see you back. You certainly have been living through a lot. I love the Paddington clip. ..... and the one of her jumping out of a helicopter. 'Ma'malade Sandwich Your Majesty' (Paddington Bear clip in full) when when she was ninety-six years old and 'Happy and Glorious' clip is the finale of the Opening Ceremony for the 2012 Olympics when she was 86 years old. I hesitate to confess this but, I often watch the Paddington Bear l & 2 movies - they are charming. With the grandchildren of course or anybody else's for that matter! If you haven't yet watched 'Platinum Jubilee Highlights from the Queen's Four Day Celebrations (about 16/20 mins) that's worth a watch too. Keep well. Love from the UK

I should have said that the real humour about the Paddington skit is that for many, many years the Queen has always carried a handbag with her when she is out and about on her duties, but EVERYONE has always wondered - speculated really - what she keeps in that handbag. So after this - we now know, after seventy years - that she keeps a marmalade sandwich in there.

Great to see you back, There's many other great moments from the London 2012 Olympic opening and closing ceremonies worth a watch, in particular Mr. Bean and Eric Idle also (best seen if you've already watched Monty Python's Life of Brian).
There was a lot of pessimism in the UK befoee the Games such as our Olympics even attempting to be grander than the Beijing ceremony of 2008, but it took a different direction and filled a lot of great humour, I don't think comedy had really been an association of Olympic ceremonies much before, it was filled with British pop culture, comedy and music.
Even the Olympic cauldron lighting is unique, an individual flame for every participating nation.

      @annicecooper8105 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I thought the way the flame was lif was fabulous and really original. Loved that the retired senior Olympians quite literally passed the torch to the younger next generation athletes was very poignant. Then all the individual flames coming together to form one Olympic flame too. Very clever and well thought out.

If you want to see more of the gardens at Buckingham Palace, you could do worse than look at highlights of the King's coronation as he was given 3 cheers by all of the military personnel involved on the lawn at the back of the palace. Welcome back SoGal and good to see you back on here. The James Bond skit was for the 2012 London Olympics Opening Ceremony. Paddington Bear is from a set of stories by Michael Bond. There was an animated series back in the 1970's in Britain of Paddington and Hollywood made a life action film in 2012. Interesting fact is that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky voiced Paddington in the Ukrainian dubbing of the films Paddington (2014) and Paddington 2 (2017). Upon hearing of this, Hugh Bonneville tweeted "Thank you, President Zelensky" at the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in February 2022. A third film in the series, Paddington in Peru, began filming in July 2023.

The clip with James Bond was from the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics and the queen didn't tell William and Harry beforehand. When it went in close, nobody could believe it really was her and not a double and when it looked like she parachuted, Harry shouted "Go Granny". The other clip with Paddington was from the Platinum Jubilee last June and we all got an extra day off work for it.

Welcome back S.!. All those clips are parts of longer video's. - Paddington and the Queen. The Queen and James Bond. You should watch the complete things really. The Bond and Helicopter jump was at the opening ceremony for the London Olympics in 2012.
It was nice when the camera caught her more relaxed side, rather than the formal, though she never let herself put a foot wrong by going too far.
Think the sundial incident was part of an hour long documentary with Attenborough. I suspect when it was originally placed, it wasn't surrounded by trees. She was on the throne for a very long time.

Welcome back. In 1998 the Prince of Saudi Arabia stayed at Balmoral, The Queen's private Scottish estate. At the time Saudi Arabia banned all women from driving. HM asked the Prince if he would like to see the estate and showed him to a battered Land Rover then got into the driver's seat and took him for a break-neck tour of the mountain roads. She was 72. She started driving during the War when she learned to service trucks in the ATS.

Paddington is from the children's books written by an author called Michael Bond who is no longer with us. If you get to watch the Paddington film from 2014 there is a scene where Paddington is walking past a restaurant and waves to a man inside who raises his wine glass to Paddington. The man in the restaurant is Michael Bond in a cameo appearance in the film.

Just for reference the question of what Queen Elizabeth kept in her ever present handbag was always a bit of a running joke in the UK. After all she didn't seem to use a mobile phone and she didn't carry money. The writers of that little Paddington sketch must have latched on to that and 'solved' the mystery: a marmalade sandwich! XD

The thing she did with Daniel Craig was for the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony.
A little bit more on that. During the Olympics the BBC interviewed Princes William and Harry and the interviewer asked them a question about the Bond skit.
I believe it was Prince William who replied that the Queen had told them that she was going to be the next Bond Girl.
Another little example of the late Queen's sense of humour.
