SRV, in any ones list top 3 all time, #1 for me, but give props to Double Trouble, what a great band. His rhythm section, after Stevie passed, RIP, join Arc Angel, worth listening too. Loved your review.
Yes, this is an homage to Buddy Guy. Albert King and Buddy Guy were the guys that he looked to. He once said that his life changed when he heard his first Albert King record. That record is what inspired him to play.
Thanks Randy for asking Alan to check this one out🎶🎸‼️ and thank you Alan for another great reaction👌. Buddy Guy was always a huge influence on Stevie and they wound up as best friends and had a blast jamming together whenever they could. There is a real fun, funny, and chill video of them at Buddy's Chicago Club called "Champagne and Reefer" I think you would enjoy sometime around 1987 I think. Reese Wynans the piano man, joined Double Trouble in 1985 and brought so much to the table. He is like Stevie but on piano, fantastic musician and really great human. It also gave Stevie a break from having to play lead all the time. He could throw it to Reese and switch to Rhythm. As far as what other songs where you get another great piano solo is from this same concert and a title you are familiar with. It is Riveria Paradise and Reese's solo is simply exquisite🎹⭐️💫🌟. Stevie worked on creating versions of this song for many years but at this concert he achieved his masterpiece with it. It even surpasses the studio version which is awesome itself. Also the video where he breaks a string and changes out quickly and seamlessly is Look At Little Sister is from this same concert as well. October of 1986 is Stevie's sobriety date. Six months into recovery he felt his fingers again. Said it felt like taking boxing gloves off! It removed the last barrier he didn't know he had between him and his guitar. He even stepped down to 0.11's for strings at that point. All the videos past this date show happy healthy Stevie and am so glad he had that victory and reclaimed his life and became an even better musician and human being.⭐️💫🌟✨.
One of my favorite SRV videos. It's beyond epic, of course. Another SRV to check out, with a solo from another person included is Look at Little Sister, with Jeff Healey. Genius.
SRV - Riviera Paradise. Double Trouble spoke on the subject after SRV passed away to why he asked Reese to join the band, he just added an element that SRV felt the band needed, he was right.
Keyboard player is Reese Wynans. Another song with a great keyboard solo and a great SRV solo is Riviera Paradise from this same Austin City Limits show. More of a jazz feel.
I was just trying to play My Guitar by the artist I like and I said it just came through the app and it started being on the song I just was doing like anybody else would play my guitar and just enjoy playing it while I thought you might find your daughters
Notice how SRV changes some of the lyrics from what was in the nursery rhyme and what Buddy Guy sang. The lamb is no longer "white as snow"... but "black as coal." Tribute in general to black bluesmen and, of course, to Buddy Guy.
Nursery rhyme from 1879 "A-tisket a-tasket A green and yellow basket I wrote a letter to my love And on the way I dropped it I dropped it, I dropped it Yes, on the way I dropped it A little girlie picked it up And took it to the market
Standard .013 set is: 013, 017, 026w, 036, 046, 056 Stevie's set were a custom set: 013, 015, 019p, 028, 038, 058 According to Rene Martinez he'd go as high as a 017 on the high E, and as low as 012 if his hands got tired. And he tuned to Eb, not standard tuning. All added up to massive tone.
@@davidstout4022 now ! I didn’t know he hard customs , I genuinely thought he was 13’s as first the tuning , I didn’t hear Eb necessarily but I know he could tune as he felt even mid play 😊 thank you that’s so good to have learnt
Only other video I can think of off the top of me noggin, where Stevie and Reese trade solos is Look at Little Sister from the same show as this video. Stevie Ray from what I've heard elsewhere is that he kept close to the original cadence of any cover songs he did, while adding his own touches
Hey, Alan.. couple of ideas.. Freddie Mercury & Queen doing a song based on Richard Dadd's painting "The Fair Feller's Masterstroke"... and maybe also Alan Parson's entire concept album based on stories by Edgar Allen Poe "Tales of Mystery and Imagination"... not exactly what you asked for... but still, very imaginative.... (p.s. smoothest string/guitar switch was during "look at little sister".... same concert as this, I believe...)
Some AP on the channel and he’s great , but some I’ve made have been blocked 🚫 but I will keep trying . Also totally on board with your recommendation 👍 coming soon
Yep - I agree that Buddy Guy did it first.. but same as Jimi H. did some songs that SRV covered, I have the unusual opinion that Stevie was "better".. IMHO.. appreciate your reaction! (and, oh, yeah - Reese Wynans on keys!)
“A tisket, a tasket, a green and yellow basket” are part of the nursery rhyme as I recall. Why a nursery rhyme? You’d have to ask Buddy, but Stevie usually picked songs he enjoyed playing, period!❤
You asked where SRV gives you two solos for the price of one. Ok. SRV became very good friends with Jeff Healey. As SRV said, "Jeff is the guy that challenges my to be at my best, every time." I will and thank you for your kind words 😊👍
It's an explosion when that man plays the guitar!!! Whow🤘
Oh that’s a good description 😎👍
Only man i know who could turn a nursery rhyme into a blues song
👍
SRV = The G.O.A.T.

And because of SRV, Albert King started playing again.

Another great SRV reaction, thanks!!
My pleasure 😊👍
Saw him live a few times., amazing!
Stevie Ray brings along a fantastic band.

Jeff healey is on the channel 😊 but I’m sure going to “ look at little sister “ thank you 😊👍😎
Have you seen Live Without Yo Live at the Capitol Theatre? If not, it is a must watch
Oh I’m on that 😊👍
SRV - Riviera Paradise. Double Trouble spoke on the subject after SRV passed away to why he asked Reese to join the band, he just added an element that SRV felt the band needed, he was right.
Thank you , that makes sense to me and now you’ve confirmed it I’m better off 😊👍
Keyboard player is Reese Wynans. Another song with a great keyboard solo and a great SRV solo is Riviera Paradise from this same Austin City Limits show. More of a jazz feel.
Thank you and noted 👍
You can also see Reese working with Joe Bonamassa and other greats, in addition to his solo work, since Stevie's passing.

Not part of the original rhyme, they were added I think in the American publication or later 😊 and I’d have love to know why Buddy picked the song 😊
@@alan-reacts65 Good question!

Crossroads is definitely a derivative of "Faust", whether it's intentional or not. And VooDoo Child has a lot of superhero references
Ooh I need to rethink crossroads and re listen 😎👍
Yeah, Buddy, Albert, B.B., Freddy, and Jimi were his major guitar influences
Not necessarily a nursery rhyme but White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane. Based on a book.
I like that suggestion , early prog Airplane 😊👍😎
My name Jason d u t h r i d g e I was just playing my guitar and it came through on the amp and it started going from there
