- Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, and Austin Butler star in The Bikeriders, and this is my official movie review. Today, we talk spoilers, the ending, and no spoilers, as we discuss this Jeff Nichols film.
THE BIKERIDERS captures a rebellious time in America when the culture and people were changing. After a chance encounter at a local bar, strong-willed Kathy (Jodie Comer) is inextricably drawn to Benny (Austin Butler), the newest member of Midwestern motorcycle club, the Vandals led by the enigmatic Johnny (Tom Hardy). Much like the country around it, the club begins to evolve, transforming from a gathering place for local outsiders into a dangerous underworld of violence, forcing Benny to choose between Kathy and his loyalty to the club.

It's a character driven film that explores the relationships they have with each other. Its not a plot driven film with big set pieces and large scale conflicts. Its a film about very personal stakes and conflicts. Because it's character driven, it's important to let the characters develop on screen and become well rounded, even within their own frame of the film (extended takes to let us see the nuance of the performance). Because of that, it can feel slow to people who do not get on board with the characters or find any relatability. I would argue that the characters are very well rounded and fleshed out and relatable. I'm honestly shocked to hear that some people believed the characters were flat or underdeveloped. I think this is because they wanted more of the characters reacting to the plot itself, or the plot pushing on the characters. I think that having the characters instead reacting to other characters is a superior method of developing a character. The acting alone really sells everyone's internal conflicts coupled with the external conflicts they have with each other. Its basically a family drama, where the riding sets the atmosphere and mood. It's almost not even about riding.
.. and I would say the movie showed "facts" ( those chosen by the director and filtered by the script and camera, of course ) - and then you are free to interpret what you saw, to guess the mental and emotional processes of the characters and come to an ambiguous conclusion - as in real life... btw. did the main characters start a "head over heels" and basically unlikely relationship and then we see them mostly quarrel? - :) I would say this looks quite logical; your next question could be "why do they carry on?" .. and this is free for you to guess.... which, in my opinion, is a prerequisite of a good movie of a certain kind....... (I am not a native speaker, I am sorry if it is too obvious)
Crazy that Norman Reedus just showed up on set and refused to leave
Are there very legitimate criticisms to be had? Yes.
But I also just had a lot of fun watching it and I think my only wish was that it had been longer.
it really did deserve another 30-45 minutes, it was a fantastic movie but did need some extra fleshing out.
Loved the hell out of this one, and I wasn’t really expecting to. The Tom Hardy for best supporting actor campaign starts NOW…Great review, AB!
SPOILER ALERT. Saw the movie last night and enjoyed it. Great performances by Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy and Austin Butler in that order. I also wondered why they burnt down the bar and agree with you. When the Hardy character was shot it didn't come to mind at the time that he knew he'd be killed, but I agree with you on that too. Thanks for the review:)
Thanks so much!!:)
I agree- they pretty much incriminated themselves for no real reason
I just got home from seeing this movie. Very good review, Austin!
Thanks for this entertaining video Austin! I really enjoy the way you edit. I get a laugh out of your reviews even when I don’t really care about the movie lol…😊
I appreciate that!:)
I've seen it twice and going back for more. Story and acting were perfection!
Lmao. Watch more movies

Another fantastic video! Thank you Austin!
My pleasure!
Have you ever heard Tom Hardy talk with a normal voice?
Only in interviews
Tom Hardy made this movie, wasn’t really a fan of Austin Butler’s performance though I believe that was the direction mostly
Good review
They managed to make suburban Chicago look cool and beautiful even. Gotta be something in Cinematography next awards season for this flick.
Good review man!! Just uploaded my review. Definitely a pretty dope movie to see with the family, reminded me a little of The Iron Claw without the tragic element. Give my take a look if you’re free!
saw this on Monday with AMC Screen Unseen and this movie was shot really well and I liked the characters individually but it really left me wanting more. I had so many questions about the characters and what their day to day was like and why they even really wanted to join the club in the first place. Who even was Benny lol. The fire was hella random imo too - like idk why it had to go that far. But interesting, for sure. Glad I saw it for a low price lol
Nice review bud
Thanks!
So if it was nominated would say
Jodie - lead actress
Butler - lead actor
Hardy _ supporting actor
Hi bro, please review Kalki 2898 AD.
Austin - Why Do You Hate Product Placement In Movies & TV Shows?
Saying that the gang turns dangerous is a huge spoiler imo
Thanks for the review Austin. I was looking forward to this film based on the cast. However, all the reviews I'm hearing are similar to yours. So going to skip it. Thanks again!
It was interesting but not entertaining. Was too slow with no plot. Love riding but who the hell would want to live that lifestyle. Kinda like prison movies being interesting but don’t want to go to prison.
No plot is Often a problem with factual movies. Ironically the same problem with Michael Shannon’s Ice Man film which ends like a damp squib
You don’t know what sauce is

@@adrianpale2342 thank you for saying everything I wanted to say so eloquently and effectively. You sir, know sauce when you see it. Jeff Nichols has it and his direction here is so steady and rock solid. And agreed the performances from the main 3 are stellar. Hardy is incredible w/ the facial acting and Butler is channeling generational coolness.
You're ignorant
Comparing this to a prison movie shows ignorance about this topic
I didn't hate it, but the best part of the movie was the Nosferatu trailer.
Was boring as fuck... Can't recommend.
The only takeaways were the sounds/bikes... And Jodie Comer's character Kathy. She was brilliant and I won't be surprised if she gets some noms.
I just dont like austin butler could not even make it through elvis
My least favorite Nichols. But it's still okay and cinema worthy.
Dramas. Need. To. Stop. Being. Advertised. As. Action.
I dont feel like it was advertised as action.
Saw it yesterday. His accent is annoying. This film 🎥 was a let down.
No interest in watching a movie from the chicks pov, it looks and sounds like a lifetime movie with a better budget.
... Believe it or not.. she is the only reason worth seeing it. Beyond her.. the guys shit is boring.
@@christrees664 Fair enough.
@@christrees664agree, won’t even wanna watch this if not for her..😂
