I’m Peruvian, all of this is 100% accurate. I’ll add that the Spanish made some effort to give native Peruvians the ability to blend into their culture to the point that some even married them and became royalty. This is where the Mestizos race began to exist, the combination of both races. The daughter of Francisco Pizarro and a native Peruvian woman even went back to Spain to have a life of royalty and luxury. It’s all very interesting. But yeah, the Spaniards colonization was brutal and excesses were commited.

I love the Spanish! Medieval and modern Spain is awesome. Christian Religion - Christianity/Catholicism is actually or just Christianity in general i feel is a good thing. And you know the Spanish were known at least at that time, although I don't know about how deeply today though, were known to be the most deeply religious of all the European colonial empires. It is of the true God and faith, no matter how messy and confrontational it became to spread the word.. as God did say to go to the other lands and spread the word...or anyways, something like that. He did. It was God's plan that worked mysterious and unsuspecting ways. As the saying does go, God works in mysterious ways. It could have been worse, imagine if the Muslims made it to the Americas instead and encountered these natives by spreading Islam. It is not of the true God as they (Muslims) may think. Even scholars and professional academics today question Islam's credibility involving the prophet Muhammad and what type of man he really was and the terrible things he really did and if the supernatural being he encountered really was and angel or something else, and its writngs amd the timeframes of when the or parts of the koran were written, and a whole slew of other things that people question its credibility about it,and if it really is of God or Satan. Seriously. Thank God for the Reconquista in SPAIN and Portugal
Adding up to what was accurately said, the Inca empire was conquered only with the help of the other nations like the huanca, cañari or chchapoya who believed would to be liberated. They provided food and thousands of warriors for the battles. Francisco Pizarro married the daughter of the Huanca ruler. Spaniards were very smart on letting this people fight with each other
1.) Yes, I was thinking about that as well, at the start. 2.) Regardless, talk was of miles, not kilometers. 3.) Also, it's not all about length, surface area matters too. 4.) Speaking of empires, the Romans had something huge going, long before the Mongols. 5.) And even current Russia is huge, area-wise. 6.) Who knows, maybe the Incan empire was gigantic as well. 🤷♀
The word “colony” is inacurate. The Spaniards incorporated the new territories right away as kingdoms, equal to all other territories of the King such as Castille, Aragon, Navarre, Sicily, Grenade, Naples, etc.
Truth is that history of the Americas is only recorded from after all the different famines have taken place, so really the only way we can learn more about the past cultures is through archaeology, and archeology is limiting in that it can’t prove a negative without evidence. So the narrative usually lacks behind the sciences. I always take the written accounts of cultures in America post contact with a grain of salt, because they were already going through population collapse, and thus there culture had already dramatically shifted.
It's interesting how we tend to think of cooler countries being more prosperous and advanced, but amongst the Native America, the opposite was true. Their most powerful civilizations and civilization centers were all in the tropics.
But Mr Sowell explained that being at a high altitude meant a correspondingly different climate... (...with less diseases, and so on...) Which means the Incan (leadership) settlements were in cooler areas, compared with those settled by subjugated tribes.
Huascar was older and legitimate son of the king with his wife the queen; he wqw born in the empire capital Cuzco. Atahualpa's mother was the king mistress, he was born in his mother birth place, Quito today in Ecuador. He did not recognize the authority of his brother and initiated a civil war. Atahualpa waa supported by Quito province which was conquered a few decade before by the Incas.
The Spanish alone did not conquered the Inca by themselves!!!! The Chanca, The Cañairi, Black slaves and others sided with the spanish and 260 spanish soldiers plus tens of thousands of native armies conquered the Inca
With many practical cultures the abstraction of written language is absent. The Quippu is a three dimensional representation of language using COLORED knotted threads. It's use for numerical record was first discovered, more recently its wider use as a general language interpreted. Unfortunately few Quippu exist.
Did the Inca call boats/ships "houses on the water"? ....or is that a reference to the North American tribes when they saw their first ship in Manhattan? (as far as I am aware)

I like Thomas Sowell but I realize that Americans in general believe they are the saviors of the world. I admire them in some aspects but, the fact that we look very native to this date in Andean countries, speak about the race mixing, which is not the case in north America.
Victoria, I'm not sure I understand your meaning. (my apologies if it's my fault) I'm from the US, and we don't generally believe we're the saviors of the world (various people believe various things, I'm sure). We are very strong economically, and have done a lot of good in the world with it. Charles, "racism" is a ubiquitous aspect of human nature - people naturally fear and distrust what is different. Neither English nor French people invented it, but the disdain for it was invented by White Christians despite practice throughout the world.
@@falloutfan2502 the problem with saying Christian is many profess but Jesus will say I never knew you. Many who call themselves Christian have been racist. It is not in the spirit of Christ Jesus to be racist.
@@darlenemotley5508 My point was that literally all peoples all over the Earth of all religions and backgrounds practice racism, as it's loosely defined today. There's absolutely nothing Christian-specific about it. Moreover, Christians are predominately the ones that advanced the cause of general brotherhood among the races, more in alignment with Christ's views. It's been a progression, and we're far from perfect, but it's dishonest to pretend that "Christians are racist", when in fact it's more the opposite.
Did you even watch the same video? It was totally the white man, with some help from the natives. “Hispanic” is not a skin color. In this case, they were white.
Yeah, kinda impossible to rationalize that statement in terms of "White" or "Hispanic" (the definition of which is somewhat nebulous). The Spanish (and Portuguese to the east / Brazil) were European, and would generally be considered "White", although rather swarthy. But it's not "whiteness" that caused the problem. It was simply a quest for power and richness that was ubiquitous to all humans on Earth. Dr. Sowell nailed the distinction - that Europeans had the technological edge, and it made all of the difference.
In short the Spanish fought lacking any honor, like bastards and by some reason they won, probably the reason being that the worthless do not always loose

Correction the Spanish did not convert or try to convert the indigenous people to Christianity but to Roman Catholicism which is not biblical Christianity. Real Christianity is far different from Roman Catholic teachings which is based on a Babylonian religion with Christian words. They didn't go by the Bible, neither do they know the Bible or none of this would have happened this way. That's not God's way, That's not Christianity.
Thank you for pointing that out. One question that is always in mind is this. Is Catholisism one and the same or is Roman Catholicism and Catholicism are separate from one another? I'm not Catholic and not trying to be offensive at all on the subject matter but I always wonder about it at times, especially when I come across those who came from a Catholic/Roman Catholic background who converted to any of the various Christian denominations(Lutheran, Baptist, etc.) who attend non-catholic churches.
If that’s were true, why do a Catholics have Bible study’s or reading from three of more books from the Bible each service they do? If you want to criticize Catholicism and say it is not actually Christian then show it with actually facts not hate speech.
@@xXhiwakaXx Yes Roman Catholicism and Catholicism are the same thing. The religion out of Rome was carried forth and so-called christianized but they kept all their practices and statues and all of that stuff from the Roman empire and then they added to it the traditions of men or the fathers. And that's where you get Roman Catholicism from It is not bible-based like a traditional church for instance like the Baptist or like nazarene's or wesleyans or many of the local churches in your community are bible-based. The Bible needs to be the sole authority upon what the church believes and teaches, The Holy Scriptures is God's authority in the church if it wants to be a Christian church.
@@loganw1232 My words are far from hate speech I care for every Roman Catholic that they would trust Jesus Christ solely as their salvation and not rely on the sacraments of their church but on the finish work of Jesus Christ. it's my hope and prayer for Catholic people, If you want to call that hate you can if you want. Of course they have a Bible but they don't use it They read sections out of it and it's a manipulation of their studies, how can they say they believe the Bible when there's no Pope in the Bible, there's no nuns in the Bible, there is no priesthood as they practice it in the Bible, there's no monks in the Bible, there's no confessional in the Bible, there's no praying to Mary in the Bible, there's no seven sacraments for salvation in the Bible, it's forbidden to pray to a statue in the Bible, it's forbidden to make a statue of anything in heaven in the Bible, I can go on and on and on they do not go by the Bible and you know they don't. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved"
Who cares? It's a name that we all used for centuries. It's not derogatory nor does it carry some kind of deep meaning. It came as a result of the mistaken idea that they'd reached the East Indies and it stuck. People do the same thing to Europeans all the time. People keep referring to the Netherlands as Holland, which is just one small area of the country who took power for themselves. 200 years later, most of us, who are "Dutch", could care less. People gotta quit the nitpicking and concentrate on what's truly important. The nitpickers are the ones that tear communities apart.
Words mean what people think they mean. We still use the term “Caucasian” for anyone of European ancestry despite the Caucuses being a small sparsely populated region of Eastern Europe.
I identify myself as Aymara, around lake Titicaca; is true that in Peru, in Spanish language, Indian is used (very few times) as a pejorative to stereotype us as dirty and brute; nevertheless from English speaking people it is just a neutral way to identify indigenous populations ("Indians Quechua," "Indians Aymara"). In English I would feel bad if I'd get offended to be called Indian, as I have very kind friends from that country. I think very few people care about political correctness besides activists anyway.

Spaniards were very smart on letting this people fight with each other
Of course only Northern Europeans ever get blamed for anything. Especially the English
Wasn't the empire of Genghis Khan much larger than 2000 km in length
1.) Yes, I was thinking about that as well, at the start.
2.) Regardless, talk was of miles, not kilometers.
3.) Also, it's not all about length, surface area matters too.
4.) Speaking of empires, the Romans had something huge going, long before the Mongols.
5.) And even current Russia is huge, area-wise.
6.) Who knows, maybe the Incan empire was gigantic as well. 🤷♀
0:25 The Inca Empire extended to the north to what is now the current border of Colombia and Ecuador ... they DID NOT reach the country of Venezuela.
☹️
The word “colony” is inacurate. The Spaniards incorporated the new territories right away as kingdoms, equal to all other territories of the King such as Castille, Aragon, Navarre, Sicily, Grenade, Naples, etc.
The word colony is more accurate to what happened, than the word kingdom.
(...with less diseases, and so on...)
Which means the Incan (leadership) settlements were in cooler areas, compared with those settled by subjugated tribes.
Atahualpa did not have a prince?
I don't fully understand why the terraced agriculture was abandoned. The newcomers had to eat too right?
I wonder why the Indians didn't have pack animals and draft animals?
With many practical cultures the abstraction of written language is absent. The Quippu is a three dimensional representation of language using COLORED knotted threads. It's use for numerical record was first discovered, more recently its wider use as a general language interpreted. Unfortunately few Quippu exist.
So ancient indigenous peoples had an interesting religious tradition that a white-bearded supernatural man would return someday? Got it.
Well, if you don't believe in Divine Providence, this does appear to be a rather remarkable set of coincidences.

Good ol' English & French racism prevented it.
Victoria, I'm not sure I understand your meaning. (my apologies if it's my fault)
I'm from the US, and we don't generally believe we're the saviors of the world (various people believe various things, I'm sure).
@@darlenemotley5508
My point was that literally all peoples all over the Earth of all religions and backgrounds practice racism, as it's loosely defined today.
It was Hispanics that decimated the natives - not "the white man." ;)
Technically Spaniards are "white"
They were enriched by cultural diversity.
Did you even watch the same video? It was totally the white man, with some help from the natives. “Hispanic” is not a skin color. In this case, they were white.
Hispanic aka Spanish are white aka southern Europeans
Yeah, kinda impossible to rationalize that statement in terms of "White" or "Hispanic" (the definition of which is somewhat nebulous).
The Spanish (and Portuguese to the east / Brazil) were European, and would generally be considered "White", although rather swarthy.
But it's not "whiteness" that caused the problem. It was simply a quest for power and richness that was ubiquitous to all humans on Earth.
Dr. Sowell nailed the distinction - that Europeans had the technological edge, and it made all of the difference.
Pls formulate explicitly the hedious crimes commited by the Maya and the Spanish both

That's why people in our countries don't like protestants, because they show such contempt towards us, our faith, our traditions, etc.
@@loganw1232 My words are far from hate speech
I care for every Roman Catholic that they would trust Jesus Christ solely as their salvation and not rely on the sacraments of their church but on the finish work of Jesus Christ.
it's my hope and prayer for Catholic people, If you want to call that hate you can if you want.
Of course they have a Bible but they don't use it
They read sections out of it and it's a manipulation of their studies, how can they say they believe the Bible when there's no Pope in the Bible, there's no nuns in the Bible, there is no priesthood as they practice it in the Bible, there's no monks in the Bible, there's no confessional in the Bible, there's no praying to Mary in the Bible, there's no seven sacraments for salvation in the Bible, it's forbidden to pray to a statue in the Bible, it's forbidden to make a statue of anything in heaven in the Bible,
I can go on and on and on they do not go by the Bible and you know they don't.
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved"
SURPRISED MR. SOWELL uses the term " INDIANS "???
I think American Indians is still a correct term or categorization.
Because at the time it was the term used. Are you offended like some liberal turd in a Starbucks?
I identify myself as Aymara, around lake Titicaca; is true that in Peru, in Spanish language, Indian is used (very few times) as a pejorative to stereotype us as dirty and brute; nevertheless from English speaking people it is just a neutral way to identify indigenous populations ("Indians Quechua," "Indians Aymara"). In English I would feel bad if I'd get offended to be called Indian, as I have very kind friends from that country. I think very few people care about political correctness besides activists anyway.
