  • Tesla doesn't have a fully autonomous car yet. But, with the addition of Autopilot mode, cruising down the highway is now a hands-off affair.

    Fully autonomous cars are (probably) illegal in most states ATM

    • @kingshanaman
      @kingshanaman 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They shud be illegal. We know that most people will ignore the "always pay attention to the car". They'll take out their smartphones and chatt their way past a red light. A car shud be as good a human being for it to be legal. That's my view.

    • @TerryTerius

      It's currently a gray area. They haven't been specifically banned anywhere because the technology didn't even exist until very recently... but nor are they explicitly legal either. That being said, given all of the enormous potential advantages AV's have, I would be surprised if they aren't legalized within the next few years.

    not to make anything look bad but 2 years ago I drove an Audi A6 with all extras you could buy and it did basically the same... except you had to push one button for it to start driving again because it was not 100% sure there were no pedestrians I think BMW had a system by last year in the 7 series that didn't require that either. So its a good thing to have in a tesla now as well but nothing new.

      That is not the aim of the automated car. Those developing the technology are not trying to made the A.I. system as good as a human being.

    • @03evo30r
      @03evo30r 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +kingshanaman This is by no means artificial intelligence, AI demands the ability to think for itself, if this were true it would make autopilot very unsafe... the aim here is to have a functional open loop control system that effectively reads sensors and reacts in a pre-determmined way. AI would be programming the computer to think for itself.. This would be very scary lol

    what other excuse do i need?....... how about wayyyyyyy too expensive. i absolutely love the car, i test drove it myself, but the amount of payments per month is completely crazy. but i will one day have my own tesla. preferably model x

    • @bW9taeH4
      @bW9taeH4 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      you need to consider the monthly payment for other vehicles, and the amount that you would be spending each month in gasoline. compare that to the monthly payments of a Tesla after your federal tax credit and state rebates if any. when you do that, a $70,000 Tesla might become competitive with a $50,000 car. But after 5 years are up, you will still save thousands of dollars per year by not buying gasoline. It's not an economy car by any means, and it's not something that you can get if you don't have any money. But many people who buy it are buying it instead of 50 or 60 or $70,000 cars not $100,000 cars.

    Will it remember road markings based on GPS location so winter driving isn't affected?

    • @paulwesterberg
      @paulwesterberg 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +525Lines It uses the paths traveled by previous vehicles to improve lane keeping so it will get better over time and work well in situations with worse visibility. Radar can see through snow, but heavy snow obscuring lane markings could cause autopilot to disable itself and require active human control.

    • @525Lines
      @525Lines 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +paulwesterberg Road markings are less likely to be changed in the wintertime where it snows so you'd think it'd record road markings but verify where possible. I'm sure the best autonomous driving program is a decision tree with the cars around you being the highest priority.

    • @liqslip
      @liqslip 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +zombi111980 In those situations it simply tells the driver to take control. There's no situation where it will drive on its own if it's not operating at 100% functionality. For bad weather days or construction zones, the car tells the driver to take over.

    • @zombi111980
      @zombi111980 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You dont get it or? As a Driver of a potential deadly vehicle you HAVE to pay 100% attention. Those stuff animates Drivers to care even less! If you wait for the car to tell you that you have to do something its most of the time to late. People are lazy and will even be more lazier with such stuff. We are talking abaut reality! Not some other fancy dream stuff!

    Men exploit technology. Technology does not choose who/what owns it. Going for a ride - the comforts are good but it does not bring much comfort when accidents occur. Drivers and passengers come in variation but the worst is when there is no drivers/passengers at all. Loaded of jokes or trolls but the car itself maybe adjacent to certain modification for lethal object or toys.
