I have celiac disease and if I eat gluten I have a pretty horrible allergic reaction (vomiting, etc.) and let me tell you THERE IS AN IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GLUTEN FRIENDLY AND GLUTEN FREE!! We need to teach some restaurants that- like you can’t serve someone a burger and just take the bread off- no they will have an allergic reaction to that. You can’t just serve someone French fries that were fried in the same area as maybe some dough because even though fries are just potatoes they will have an allergic reaction!!! I love videos like these that spread the word of stuff like this because gluten free diets need to be taken more seriously. If I have enough gluten I could quite literally become infertile! We need to spread the word that people need to be more careful and do research before labeling items as gluten free!!! Awesome video, thanks so much for talking a bit about gluten free diets and who should be on them ❤️❤️❤️

Natalia Perdomo it’s actually not a diet for weight loss, avoiding it makes the person mind function well and have more energy especially for the people who suffer from gluten intolerance or celiac. But you won’t know unless u try so good luck 🌸

Tania Membreno I guess I had it since I was a kid , but back then we didn’t know anything about allergies, my parents thought I have Anemia...so I was taking medicines for that , even doctors don’t know some said it’s because I have iron deficiency.., as I got older and gained more knowledge I got to know about allergies . But some ppl get it in their 20s. I’m 30 yrs old

Pegasus 20 YES!!!! My 9 year old grandson (son of 5 years) suffers terribly with anxiety & right away drs always say “it’s because his mom passed away which I’m sure some of it is but he’s always had anxiety even before my daughters death. I took him off of all gluten & see a difference in just two weeks!! So much less anxious, hardly any stomach upset & sleeps better!! Only drawback is it’s really expensive but worth it.

I was just diagnosed with nonceliac gluten intolerance. Never new it existed. Had to get biopsies. My small and large intestines show nonspecific inflammation. I thought I had lactose intolerance. Nope I was just so inflamed the the lactose couldn’t reach the receptors to release the lactase enzyme. I can go back to dairy once my inflammation is down. Just a week off of gluten, and I’m not as tired. I’m not having soft bowel movements two to three times a day. My headaches have lessened. I do miss the ease of eating. It’s hard finding gluten free foods especially outside of the US. Eastern Europe is full of bakery’s. Everyone eats carbs with every meal. It’s a struggle, but I’ll be back in the US before the year is out. Didn’t realize how lucky I was until I had a restricted diet. I’m still severely inflamed. So I have right upper quadrant pain, but it has lessened. I have to get tested again in 3 months.

I was diagnosed with celiac disease when I was five, so I barely remember eating non gluten free. It's really tough growing up not being able to participate in food related activities like birthday parties, class parties, or even just going to fast food places without accommodations. Denying food that you desperately want to eat, especially as a little kid, is horrible too. Very unfun. I still get sad thinking about all the things I have and always will miss out on.

I experienced nausea in highschool for six months straight. I couldn't eat anything without feeling terrible and throwing, so we didn't think it was a diet issue. I couldn't do physical activity without cramping and throwing up. Eventually I was diagnosed with chronic appendicitis and had my appendix removed. A month or so after the procedure, the nausea came back for another six weeks. It was at that point that we decided to adjust my diet. We cut gluten out first and it's been life changing. I was diagnosed with celiac disease later that year, and Lyme's disease two years later. it's only been about eight years total since then, and it's still hard to talk myself out of gluten-bombing every now and then. Thank you for this informative video!

I was diagnosed with coeliac disease 11 years ago. I never had any symptoms or issues relating to it, but my sister was diagnosed with it, and because it is a genetic disease, I also had to be tested for it. I had a blood test and a biopsy which both confirmed I have coeliac disease. My aunt and my dad both also have coeliac disease.
It was always a challenge when going food shopping or eating out, but today in the UK there is an unlimited choice of gluten free foods in shops and always gluten free options at restaurants. However, it has become a huge challenge for me now that I live in the Dominican Republic where there is almost no gluten free options when eating out, and at my local shop they only sell gluten free pasta. Gluten free food is extremely expensive too, so I always cook with normal flour, bread, pasta, etc for my husband, and use the gluten free things only for me to try and cut down on costs. I pray that if I have children in the future they don’t inherit this from me.

I wish there was more celiac safe options for us, more restaurants that are willing to put in the effort for us. It sucks having to sit and wait in a restaurant with a glass of water as my family eats their food and I haven’t yet eaten, but at least my body will be happier.

I got diagnosed with celiac disease 3 years ago. I remember crying because I saw a food commercial on TV that had foods that I could no longer eat. I have only recently starting eating gluten free bread because I felt bad that my family had to accommodate to MY disease. I will say that it has become alot easier to handle being gluten free because most of what I eat tastes the same way I remember it when I was younger and not diagnosed yet. I remember right after I got diagnosed we immediately cut out ALL gluten from my diet. It was just one day I could eat anything and then I was suddenly limited in what I could. Told my doctor I was having bad digestion issues. She said she tested my gluten levels from a blood draw and was fine. Wouldn't give me any other tests because "it could be anything" and to keep a food diary. I put myself on an elimination diet and sure enough, everything points to gluten issues.

"Non celiac wheat sensitivity" to me means diarrhea, vomiting, severe bloating, hives and itching if I get it on my skin and asthma if it becomes airborne, aches and pains for up to a week after the diarrhea has subsided, longer if I've really abused myself, a few other things not for polite conversation....all with a negative celiac test. I react to wheat, rye, barley, and to a lesser degree oats. I wish more research would go into non-celiac wheat disorders. Cooking for my kids and husband (all normal) would be so much better and less...exciting if a "fix" for them could be found. On the other hand, it was wonderful to discover what was causing me to feel that way and to be able to learn what normal life felt like as an adult. But I would never recommend a gluten free diet if you have a choice. Gluten and wheat are magical ingredients. So glad my kids don't seem to inherited my issues.

I was diagnosed with celiac disease when I was three after almost dying of pneumonia, so I don't really have any memories of how my life was before. I've officially been on the gluten free diet since then, and I'm sixteen now, so it's been a while.
I'd been as good as I could've been with my diet for almost ten years. However, there was one time when I was eleven that I accidentally got some gluten and I was so scared that I'd have a horrible migraine and be throwing up all night, because that would happen when I'd got "glutened" as we'd called it in the past. But nothing happened.
It was really weird, but it had eleven year old me rethinking a lot of stuff. I'd grown up feeling left out at birthday parties and any events with food and all the stuff with gluten in the store always looked really good to me. So, of course, with the slightest chance that it might not have the horrible effects that I thought it would, I decided why limit myself. I started eating gluten.
It was on rare occasions at first, like days out with my friends or when something in the store looked particularly good, and I always had a strong wave of guilt afterwards, but no symptoms. I started eating it more and more often, and nothing. I felt like a normal kid (other than the fact that I had to hide it from my parents). It was great. I still felt guilty about eating the gluten, and lying to my parents and doctors, but the benefits outweighed the cost in my opinion.
When I was thirteen, however, I decided for whatever reason to look up the effects of not following the gluten free diet as a person with celiac and of course all the results showcased horrible diseases like cancer and diabetes. It scared me shitless because gluten had become a semi-regular part of my diet, so I decided to "quit".
Easier said than done. When you hold back from something your whole life because you're scared of what might happen, and then you finally stop holding back and it seemed your fears were for nothing, it's really hard to start holding back again.
I started doing the whole cliché "quitting" thing where you say "Alright, this is the last time, so I get to treat myself", except in my case it wasn't cigarettes or alcohol I was quitting. It was pastries. This went on for a couple months, when I started realizing that what I was doing was counterproductive.
I think the worst time period gluten-wise for me was when I was 14. I was a freshman in high school and I'd just moved to a new place, so I thought I'd start over with my diet as well. Nope. It didn't help that at my new school, the school lunches were actually really tasty. I kept lying to my doctors about it, but when my blood test came back basically saying I'd been eating gluten for a while now, I wanted to quit again. Of course, I told my parents that the gluteney school lunches must've been contaminating the gluten free lunches, and they believed me.
I really don't think I would've been able to stop eating gluten if it weren't for lockdown. I just was not able to quit on my own, and there was no way I was telling anyone. But quarantine made it so that I could only eat the food in our house, which meant only eating gluten free. Honestly for that reason alone, I'm glad that we had to go into lockdown. For the months and month of not leaving the house (my parents were really scared of COVID) I ate no gluten whatsoever.
I was really relieved, but then I thought that maybe when quarantine ended I'd be even more tempted than before to eat it. Thankfully, I never ran into this problem. Once I wasn't eating it anymore and I was so scared to start eating it again, I never really wanted it anymore. When schools opened back up, I only slipped up once, and even then it didn't start the cravings for more.
My latest blood tests have come back with much much lower levels of gluten, in the healthy range even. I'm now starting my senior year of high school and I still appreciate not constantly feeling guilty about what I eat. I haven't told anyone about this, and I probably never will.
Lmao this is long and dramatic. Just felt good to type the whole thing down, and when I start a story I become a bit of a perfectionist about it. If you're reading this, thanks for giving me a minute of your time and have a great day.

Two years ago I became very sensitive to gluten, plus can’t have milk or wheat. Now my test for gluten sensitivity was a 67, it makes me very sick, extreme fatigue that last almost a week from just a little bit of gluten, it makes my head hurt, and feels like the worst kind of drunk that I have ever felt and never want to feel like that again. I can stop the feeling or calm it down at all. Gluten causes a prism like spots in my vision, and vertigo type feeling. Milk makes me have very bad headaches. Before all this happened to me, I never had a problem with any of it that I knew of, drink alcohol with no problems eat whatever I wanted. Now it’s hard for me to find good foods that I can eat and don’t mind to eat. Fruits and vegetables not a problem at all but I’m not a rabbit so eating them all the time is hard to do. The stores in my town doesn’t have much of a selection of gluten and dairy free foods and what they do have cost a lot more then the normal foods and when u don’t have a lot of money for foods that u can eat, you get stuck eating crap that’s not very good for you like processed canned meats,ok they say they are meat but sometimes it’s hard to believe. I have lost over 40 pounds just because it’s harder to find foods that I can afford to eat and that’s good for me. Always willing to find new foods so if anyone has a thought no matter what it is of what foods could be good, I’m all ears.

In the United States you must have a diagnosis from your doctor of Celiac Disease and your spending for the food required for your special diet must be a percent of what you make in order to have a tax reduction. I forget what percent of your income it must be. Sometimes it's honestly not worth it. I find buying whole foods as you mentioned (meats, fruits and vegetables) and making recipes at home work best. Try getting some various flours such as almond flour and rice flour and looking up recipes for snacks. Personally I find it easiest to make larger meals and not snack as much. When I do snack most the time it is fruit or a vegetable, oatmeal (certified gluten free oats), cereal, or things such as boiled eggs. Eating for me has become more of something I do to well survive and not something I "socialize" with. Granted I almost always cook at home and I really enioy cooking and have found some amazing recipes, but other than enjoying dinner with my husband, I do not have any emotional ties to food. I do not enjoy eating out, going to others houses for dinner or community dinners. The people who know me best understand this and respect it and don't ever make me feel ashamed for not waiting to eat out/with others. I know it's a struggle but remember you do this for your health so also try to remain positive for your mental health as well! I pray you find some solutions.and some peace adjusting to it!!

I personally don't have a gluten intolerance or anything of the sort, and after a month and a half of no gluten I have seen no differences, no slowness, no fogging, and zero anxiety, I get people can be alergic to gluten but don't let someone scare you into not eating gluten cause if some placebo affects that only truly happen if you are scared out of eating gluten (I do not say that if you are alergic to gluten "you should just get over yourself health nut" I know alergic reactions can be lethal, and as with anything your brain can be tricked into thinking something is bad/wrong by simple words, it is a proven study in psychology)

In Australia oats aren't considered gluten free, as they contain something that is similar to gluten and can still make coeliacs sick. If you want to eat oats as a coeliac you have to do a six week oats challenge which includes two gastroscopies to see if you're affected by them or not. Most coeliacs don't bother here, and avoid oats the same way we avoid barley rye and wheat.

Ok so I have a really long story so…
In autumn of 2013 I was on a flight home from lanzarote with my family I had been eating things containing gluten the whole holiday (not knowing I had coeliac disease) and on that flight home I was incredibly sick I was throwing up and I had temperature and diarrhoea and those symptoms continued for about a month after that and my parents took me to the doctors and they didn’t know what was wrong with me and did nothing to help they just told my parents it was a really bad stomach bug that most 3 year olds get. I was sick for another few weeks before my mum put her foot down and said that she was bringing me to A&E she brought me in and they did loads and I mean loads of blood tests on me and said that they could see that there was something wrong and then about a week later i got a surgery done to finally diagnose me and they diagnosed me with coeliac disease after I was diagnosed and stopped eating gluten I became much stronger and healthier my stomach stopped looking as bloated and I felt normal. I am now 13 years old and have since been diagnosed with: tonsil itis (got my tonsils removed) and bone marrow disease (currently getting surgery every 2 years) and I’m getting my heart checked at the moment as I have been having heart problems. All I can say is I’m so grateful to be where I am today even tho I was never particularly lucky health wise

It was recommended i go gluten-free last year after being diagnosed with Hashimotos. I didn't think it would help but I tried as an experiment. I was gluten-free for 3 months and didn't see a difference. I went back on gluten during vacation to see if admitting changed in my blood work while overloading on gluten. HOLY CRAP my body went haywire. My menstrual cycle was the worst I had had in a long time and I had more breakouts and overall pain in general. I went back on my gluten-free diet. After a year I have noticed that my gluten issues are inflammatory based. When I have too much gluten, I have hormonal teen breakouts and increased pain. I recently also noticed that since I've gone gluten-free, I no longer have cradlecap type dandruff that I suffered with nearly my entire life. I also haven't seen the dry, flaky patches that I used to get on my face. I promise I miss gluten but I don't miss what it did to my body.

"Gluten Friendly" is the worst because everyone thinks its the same and often gets confused among others when im at a party. I always have a hard time telling people what the difference is and no matter how many times i explain to them they always get the explination mixed up between other things. I always find it extremley difficult to stay calm becasue my friends always seem to think that they can tell me what i can and can't eat when they are almost always wrong and they dont just accept it they try to explain to me how being Celiac works. I think videos like this need to be shared more so people who run food places understand the risks as Celiac gets more common. writing this i realise that im not making any sense but oh well. I think we can all agree that 70% of people who dont have Celiac believe that being on a Gluten Free diet is healthy and helps you lose weight, but they're wrong, it actually isnt very healthy at all and people who have celiac and havent been exposed to Gluten for several years like me can get extremley ill when given Gluten and not eating wheat, and other gluten producs dosent allow our body to get all of the vitiams it needs. Had Celiac since i was 8 and have zero clue what it was like to eat normal foods. hardest part about being gluten free is watching everyone eat delicous looking food right in front of me. Ive gotten used to it but people always say that when they eat a donught in front of me they always feel so guilty by doing it and i have to explain to them that its all right and that its happened to me a million times but think about it makes it worse. I would give anything to be able to eat like a normal person again.

I was in college drinking Busch light when my body just rejected beer completely.
I had thought to myself why my stomach looked so huge yet I could do sit up for five minutes straight
My number twos were just horrid every time. The smell and burning just wasn’t right.
And ever since I started the lifestyle it’s been droves better. I did do permanent damage to my stomach but it’s very livable.
