I had one of these songs stuck in my head for years and today I finally found it. Probably the reason I statues playing metal haha.

So many ps1 games have such awesome sountracks in all kinds of genres. I feel like it's an unwritten rule of PS1 games to have crazy cool music in it!

The soundtrack to this game was crazy, I remember purchasing it on release & all my friend's were drawn to it.
It probably has the best soundtrack out of all PSX games.

This song sounds like it belongs to a pro wrestler's intro theme.
I remembered the fantastically heavy soundtrack from this game and researched it via Spotify. It's pretty epic how they extracted a lot of great samples by looping single bars from the same EP as the Intro music (Painful Reconstructed - EP):
"Main Menu" is from Painful (Dive Dub), 0:30 to 0:37 in the song.
"Stage Select #1" is from Painful (Mix The Pain), 0:43 to 0:47 in the song.
"Stage Select #2" is also from Painful (Mix The Pain), 1:13 to 1:17 in the song.
the rest seems to be composed for the game.
there are also some things I noticed. The main track is a remix made by the German band OOMPH!, the initial sample (2:56 to 3:08) is the same that appears at 1:24 to 1:40 of the song "Das Weisse Licht (Refraction)", from the same band. There is also another sample of another song by the band on one of these tracks with the title unknown. At 4:44 this same sample exists at 2:50 to 2:54 in the song "Song for Whoever" also by OOMPH!
It may be a simple coincidence, but it always aroused my curiosity that maybe the band contributed in some way with the soundtrack in addition to the theme track...

@@karelpipa recently i've talked about this with Flux, Oomph's guitarrist. He said the band wasn't invoved with the game soundtrack, and the main title was a courtesy from Virgin Schallplatten to Virgin France and this was just to promote the "Painful Reconstructed EP" by Sin.

Thank you for this comment. I just dug out my old disc from a box and ripped the soundtrack onto my PC. Now I can relive all the memories of the first video game I ever owned!

My Grandfather and I used to play this when I was a kid. He did some rally racing IRL back in his day. He'd always pick the Ford Focus and I'd always have the Seat Cordoba. We were very evenly matched actually. Great memories

Unfortunately we only know the intro / race 1 song (sin - painful (morphium mix) and the menu music (sin - painful (mix the pain) & painful (dive dub). I'm guessing the other songs are original tracks made for the game and may not even have names.
