Shame on you. By publicizing travel in Turkey you are supporting a dictator that has 200 journalists in prison, has murdered 878 Kurds just in 2021 and continues to suppress minorities. There 15 million Kurds, 1.5 Million Laz and 2 million Cerkes people in Turkey but not a single school in these languages. So keep supporting the fascists just to get some free travel. So cheap!!

@@history_repeats8201 don’t compare policy with traveling they are not supporting! Governments are temporary they will definitely change in the next votes. Your comment is populistic! You cannot see Every Turk as a supporter. Turks are very kind and hospitalized community. A sad fact about Ani, Mongols defeated Seljuks in battle of Köse dağ and vassalized them without too much of sacking and destroying. However Seljuk Beys kept rebelling against them and Mongols responded with more brutality every time. They entered Anatolia with large armies, suppressed those rebellions and sacked cities, while one of those cities was Ani which got badly damaged. Perhaps Ani could recover if a major earthquake didn't happen only few decades later in 1319 then people started to desert the city. It is known Priests remained in Ani but living in a ruined city without a community must had been hard so they also left in time. The last Beylik which rebelled against Mongols was actually Ottoman which was technically a part of Ilkhanate and had to use their money etc but Ottoman's power rapidly grew so they couldn't do anything about it...

They do corruption by making roads. Also the time when we had a earthquake over there people find out that government spend all money saved for earthquake and use it making roads. So mainly the reason why it has great roads is a tool corruption.
Make a road more than it cost and let people you know do those jobs that under government permission and get paid by government.

Out of topic but this antient city reminds me of Khaleesi Daenerys’ red city when she takes refuge in with her khalasar. They walked a long way in the middle of nowhere and then they found a rich city like this. So many similarities. Antient people probably built their cities out of nowhere to protect themselves from strangers. Wide opened area, you can clearly see who is coming from outside. 😬

Thanks for sharing about Ani. The saddest part about it is that it is in Turkey. For long time now it was totally abandoned and just recently turks understood what a marble they have in their hands. There is a hope that during restoration it will not completely lose it's Armenian heritage.
