Yoka-Laylee was not a bad game. However, it wasn't perfect. They wanted too much, forgetting some things on the way. My approach on new games (or new type of games, like Zelda BOTW, in comparison to its predecessors) is that they take more time and more energy then sequals, since they need to make everything from scratch. If developers are planning too much and not calculating the actual time needed to realize said plans, it will have shortcommings.
In my opinion, yoka-laylee was too big in size and had too little to do. Plus, the flying mechanic was too op, the way they've realized it.
(I also had a bug, where I've collected a coin in the casino and it did not count it but the coin was gone.... beating the game 100% and not having it credited.... That was fun too).
Long story short. I've been wanting a real sequal and I want it this time more polished, full and balanced!
We've got Bloodstained, which is an awesome game and a spiritual successor to castlevania (which I love and hate at the same time, since I've got no console) and I wanted this to be great too and it still can be!

No worries, they'll improve the series little by little.
I'm so glad that Yooka-Laylee isn't gone just because Banjo-Kazooie is back, I personally love both equally just as much. All we need now is Conker and the whole crew is together.

@@MikeJackson690 If you are implying Yooka could get in Smash Bros, that is incredibly unlikely due to how poorly Yooka-Laylee performed and due to the fact that Playtonic is an Independent Company, and there are no independent companies in Smash yet, and Yooka is VERY unlikely to be the first. Maybe in like Smash 10, but not any time soon.
Banjo is barely back. Yeah they're in smash but they aint getting a new game
Agga Puff Shovel Knight is already in Ultimate but granted as an assist trophy. I think it’s possible though for Yooka-Laylee to be an echo fighter

I like the direction they took, I think I’m legitimately able to give Yooka-Laylee another chance. The developers seemed to care enough to try again instead of wasting the characters, I’ll definitely be buying this.
Are u actually kidding me. The first game was amazing why is there so much hate for it. I finished it and loved the open world feel. This is such a downgrade, why does everyone like this!?!?!?
@@KaitG99 The first game was the most disappointed I've ever been with a game. You could tell the devs were trying to shake the dust off and get back into the swing of things. I made it hallway through the swamp world and realized that I was still waiting for the game to become fun.
I feel like the scope of the first game was a bit too grand, and this looks _infinitely_ more tight, polished and professional than its predecessor.
What,, by stepping back from 3D to lame 2.5D??
What sense for progression is that?!Very sad;; they were onto something so damned good with the 1st game; the whole point was to make it even more expansive,, even VR compatible if they wanted 'diiferent'

@@yopyopboumboum9505 Don't worry about that,, been playing the finest releases probably before you were born, eg, the actual orgignal Banjo on N64 on it's release. Have written to Nintendo requesting the Lynels in BOTW among many other things, so call what you wish, you ain't changing any of those home-pushing truths around here from your little comments box Mr Emperor with No clothes, lol
This one has more of a DKC feel then Banjo like first game was. Still love it and this still looks great. :D

Now I need a new spiritual successor to "Mystical Ninja starring Goemon 2" (the first one was different than the second one)
Never expected this "spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie" to get a sequel, but the over world animation and puzzles look rather good. The music is great too, obviously the influence of Grant Kirkhope and David Wise.
Grant Kirkhope is the composer, man.

Only because the 3D game was handled so poorly. I'm sure if Playtonic made another 3D Yooka-Laylee and did it right, it would succeed.

Sw/Sh was never meant to be a bump=mapped spectacle, it's better looking than Town and the style suits Pokemon down the ground. And they've improved the visuals; no credible game site is calling this a bad looking game

This is a definite buy for me! I got so excited when I saw the reveal trailer last week. I enjoyed the first game and am glad to see the lizard-bat duo back in a sequel! I'm glad they included gameplay of this in the Treehouse!
I like the idea of an extra hit per level you beat for the impossible lair, that place will probly be super hard!

I like the possible Wario Land inspiration with the stages being effected by changes in the environment. It was more like a proof of concept in Wario Land, tho, and here it really compliments the attempt to make the 3D-adventure-game overworld blend with the 2D-platformer stages. And I also like that you can go straight to the final stage from the get-go. Very Breath of the Wild. I bet this game will be made with speedrunners in mind like Yooka-Laylee was.
The bugs and glitches are to be expected from a demo. Hopefully they'll be fixed up before the game's official release.

This looks so good! It'll probably be the second best stand alone platformer on the switch (after tropical freeze). Would love a release date. HYPED!
I’m gonna be honest, this looks so much better then the original game.
Yooka Laylee's worlds felt pretty empty to me, probably as a consequence of making a big 3D game with admittedly limited resources. This looks a lot better.
Seriously, the level design is a lot more interesting looking this time. Enemy variety looks better too.
The original Yooka-Laylee needed to cut about a fourth to a third of its content at the planning stage with smaller more dense worlds and more focus without half baked gameplay variety in bad minigames. Game would've been shorter but better.
I like Yooka-Laylee, but I definitely agree with you.
Aye, they fixed some of the technical stuff in June, but if shrinking down the worlds was possible, it would be a way more solid experience.
There were debates among the fans over the size of the levels, those who prefer Tooie wanted them big and the opposite group wanted them compact and dense. Playtonic wasn't sure how to go about it.
This is literally Donkey kong country returns/tropical freeze and i'm ALL FOR IT. definitely gonna play this. maybe not at launch though
If only Yooka died then he would have to do some ghost tricks and this would be a whole new game.

yeah, it's as if, you know, the banjo kazooie reveal happened beforehand.
Just got it yesterday. It’s everything I like in a video game and more. Stunning visuals, smooth gameplay, mesmerizing soundtrack and a nice dose of childhood nostalgia. So nice to get whats essentially a new DKC title.
So hype for this and the discussion with Playtonic was really insightful. Glad this was covered
The fact that you can go straight to the impossible lair after the intro level gives me BotW vibes. I hope more games start using this design.
I wonder what the first game was to use this type of structure. I remember Chrono Trigger doing it back when it came out (1995?).

There's a lot I like about this. If I felt like speaking into a microphone, I would make an in-depth analysis.
I'm glad they learned from their camera mistakes from last time and decided to make the game a DKC styled game.

while I don't mind a spin off or two the 3D platformer is a genre that more than deserves more entries

This is NOT a win win. Lost the whole open world feel and we got another trash linear game. Can't believe people like it. I'm actually so mad at this game.
Wow this Game looks so good. Now seems like we got Nintendo and Rareware back. Now we hopefully got a Banjo Kazooie 3D World AAA Platformer resurrection and I'm happy!

Wow the backgrounds have a lot of detail, a lot of 2.5D games end up looking bland and lifeless because of boring backgrounds, but this is looking pretty good.

You probably already knew this but the guys who are making this, Playtonic, is a bunch of the guys who were on the original Rareware and created the first Donkey Kong Country trilogy. This game definitely shows that.

It was recently revealed that the games gonna run in 60 FPS across all platforms. (Including Switch)
Glad they're taking their own route and approach with them and not living up a name compared to Banjo Kazooie
I like that taking a hit makes you lose Laylee. It'd be cool if falling in a pit made you lose Yooka. I'd be curious to see a limited solo Laylee.
It looks so great, a mixture of classic Zelda, Breath of the wild, DKC, DK64 and Banjo-Kazooie.

To be fair. This looks more like Retro's DK than Rare's DK.

I'm actually really interested in this game since it seems to have a heavy DK feel, and considering DK is my favorite platforming series after sonic and crash, this game is high up on my radar.

Looks quite neat! I like the level transformation ideas, basically doubling the game size while actually making it feel like new content. Would like it to be a bit longer, but if it's only about £25 then that's fair. Can't wait to see more, and also does this game have any link to the original? Would like to use those pirate treasures...

I love how they just changed perspectives and cranked out a whole new game that's a mix of Donkey Kong/Super Mario sidescrolling and Zelda-like overworld. Using what they already had in a new way stopped them from taking 5 years to put out something new that actually looks great. Other devs should take notes...
This kind of game fits perfect for Switch specially handed mode on the way. Nintendo is killing it

So I guess the original game did well enough where new game is warranted? For a moment, compare the profit made from Banjo Kazooie to this franchise. Do you think you can make as much money if you worked with Microsoft on bringing back Banjo Kazooie? The answer is yes and I can't wait to see more of Banjo Kazooie :-)

This is looking better than the first game. There's a sense of weight and impact in the character movements and collisions that wasn't there before.
For an indie game this is looking very good! The reveal trailer seemed like a Tropical Freeze clone but now looking at it playing it has more flavor of its own.

I like it. It looks good. But I still hope for a proper Yooka-Laylee/Banjo styled sequel. I know it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but it certainly was mine. Still excited for this though.
I loved the first game too. They already said they want to make a "Yooka Laylee 2", so no worries. It will arrive someday :D

Was initially kind of peeved they weren’t going to make a sequel more in the style of first (but with some quality of life adjustments).
That said, this looks wonderful and I’ve been wanting more of this style of platforming since completing DKCTF. I think a simpler game-style may be what they need. I enjoyed Yooka-Laylee but it was cluttered and confusing.
I had the same initial impression as well, but after seeing this gameplay I'm convinced now that this game has lot of potential to be a great sequel. The concept of a challenging lair and being able to prepare yourself kinda reminds me of the Temple of the Ocean King, from Legend of Zelda the Phantom Hourglass, which I think is an interesting concept. Also, as someone that doesn't have a Wii U or Switch, it will be very welcome to have a 2D platformer in the Donkey Kong Country style for all platforms.

And even if so, I don't think that a smaller project would help this way.
@@Stiv64_ They said as much in the Treehouse stream. And although it may not seem like it these smaller projects help more than one would think. Look at NMH: Travis Strikes Again. Suda likely would have started No More Heroes 3 regardless, but the funds from TSA are allowing him to do things he otherwise couldn't.

As many have said, this looks a lot better than the first game and oh boy the trailer does not sell this game well, replace it pronto! It's just too sedate!

They've taken inspiration from the DK series because, like Banjo Kazooie, the first games inspiration, they created it.
