Very humble, intelligent, talented and well rounded human being. As for his character I think Sithric is so underrated. I’m so glad he doesn’t die (sorry for the spoiler). He’s so loyal, strong, grateful, brave and unconditional to Uhtred. He formed, with Finan, Uhtred’s core support system. Love the show so much I’m rewatching for the 4th time now.

@@thescreenchronicles Yes! They absolutely did. I have never quite watched a show where I was invested and attached to so many supporting characters until The Last Kingdom!! I knew it was special from the very first episode!
Any show that can create an attachment to a character that is only in one episode (Ragnar the Fearless), not only revealing the relationship importance and emotional bond with the main character, but carrying that bond throughout the entire series; reveals the talent of the actors as well as the show writers!
In one episode, Ragnar went from a cruel Viking, to the man who was responsible for the death of our protagonists father, to his slave master, to finally becoming his Father!
They succesfully did this for every character they introduced. They excelled at revealing the complexity of human beings; villans not ever being just evil, but showing why they are villans or why they made the decisions they did. Some villans even became heroes in their own right!!
Forgive my rambling! Television today suffers and it is a rare occurrence to find such a wonderful show that is consistent in quality from beginning to end.

Arnas is such a special person, after watching all the four seasons in like a month or two I felt like watching every interview and behind the scenes with the actors, especially with Arnas, I hope he’ll get more lines and character tropes in the next season

I came across this show after watching Vikings, which I taught was very good up to Season 4, but half way through Season 1 TLK, I was Hooked and this is probably the most underrated show ever, its head and toes over Vikings and even Game of Thrones, the storylines and character development is first class and hopefully it will continue.it shows that you don't need huge over the top battles to deliver a great show, which was the problem with GOT and Vikings who went to over the top battles without any substance to the storyline.

I just love how Arnas played 'Sihtric', from the very beginning (S2E2). Initially I thought that Sihtric was going to betray Uhtred some where down the line but it seems that he proved his loyalty right till the end.

@@thescreenchronicles I honestly think it comes from Alex and how he is a person and the tone he wanted the set to be from the start. He wanted to do this right and give all the actors the freedom to be themselves . Mark and Arnas coming in Season 2 added to the energy on set and off set really helped Alex alot (grant it this is just what I think). The only other set I know that is like TLK is Supernatural. Oh Oh Ozark... yea that's an incredible show! Wendy's brother.... I felt bad for him at the end.

I love that he says that the actors perform as if it's their last day everyday. They way this show is, actors and extras die alot, so it is someone's last day on set almost everyday. I love that they respect each other to give 100% in every scene. I could see it would be easy to "call it in" or be tired with the crazy shooting schedule.

XM Radio is where I get all my metal from. I totally forgot about 12Foot Ninga! I remember when Ghost was a little band. Loved when they played small venues. I actually got to meet them and hang with them on their bus all before they revealed who they were. Anyways nice to flash back to those days.

The minute the Sihtric character started talking (I believe it was when he asked Halig if he could... go relieve himself!) I immediately thought: "Oh, please spare him and make him become an important character!" I instinctively liked him, even though I wasn't sure he could be trusted. It was one of the few things I wished would happen in the show that did happen!
I love his hair and he is a great znd very funny actor. Miss him and the rest of the group. Hope to see them all.soon in season 5

Very wise and spiritual guy. It's great to have an actor who's not just into acting, but someone who's well-rounded, educated and self-aware to explore further. It also helps adding depth to the role and to the entire show. Great casting and I hope he gets more recognition.

I recently discovered The Last Kingdom. For some reason, I thought I wouldn't like it, but when I started watching it, I completely fell in love with it and binge watched all 4 seasons !! ^^ I can't wait for season 5, but your channel is a great way to satisfy my TLK cravings lol After binge watching the show, i've been binge watching all your interviews with the cast and crew. To Arnas: now I know about that scene, my favorite of the whole show, season 4, episode 6 (or end of 5) where the squad is at Aethelfled’s house watching the kids. Stiorra has a plan and the squad hides in various places in Saltwic. The scene where Sitric drops from his hiding spot under the bed with his knife in his mouth. He looks to his left, briefly breaking the fourth wall and moving his eyes just slightly and slyly. That’s what Leslie Nielsonn always did! I don’t know if I explained this correctly, but I just love the subtle humor there.

All the actors looks different to me in real life vs their screen look. It does speak to the awesome job the hair and makeup as well as the director does.

I feel like a broken record when I say that your ability to conduct these marvelous interviews, enables us the to get such an in-depth look at the character and the actor. I was super stoked to hear Arnas say this himself crediting you both for the same. Loved that he also shared what his fellow colleagues are saying about their experience. Good time! It's truly amazing to watch the unstrained flow of the interaction with the guests but also the ease with which you are able to marry themes and instances for each character. In this case, you cast a new light on connections for Sithtric especially when you spoke about his rope skills when he was first captured and how it was softly highlighted again at the tree scene. Truly Dope !! (shoot I'm showing my age lol) Now you have me intrigued to check out this mind-boggling mix of melody you mentioned Colby from Twelve Foot Ninja (Metal, Reggae, and Jazz Fusion). I really love Arnas. He is a very thoughtful and insightful person. And I love how you guys have managed to get so many of the great actors from the show. My wishlist for a future episode, Eva Birthistle. I would love to hear her feelings on Hild (one of my favorite characters). I missed her in season 4. I know it is a stretch; doesn't look like she does much press for TLK.

1:05:52 that is something I relate so hard to. I'm in the Army and I have so many close friends from so many different back grounds. This friend is from Palau, this one is from Detroit, another is a Filipino. We have to have one another back if we want to survive so it creates this automatic bond that you have to trust the person beside you and though I'm female I can totally relate to the bro moments. Had them with my fellow Soldiers. Again wonderful podcast from you guys and I love these characters and so glad I got into this show

Great interview guys! I have been waiting for this--he is so articualte and handsome. How does it happen his English is so fluent? My fave moment of his is when he asks Uthred for permission to marry. I thought that Sihtric needed this --an opportunity for love and family--given his history, so I was glad to hear him confirm this.
Thank you!! Yes we agree, not only a moment that led to some funny threads but it also lends a lot to his character. We loved to hear Arnas say that he’ll think of his family during a battle!
@@thescreenchronicles But did you learn anything about his history in tems of how very fluent his English is? I wondered the same thing about some of the Scandinavian actors too-they even are really down with the slang! They amaze on so many levels. I think Arnas has some projects on the drawing board he didn't share which will bring him to us American viewers again--sure hope so!

Holy crap that's hilarious, I know I'm years late but I recently have been getting into similar country taste and specifically Marty Robbins. Wow that was a trip.
It always kinda baffled me how quickly Uhtred trusted Sihtric considering his genealogy (admittedly I have not read the books so perhaps it is played out differently there). But Sihtric is part of a group of men who were sent to capture Uhtred, Sihtric (though doing it to gain an audience with Uhtred) held a knife to Halig's throat, and pretty soon after that Uhtred starts sending him on spy missions and trusts the info he returns with.
In comparison to Osferth who was the bastard son of Alfred, whom Uhtred at least was in contact with (opposed to Kjartan at the time), and was not a warrior so could have easily been dismissed or even killed if he turned against the "bros". It took Uhtred a LOOONG time to accept Osferth as little more than just a diversion for when the other guys needed to sneak into somewhere.
Thankfully Sihtric turned out to be a solid guy, and has had a HUGE amount of character development since when we first meet him. But damn if I wouldn't be FAR more suspicious of the son of the man who killed my entire family (a guy who is CLEARLY a warrior) than a "baby monk". 😆
Haha you make a good point with the quick trust of Sihtric! Although Osferths piety may have repelled Uhtred a bit at first, which may rationalize that comparison. But thank goodness Sihtric ended up being a good dude! Haha
Had to come to watch this interview again after season 5. When it comes to that particular scene, I think Uthred was also asking Sithric to trust him, because he asked Sithric to lower the sword. I think it sealed their bond. Even Uthred first asking, what is your name, immediately gave me the vibe that Uthred cared for this young man (sniff).
@@KristiinaBerg Yeah, I think if anyone understands "don't judge someone by their family" it would be Uhtred. I haven't seen season 5 yet (some life stuff I need to take care of first), but I look forward to it. Knowing me I'll probably binge it in a week 😆. In the meantime though I've been rewatching seasons 3-4 just to kind of blend the series together.
In the books, Sihtric (only about fourteen in the books) attacks Uhtred along with Tekil and the other Danes. But instead of everyone except Sihtric dying during the fight, several of the Danes are captured and Uhtred fights and kills each one in single combat. Sihtric is the last and the priests want him dead but Uhtred spares him because he is somewhat impressed that Sihtric stops sobbing long enough to look him in the eye and answer his questions. In the books Sihtric is clearly untrained with a sword and shield but he is still determined to die like a man. I think Uhtred also hits Sihtric several times with an iron chain and is again impressed that Sihtric takes it without flinching. Also Tekil speaks to Uhtred before dying and tells him that Sihtric is a good kid. It is not explained in the show but the reason Sihtric hares Kjartan is because Sihtric's mother tried to poison Kjartan and Kjartan fed her to the hounds and then murdered Sihtric's maternal grandparents. He was going to kill Sihtric as well but Tekil begged for Sihtric's life. Uhtred finds all of this out before deciding to spare Sihtric. He also realizes that Kjartan probably has dozens of bastards living in Dunholm so it is not such a big deal for him to trust Sihtric.

I was so happy with the entire series and who survived. i think everything was timed perfectly. Other series get it very wrong. I was worried TLK would try to live up to the standard set by GoT where beloved characters are unexpectedly removed from the story for shock value since it seems to resonate with viewers.
