Tokyo seems very livable when it's so convenient getting to the ski resorts. Just came home from two weeks in Japan. First week we took the train from Tokyo to Nagano for skiing, back to Tokyo, then flew to Sapporo. Everything went so smooth -- trains and planes were all on time. Carrying all the ski gear and luggage on the metro during rush hour on the other hand.... Really enjoying your videos!
@@johan.mp4 Japan is getting older and older partially because young people dont have the time to engage in reproduction because of all the work. There are people who are dying young at their workplace because they are so overworked and suicide rates are very high. And if you are not Japanese, the japanese society isnt easy for you. Japan is not really open to foreigners. I wouldnt necessarily call it racism, but you will propably always be treated as an alien by some.

Please wear a helmet next time you go skiing; it’s becoming nugging dangerous without it. ❤ Besides that, I like this video. Even here in Austria, you must take a bus to transfer between train stations and skiing resorts, so this direct connection is fantastic!
Sadly the combined train/lift pass offer is only for Japanese credit card holders. I tried about 6 UK credit/debit cards and it failed every time. I went to the tourist information office at Tokyo station and they said it’s only for Japanese cards
Never been to Gala, I think next time I am in Japan I will try it just for the Shinkansen to lift novelty of it. I hope you had chance to visit Nozawa, my favorite place to ski in Japan Btw that is a nice shirt! What is it?
Just came back from nozawa. Can't beat the free scaling onsen (and buying steaming bums directly as they come out of the steamer) after a day of skiing. Though next year I'll probably go to hakuba or niseko for something else. Getting ready to be disappointed.
Gala is great because of the easy access by train from Tokyo, because belongs to the train company JR. Everywhere else in Japan is kind of really hard to get. That being said most of slopes are below 1000m, snow is not the best. I got a Gala season pass just because of the easy access. Now is cheap because the Yen currently is junk, like 7 years ago the one day package was $135, still quite cheap.
gala.co.jp/winter/english/buylift-en/ The problem is, it'll redirect you to the JR website which only works in Japanese as far as I know. So booking my ticket was actually a bit of a challenge.
For just a day trip to Gala, yes. For multiple days at various resorts not so much. I'll release a video about the best Japanese cities for skiers and snowboarders this week. So stay tuned ;)

It's the 120 but tbh I wouldn't buy it again. Base is too thin and I keep destroying it. I also don't like the way it handles 😅. I'd rather try one of the skinnier ones next time.

It is fun to visit Japan (and fine living if you are one of the lucky few foreigners), to be Japanese, not so much.
@@_e5598 Not sure what that's supposed to mean?

Great video, once again.
Madaro and Nozawa are workable for day trips from Tokyo too.
About 1 hour 40 minutes from Tokyo station to Iiyama station, then about 20 minute drive.
Interesting report. Thanks for that!

I was able to book my train+lift+rental through orion tour...with my foreign credit card.
Wie immer ein geiles Video.
$65 for round trip high speed train and a lift ticket is insanely cheap. That's less than my weekday ski tickets were this year.
"Tastes like sake" 😂😂😂😂
Great vid!!! Thanks!
sure beats the traffic up to Whistler!

That’s awesome
Japan was suffering from a lack of snow until February, and now we've had several snow days in March. It is strange, but we have to accept it.
Super video! I had no idea this was possible in Japan. I know we have a few cases like this here in Austria

Excellent video! But that song was driving me crazy bad😢
more of these!
“Why on earth do you ski a Bent Chetler 120 on groomers??!!” says everybody but me because I do the same.
Where were you able to buy a roundtrip bullet train ticket and a day ski pass for $65?

How did you get from the area with the sake back to gala to take the train?
There's a shuttle bus. I think theoretically I could have jumped on the bullet train right there.

What ski's are these? Looks like they are great for going fast through crud and rough pistes (6:22). I'm looking for such type of ski.
Atomic Bent Chetler 100
Looks more like the 120mm Version. @ theslipperyslope. Ski Length and your height would be interesting! They look kinda short. LG aus Sbg
