i got a noisy alternator on my 1985 700sc and you gave me a look at the bearing when you were in there, and there is one more on the other side, i think one of mine is shot, so thanks for giving me a look, i think i am going to need a puller tool like your friend made you . love the T'nt F/A 340 [ 400 ?] at the end of the video, i had a '73 400.
I had purchased a ‘85 CB650SC in ‘86, which after several new cam chain spring replacement, I decided to change out the Hy Vo cam chain to a new part. Might have put on 30k miles when I did this (bike bought brand new). Long story ~ short… All back together & oil GUSHED out of the 90 degree drive section (NOT the exact same location, mine was on the underside of the 90 degree housing. I wasn’t going to pull everything to redo the entire job. I loosen the bolts that held the 90 degree, prayed it out just a touch, found I had flipped over the gasket on installation. Couldn’t flip gasket over, SO I APPLIED A BEAD OF RTV ON THE machined surfaces, waited 24 hr.s, bolted the 90 d. back, never leaked a drop! If you pull the 90 D. out too far, a washer will drop off, so extra extra caution would have to be used!!!. Otherwise, pull engine and redo the entire procedure. Great video. Loved my CB 650 SC. As the mileage got higher, it developed a weave of some sort been you’d really bent it over in the corners. Changed out triple claim steering head bearing, but no change. Just one of it’s failing I guess? I suspected the needle bearing in the swing arm, but that required a “special” Honda tool I wasn’t willing to get, when you could still get them. Sold it to my stepson for a dollar, and told him not to push it, that weaver was unsettling…
Great video and thank you for taking the time to post it. I have the same year & model (except my is blue) and has been a great bike so far. At least now I have a basic understanding of what I will be facing if/when I need to work on it. Very informative and educational.. Best Wishes from Texas!
Good videos X 3... I've only worked on one chainsaw, myself. Never touched nor even ridden a motorcycle/engine. Just doing research to help my brother, repair or replace a nightwawk 650 oil pan. He over tightens, everything possible, and broke main drain plug.
I took a look at the undrneath and seen the exhaust pipes under the pan. Bloking access to the pan bolts. My real question is: How much of the exhaust sys has to be removed? part or whole? 1985 honda. Already received the new part. I have a new oil pan still in the box... Thinking to re use the new/old gasket. My brother tried to fix the treads on the drain. w/ repair kit. He also installed a new gasket. The new gaskets for the oil pan are hard to find, per my brother. And he hasn't ridden the bike far since. 2011. He may have cleaned prepped the pan for the new gasket install, he doesn't remember...says, that the new one was pretty sticky . Hopefully since it's seen little use the gasket will come off easily... I'll probably use the old gaskets, exhaust manifold too.
I'm thinking the exhaust wont be that hard to remove, you may need a helper, Two bolts near the passenger foot pedals, two underneath rear of the oil pan and 8 connecting the pipes to the cylinder head.If I have the luxury of a new gasket I just oil them thoroughly and that improves the chances of the gasket coming off on a future reassembly.Sometimes a bit of black silicone sealer in necessaryGood Luck!ALP
Thank you, That's sounds like fun. easy. I haven't started to disassemble the pipes yet. Doubt my brother had oiled the new gasket first, before tightening the oil pan. Good advise. Arne
Hey Sounds Good Roger! I seem to remember some guys talking about advancing the valve timing by one notch on the cam gears and getting a bit more oomph. I wouldnt reccommend that! Have fun and let us know how you get along with the MOD!!
@@wfvs1500 i think i would be better off with the cam being built than adv the chain. however now that you mention that i could ask the have them make the sprokets on the cam adjustable perhaps.
Part 2 was removed by You Tube because of the opening theme music I used. I tried to take the audio track off but they still don't like it. Sorry I'll try to Re upload it soon.

I guess I'd check on eBay and the Nighthawk forum, I'm sure there will be an oil pan. What year is the 650?

@@wfvs1500 it woulds be nice to ret the timing for 6th w /NOS
I don't know, the original noise was gone but now it sounds like the valves are clicking. Perhaps the lash adjusters will eventually fix this.

i enjoyed the B.T.O. you had on this one !
