I'd like to mention a hidden mechanic in the game called "Sliptide". It's basically a juiced up drift that allows you to drift through sharp turns with a bit more ease. To pull it off, all you need to do is to just turn to the left or right while you're going very very fast, and when you turn, you just tap the drift button, don't hold it, tap it for like a second or less. If you did it correctly, a whirlwind will appear behind your car, representing the accumulated speed, which will be released automatically if you lose your momentum, though you can hold it in and even store more speed if you manage to keep going fast. I hope this info is helpful to ease the difficulty of DRRR. (Fun fact; there was a tutorial planned for this, but it wasn't included, unfortunately)
My only real complaint was how they previously locked the second half of the GP cups behind getting the Emeralds, which just... oof, no way. I used a code to unlock the rest of the levels. Now that they've apparently removed that restriction, I have no complaints. It's a phenomenal game. Brutal and vicious, but phenomenal.
HONESTLY YEAH. I got into SRB2 back when Castle Eggman Act 2 was a button hunt and the end of the game. Well over a decade ago. And seeing it come as far as it has since then, becoming legitimately one of the best 3D Sonic games, and a really polished experience... It brings a tear to my eye.
Well said, always love people being kind to this game after its rocky launch. This quickly became my favorite Kart Racer ever, and fit into my top 5 games of all time! Ps. Bumper might honestly be my favorite item, I love doing a bit of trolling :))))
I think the biggest hurdle this game faces is the skill floor mixed with the heavy rubber banding, it makes it unappealing in a skill heavy game. Another skill heavy racer, CTR, has very little rubber banding at base and was casual friendly in single player. Throw on how overly punishing some items are and how due to the ring system being hit is even worse then normal. So it is if you took a game, amped up the skill while also amping up the party. Both sides see something they can dislike and be pushed away. It is great for anyone who wants this type of thing, but really struggles to appeal outside of the niche. If they had more casual entry point and natural progression from it I think things would be much better. Not a tutorial, but just casually playing the game without complex mechanics, and having those be something you learn later like CTR did. People want to master a game when they enjoy it, it is rarer for people to want to master it from minute 1, especially if your friends can't approach it. Edit: I want this game to do well, I am just concerned all its bars are too high for other people while feeling contradicting at points. I mastered CTR and I can master this game, I am simply being mindful of others and what I saw casuals feel from CTR.
Oh the CPU downright cheats at times, however the most recent patch has made it more manageable now when compared to launch day, Hard mode still sends me packing but thats what I expected. That being said, it is true that the difficulty is the main hurdle, its a hard thing to balance. CTR did indeed do it well, honestly that game is great when it comes to easing people into its mechanics with its single player mode. It does look like Kart Crew are taking on feedback to fine tune some things, so hopefully in future there is a way to keep both sides happy. As for items, I still stand by my words that the bumper is the worst thing ever created. It still gives me nightmares.
Removing lives from the GP or making them less punishing would probably make the game a lot more accessible for little effort. Fix/replace some of the more low-quality page 1 maps, fix up the bots, and it would be a very tight single player kart game.
@@Chazwhickoh I always hated that, the "Rival" bs is the bane of my existence. Even worse, on the final lap they get even more random boosts! In a game where simply grabbing first is a chore I don't need cheating CPU's to make it worse 😵💫
I kinda wish that the Emeralds had more of a purpose. I don't think they really do anything. I'm hoping that sometime into the future, they make an update that gives them more of a use.
its more of a bragging right tbh you technically also unlock some stuff with the emeralds (i think two followers, encore/mirror mode and maybe gear 4) but other than that and unlocking the first half of the second section cups earlier than you should, they dont do anything
8:30 well i just farm some chao keys to skip the challanges cause im too lazy to do all of those stuff so yeah😅😅😅(yeah i put up a pasword to get some more chao keys🔐)
The game is astonishing, but why oh why do the devs make the karts handle like trash on purpose? Seems like no matter who you pick, the karts refuse to turn period! That said, I never expect to win so not that big a deal, but still 😅
When I first started playing it, I found the drift to feel fairly heavy, but when I found a character that I gelled well with I got used to it fairly quickly. Just need to find that one character that does the same for you!
Also, don't forget to look into Sliptiding. Basically, after you hit a boost pad, you whip your cart into the turn and tap drift. It's actually mandatory for turns with boost pads before them-which there are a lot of. Otherwise you'll hit the wall, go off the track or etc. Granted, there's often an alternate path you don't need to Sliptide for, but if you don't even know about Sliptiding, you'll just keep going down one path wondering why you go off the track no matter what you try.
Kart handling is based on your character's weight(you can see character stats in the selection screen by pressing the drift button);the lighter someone is, the better their handling. Also dont be afraid to tap the brakes while drifting when you need to make sharp turns, the game expects you to do this more often than you think especially with heavy characters. Btw if you are playing with a D-Pad/keyboard disable Lite Steering in the accessibility settings if you still feel like you cant control your kart
i have a friend who has a vendetta against this game and i'm trying to convince him that it's not terrible i don't think this video's gonna be enough chief
There's a video talking about how overdesigned the game is ... And I agree with it. Too many mechanics that just doesn't mesh well, a 40 min long tutorial, that doesn't explain most of what you need to know... I tried to go back recently to try again, just to feel like a baby trying to drive a real go kart.
I got sent here from hitting a bumper.

Funny enough, it's even in Kart.
I'd seen people sliptide but didn't know how to do it. Thank you for providing that piece of information, I'm sure it'll help with my races.

Did they change it? Cuz I just unlocked all of them like no big deal at Gear 2 and I don't know anything about emeralds
When you first time playing SRB2, it should unlock an achievement named:
Don't forget, you're here forever
you try to leave, you inevitably come back years later and have a blast

Pro tip. Just install a 100% save. The rubberbanding cpu is not worth the stress.
