The fact that she has low stamina yet has a Pawmot a pokemon that evolves by walking alot says so much about her character. She isn't a prodigy, she just loves pokemon and pokemon Battling and through that love she became a champion teir trainer.
Contrast that with a pawmi who has low stamina yet loves to walk and even though it isn't good at it still evolved into Pawmot.
I just find that fascinating.
I really like when Rivals have their own "ace" that's not just the starter. Green, Silver, (maybe Wally), Hau, Hop and now Nemona. It just gives much more personality (plus it's easier to put them into Masters)
I actually find it cute you'd look at how she acts and think "man this girl can not stay still for more than 5 sec must be hell keeping up with her" then you actually see her in motion and she's exhausted on the floor after running for like 5 sec's. Another part of her character I find cute is how she acts when she's at someone elses house arven assumed that because she's rich she's like a princess with nemona denying the allegations yet when she's at your house she's the politest out of the three and even the way she sits makes her look like a princess
@@lightyoshiman She's mannered but she's still the black sheep of her family since she's not the heir to the business.
Thank you, shes a Trainers Trainer!

@DanielPereira-ey9nt tbh i kind of get it with rose because his character was axed by the insane crush the devs had to go through
Nemona is just the Pokemon version of Goku. And Goku isn't a creepy stalker, he's just a bit dumb and likes fighting way too much! So neither is she.
@@doubl2480 Nemona would totally heal a terrifying foe that could destroy the world if she thought she could get a good fight out of it

THANK YOU! I genuinely have not been a fan of the "Yandere Nemona" meme, especially with it causing people to not understand Nemona's character. Yes some of her dialogue reads a little possessive, but that’s just from her wording and phrasing.
A thing I really like about Nemona is that throughout most of the game's main story, Nemona isn't even our rival... yet. She was acting as a mentor to us, she wants to us to help us grow. Not only she chose to start her journey over again, but she also chose the starter WEAK to ours and even builds a whole new team because she sees potential in us. She ONLY asks us to be her rival AFTER we defeated Geeta, when we're on EQUAL footing to her. This is somewhat reflected in every other battle we had with Nemona, in her intro animation the camera's always looking up at her, but in her Champion battle the camera is on her eye level to symbolize how you're finally at her level. (in her eyes)
Why did Nemona chose us to be her rival? Not only because we're someone new (in-universe) and someone she sees potential in. But we aren’t someone who views her as “Nemona the Battle Wiz”, but as “My friend Nemona”. She’s finally happy to have a friend who loves Pokemon battling as much as her and is willing to go at it with her and I love the way she almost cry’s tears of excitement after you beat her going all out, she was genuinely very proud.
Jesus Christ what's with the three point essay? Why do y'all care? She isn't real, and the Death of the Author is. Let people have fun, for Christ's fucking sake.

I will not stand for the Nemona slander. She is not a Yandere she's just a lonely girl who wants friends who can keep up with her and ends up with the best friend group in Pokemon
To me, Nemona was far more like a big sister rather than a stalker.
what is a yandere ?
@@darrellholland-ry2tg a person that would kill for love
@@darrellholland-ry2tg typically a crazy girl who usually obsesses or stalks you to the point that boarders beyond worship and in some cases will kill others whom get in the way of that or are extremely likely to get so possessive that if they cannot have you they will and could kill you if it meant keeping you forever. Granted there are different degrees of the troupe itself some of which are humerous and others that are well creepy or just plain grotesque depending on the material. Nemona isn't like that even though there are lines that one can assume she is. I just got very lonely vibes as a result of her upbringing and her well champion status. She is also awkward in that way because she gets over excited that there is someone who can keep up and surpass her despite her status which is wanted she wanted most. Thats what I find most endearing about her.
Got censored because of a word ,but the gist of a yandere. Think possessive stalker, whom takes way too far in that obsession. Nemona is not that at all by the way even if it can come off that way with her dialogue. She is lonely and thats where that stems from because she is seen as a prodigy and raised with that silver spoon being from a well off family.
Nemona is basically the player who did everything in game and has nothing else to do but new game plus but this time gets someone who can be an actual challenge to her.
Plus it's lonely at the top and holding back to battle anyone can drop the fun of battling. Sure she's kinda clingy but I'm sure most of us would love to have a rival that can actually keep up with us
Especially when wavy hair is champion and she sucks
i love how people complain about there being too much dialogue in pokemon then turn around and completely misinterpret well developed characters bc they refuse to read. nemona deserves better

Nemona is absolutely the perfect definition of the entire message of the Pokémon franchise. It's not about winning or losing. It's about all the connections and friends you make and what you gain from those experiences.
The real treasure was the friends we made along the way
This is the mumbo jumbo the game tries to forcefeed you while also literaly stopping the story or breaking the rules of pokémon itself just so YOU can always win
@Thedawg2604 That's cause it's supposed to build on HER character, not your own.
The reason she's so excited for you to beat her by the end of the story compared to any other moment is cause she can be herself and unleash her full power against someone that can match her.

Seeing how much taller Nemona is than Hilda makes me wonder how tall she is in comparison to other characters
I love Nemona, definitely my favorite rival maybe ever. I love that she's friendly, but also competitive. Unlike Blue and Silver, she's not an asshole but is still super competent. And unlike most other friendly rivals (barring Barry), she doesn't feel like a total pushover.
Nemona has been one of the best rivals we've ever gotten, I really wish we could see her and the rest of the gang way more in Scarlet & Violet...

She’s a hard worker, and supportive of friends. Not everyone can get a read on her, so they often see her the wrong way. Even if she loses, she just wants to have fun.

Nemona is a girl with undaignosed AuDHD whos treated like an add on by her own family and is excited that there's someone that, for once, isn't offput by her special interest of Pokemon batting.
I feel this in my core as a someone seeking therapy hopefully towards a diagnosis and who has a bunch of AuDHD spectrum friends, yea this is what it feels like when you just so happened to find that thing that is loved that they could talk endlessly about. The biggest reason I think it feels awkward and yandere esque is because the game has her coming in at random times rather than just being with you the whole time as a companion. I know Pokemon doesn't really do that so they weren't going to do that now, but because she just shows up without the game so much as saying you contacted each other makes it seem like she's following you around.
Would've definitely wanted her tagging along with me though :(( She seems so fun and I'd love a buddy who's having as much fun as me on my journey
Good analysis. She definitely has more depth than she is portrayed as having in fanon. I still think of her though as "battle me" in a nutshell though at least as her main thing (even mentioned at 0:31 ) even though yes, there is more to her than that.
I enjoyed her character so much. She really is a change of pace when it comes to Rivals
YES! THANK YOU!
I am so tired of Nemona being depicted as a creep by fans!
I mean I get her actual character but the misinterpretation is funny
I think nemona probably has some kind of crush on the main character, but the fandom just took that idea and made it jump the sharpedo
Probably my favorite Friendly Rival. Who's more Rival than Friend similar to Cheren from Black/White only I prefer her personality more, plus the fact she downgrades to a Starting Pokémon to help you become the Best Trainer she can fight. Still like the Yandere like tendencies she has. 😁
Everyone that thinks that she just wants to constantly battle and NOTHING ELSE, you missed everything else about her that makes her great. I'm so glad you made this Gator.
Headcannons isn't necessarily a bad thing but when it gets out of control - it may lead to a MASSIVE misunderstanding.
Nemona is one of my favourite characters in the series and I love that idea that she's so powerful nobody but main character usually wants to battle with her. She deserves a hug.
headcannons are worst in other places
She’s similar to Goku if he was a girl, and a Pokémon trainer instead of a martial artist, it’s great, and I love Nemona she’s an incredible character!
I’ve always thought of Nemona being neurodivergent personally. She has such a high passion for Pokémon battling and knows so much that in my perspective, I’ve always interpreted it as being her special interest. And of course, similarly to myself, she wants to share her special interest with others. She wants to be able to show her one good friend how amazing something is, but sometimes comes across as obsessed or pushy, hence why people may be scared or deterred by her being around. Also, in complete honesty, she’s definitely my favourite rival.
Canon Goku: "I want to fight to have fun with everyone, and also be able to protect my friends when it comes down to it!"
Fanon Goku: "Hey Zeno, you better destroy these universes if they don't give me a good enough fight 👹👹👹"
Seem familiar?
Fans _hate_ Flanderization, but through frequent hyperbolization of a character's dialogue and actions through jokes, memes, etc, the Flanderization of a character within a fandom is inevitable. The only way to avoid being caught up in fandom Flanderization and taking it as canon is to check up on the _actual_ canon every once in a while, and take everything at face value without bias from fandom-only content.
Nemona is just your typical rival character who is REALLY excited to be a typical rival character
Nemona was a great character in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
I remember skimming through one playthrough of Violet where the guy made an assumption about the Fairy Team Star Admin, then mashed through the following cutscene that showed how the opposite was true.
I feel like things like that being commonplace leads to a lot of misunderstandings of what some characters are actually like. That, and some people not wanting to analyze characters they find annoying. Looking at you, Hop.

I always liked Nemona. Sure she's combat addict, but it comes off as "Oh someone said yes?! I might finally have someone that can challenge me!" than anything else. She's very enthusiastic about everything she does. She comes off as a rival too, not the mean kind, but the one that wants to hoist you up to their level. It's just S&V need a bit more time in the oven lol
As her #1 fan THANK U FOR SAYING THIS, shes so mischaracterized by the fandom but they dont even try see her character in depth at all! Shes much more than a battle lover or whatever, shes not a stalker or anything, she just wanted a friend to battle and give her best against!!! I hope more people see this video and maube understand her a bit more
I love Nemone, my autistic best friend.
Raise your hands if you're a Nemona fan.
A good way to summarize Nemona is indeed to think of her as a female Goku. She lives for the thrill of Pokemon battles, and she would rather beat you at your best.
Im pretty sure the yandere thing is just a meme lol
I love Nemona's charecter so much! I find her energetic personality and constant requests for a Pokemon battle to be very cute. I never once looked at Nemona as a so-called Yandere but rather she's just lonely and wants someone to truly challenge her so she can be herself! 💚🍊
I hope Nemona makes an appearance in the next arc. She should be able to have fun at the street festival with Liko and co.
Yes! Oh my gosh! I can't stand the Stalker Nemona jokes. I wasn't expecting to fall in love with Nemona the way I did. She's just a teenage girl! She reminds me so much of being a kid sitting alone at the lunch table bc you scared people off talking about your special interest. She doesn't even battle you as much as the other rivals, she meets you where you are on your level, and her joy when you beat her is so, so infectious. All along, she was just looking for a friend, for someone to truly understand her, and she found that with us! She's essentially what WE are, after we beat mainline pokemon games and there's nothing else to do. And I really love how she struggles with the weight of other people's expectations at 3:19! It breaks my heart but its refreshing to see her frustration and honesty, how she TRULY feels. She's easily my favorite rival!
Thanks for making this I was so tired for Nemona being misportrayed. I also didn't know that bit about her not being fit, neat!
I love Nemona and everything about her.
Oh my goodness, yes! The reason she’s a little clingy is because she’s not used to having friends! She’s not a freaking yandere! She works hard, and it got her where she is. The mischaracterization of her is SO frustrating. She’s just a fun bestie who’s lonely and misunderstood by her peers, but works hard on the thing she loves (like having low stamina and a Pokémon that evolves by walking a lot).
Problem with that is many people stop after the beat the main game and the credits role (you becoming champion) so they wouldn’t have done the area zero storyline where those characteristics of her are told.
Nemona wants to battle literally everyone she comes across. She just is hyped to battle the player because the player looks like someone she could one day go all out on. And she eventually does.
Sucks the Pokémon series ended with Ash. Him and Nemona would be the best rivals!
ok so i totally understand nemona isnt a stalker or yandere, but i still think its funny to occasionally joke about it.
Same
We've only had one yandere in this series and it's Volo. And he's yandere for Arceus, not us.
I admit I thought Nemona was kinda creepy at first but as i got to know her and understand why she's like that, i wanted her to be my friend for real.
I'm not sure what her gender has to do with that though. People hate upbeat rivals. The ones you compare her to, Barry and Hau, are wildly hated. And Cynthia is one of the most loved characters in the franchise.
An issue i think is that when everyone is talking about their families in the crater, the text goes REALLY fast. I was having trouble keeping up with it and I'm a very fast reader. And combine that with how people (stupidly) skip the story in these games (my siblings in Arceus you are playing a JRPG) it leads to a lack of anyone reading fast text.
I love how in the epilogue she was able to train a largely brand new team up to championship level in a matter of DAYS. In the midst of what's effectively a zombie outbreak.
@@BJGvideos
I feel so validated with that JRPG comment.
Also wait, Barry's widely hated? I knew Hau was divisive, but Barry?
Did something change in the fandom or was I missing something?
@@matts5747 Barry is generally seen as annoying and abrasive. I think people conflate him with his anime version. At least other versions of him like Pearl and Jun have different names, but Barry is seen as the same character.
It's totally a JRPG and people need to accept that! They're playing a game in a very story-heavy genre and for some reason they still think of the story as an excuse plot like it was in gen one. Which itself was only a limitation of the Game Boy.
@@BJGvideos
Those complaints towards Barry are understandable even if I don't agree with them.
Still, to me growing up, it felt like Barry was one of the more popular rivals. Did BDSP have anything to do with it?
On a more positive note, Pearl is a decently interesting adaption of Barry. While he's my least favorite of the Sinnoh Dex holders, he's still great. One thing I do like about him is being the son of Palmer is played into his battle process. I also really like his friendship with Dia and how that develops
I'd honestly like to see him interact with his game counterpart
@@matts5747 I don't know. I think the fandom turned against him before BDSP. I know he was liked at first. But again I really think it was the anime that did it.
We need manga characters in Masters! They had anime characters so why not? @@BJGvideos
Oh right! It could happen in Masters!
I know apparently there are some Pokémon Adventures references in Masters but having one of the characters would be interesting. Although I have to wonder if for the Dex holders, an issue might be distinguishing them from their game counterparts. Someone like Ruby or Violet wouldn't have this problem, but by comparison I'd imagine Black, Casey, or even Dia might have issues.
Ah someone else who read Diamond and Pearl Adventure!
Also if I have the right character on Bulbapedia, your referring to the character from Magical Pokémon Journey right? Never heard of that series until now.

@@Dusxio it comes up during the conversation in the crater, and her Day With event in Masters focuses on it.
I've always seen her in the Goku mold, but in the good way. She's strong because she enjoys battling and just wants another person who gets that. And the player character does get that, you buy the game to catch cool Pokemon, battle, trade, and explore.
She's the new game plus veteran getting the noob up to speed and then enjoying the game again when you hit her level.

What planet have you come from where Cynthia is not the most incessantly praised character in the entire series?
It’s actually making me unreasonably annoyed that your insinuation is that Cynthia is somehow mistreated when people never ever ever stfu about how cool and powerful she is. The Undella Town joke is the most overused meme of all time and hinges entirely on thinking Cynthia is badass and intimidating.
Whitney gets sadistic at best and that is a harmless joke about the brutality of her fight relative to her presented demeanor. How is it correlated to her gender even remotely? Would people not make the exact same jokes if you swapped Whitney to some crybaby boy?

You know, it's almost like a majority of Pokémon can't understand character depth and stop at their first impression of these characters, as if it's all there is to them. Just look at the way they treat characters like Kieran, Zinnia and, well Nemona.
But yeah, Pokémon should really stop forcing us to say yes all the time. It's true with Nemona, but especially with Kieran, with the infamous scene where they force you to lie to him, which I still hate being forced to do, even if his character is incredible.

This is a conversation that's pretty much present in every fandom. The meme template of the "serious character canon vs. lovable scrungo fanon" exist for a reason. At the end of the day it's a topic that is best leave it as is because no matter how much you try to explain a character to someone they will most likely either: A) They already know, they are just having a little fun just noting and amplifying traits of a character to comedic proportions just for fun (like I usually do) or; B) They legit don't really care about YOUR interpretation and they will cover their ears just so that their confort character remains being gay or something.
One of my favorite things about Nemona is how people react to her. I enjoy her character but it's hard to deny that she isn't a bit overbearing (even with the context of why). One of my favorite little details is at the end of her and the player's final battle, Nemona's geared up for round 2 and everyone just has an exasperated look on their face. It seems like Nemona lacks connection not only because people see her as untouchable but also because people see her as too much to handle personality wise. And then I come in share in her interests and like how much she likes it. Of course she would be over the moon. I fully admit, that one yes or no section and some of the dialogue painting it as she's following you instead of running into you like other rivals would does influence the meme a bit. I'm not gonna be someone who says that that it just popped out of the blue. I will say though, even with her simplicity, Nemona is one of my favorite rivals and one of my favorite things that came out of SV.
she's definitely my favourite rival, with arven and barry as a close second
Nemona literally convince clavell to give her a another starter.
Abandoned her old champion team.
Reset her team to only a starter.
Push the player in a force rival friend to battle all the time.
She kinda doesn't get obvious social cues.
Nemona’s a fun rival. She’s the perfect blend of tough and friend rivals of the past. Funny story, in my Violet playthrough, by complete coincidence, half of our teams ended up as the exact same. We both had a starter (Meowscarada is the one I see her use in media, so it counts), a Goodra, and a Pawmot. Made my encounters with her feel that extra bit special as we were truly trying to outdo each other every time

I remember when she asked the protagonist to be their rival for life i thought " did she just propose?"
I like Nemona. It is refreshing that the main battler rival is a set female, not dependent on the player being male.
Nemona is awesome, one of the best 'friend rivals' there is in the series
(1:46) I don't think Pokémon fans are against strong female trainers that offer the players a challenge. It was the insane difficulty spike that made players grumble. When the player fights Red, they know this is going to be the fight of their lives.
Nemona is more like Yunyun from Konosuba than a yandere
A girl desperate to have friends
absolutely love the cool big sis mentor/rival dynamic 😭 hope we learn more about her parents/sister someday. SV has so many amazing characters, idk how next gen will top it
I love them all and she isn’t a yandere she is just a person who really likes to play singles
Nah, if you look at her answers when you say no they get more and more unhinged and eventually goes full caveman. She is NOT letting you go.
I actually do understand that she's not a yandere like some people believe, I just like to joke about her being a yandere because I think it's fun, but I do like her as a character.
I really enjoyed Nemona in the game she brought sm energy and comedy to the game
Okay, so a hot take here, I think Nemona looks way better in Violet. It's the Uva Academy uniform that does it, really adds to her in ways the Naranja Academy uniform just doesn't.
I feel the opposite
Honestly I find the people who say "Nemona is boring for being another friendly rival" over people who meme about her being a yandere. Though both are annoying
My first impression of Nemona was as something of a Senpai character, a helpful upper-class student willing to teach the newbie player (in-universe) the intricacies of Pokémon battling. While I get a kick out of the jokes about Nemona's potential stalking, Nemona-senpai will always be how I see this high ranking friendly rival (better than Hop and Calem, and slightly above Hau, with Hugh's cool factor being the only thing keeping him above her).
1:52 idk man people LOVE cynthia including me. I've never seen anything thing she's crazy just that their "Scared" of her cause she beat their asses when they where kids, She's probably a lot of peoples #1 champion.
Great video but idk why you used Cynthia as an example when Cynthia is literally praised within the Pokemon fandom and not even Whitney from what I’ve seen is just “hated” more because of her Miltank. I Don’t think the three are even in the same situation.
Nonetheless, people do heavily miss characterize her mostly cause they may skip the dialogue or dumb down her character to one thing which does get annoying. People need to learn to pay attention cause the small details really do a lot as well
Did your argument a disservice by using one of the most popular and most praised characters in the franchise as a “people hate them cause they’re strong and female” point. Obviously there is misogyny in the Pokemon community but Cynthia is regarded highly by the majority. Obviously the better one was with the rivals point cause while they battle for different reasons, they do in a way serve the same purpose and every rival shows up to where you are in the story. Barry, hop, hau, blue, etc all do this but yet nemona is a problem.
Nemona might honestly be the best rival in the series imo. She just wants a friend. Someone who can keep up with her. And as the new person who doesnt know her as rhe champion ranked trainer she is. She can be more open and friendly with you. Shes a great character.
Honestly, Nemona is a refreshing character. There's nice story development in these SV characters and her enjoyment of battles is something I can relate to 😅 I didn't really have anyone growing up who liked pokemon, and even now my excitement for pokemon is something I don't tend to share anymore
If there's any way that I would accurately describe Nemona, it's that she's like Goku if Goku was a Pokémon trainer. She likes battling a lot, she cares about her friends, she's well-meaning but has no filter sometimes, she strives to be better every day, and she is generally in a cheery mood. She may not be book smart, but she is a savant when it comes to Pokémon battles.
Ok but
zoning in a single trait of a character and dialing up to eleven for a cheap laugh that ends up becoming a meme and deconstructs their personality into a joke?
Not the first time it happened
Nemona deserve more love. While Ardyn is the best rival character development side and Penny was the most interesting (even though she's not great of a character in my opinion) Nemona deserves better. She doesn't need a tragic backstory, she's a lonely top trainer trying to find someone who enjoys battling but also someone to befriend. As a result I relate to her and I don't understand why everytime a female character is happy they're "too childish" or "too stalkerish". (Though to be fair I'm getting tired of the "Dorky" trope in media.) Nemona is not a dork. She's herself and basically a kind person who excitable but not too excitable. She reminds me of Papyrus from Undertale, both don't have the deepest backstories they are designed to be your friends. No whether or not you wish Nemona had deep backstory is up to your opinion. But overall Nemona deserves a chance and more love. She is the friendly rival trope done right and while I wish her battles were hard, at least she was more fun than Hau or Hop. (Sorry Hop)
@@IAmBored347 Nemona does have a pretty sad backstory insofar as her parents ignore her in favor of her older sister, since her sister is set to succeed them in business.
I think she's a great rival. And I can't get enough of her battles
Nemona has always just felt like a typical shonen protagonist to me. Just loves to fight.
Oh, I understand her, the memes are just funny.
As a major fan of Nemona who really sympathizes with her, since we both love Pokémon battling and want to share it with others, I still think that while she isn't a yandere, the devs definitely put her more "possessive" lines in there as an intentional joke. And her being sympathetic yet a bit obsessive in a funny way can coexist.
Your point on sexism felt a bit too much though. People hate Whitney (And Clair) because she throws a tantrum after an already hard fight. People joke about Nemona but it's all in good spirits, and NOBODY hates Cynthia so I don't know why you used her as an example. Not to mention the fact that people have also been making creepy stalker memes about rivals like Hop and Trace for years already. And I've seen Lance and Leon get way more hate than Cynthia (seriously, why use Cynthia as an example??) for their characters, too.
But yeah, while many people (myself included) like joking about Nemona being socially off, the game itself does it a lot too (need I mention her battle in Mochi Mayhem?) and it's not meant to dismiss her as crazy. It's just that if she was just a played-straight depressed champion and buddy-buddy rival, she wouldn't be as interesting as she is now, and would probably be relegated to the same fandom indifference like the many other bland nice rivals. Her small funny character flaws are why she's liked!
Yeah I don't get how Cynthia falls into that at all. Also other cheerful rivals get hate too, including his other examples of Barry and Hau.
yeah this whole video seems like a big yikes. tempted to unsub
@@polocatfan The only thing I really saw as a yikes was attributing dislike to sexism.
The closest thing to that I could see is people being terrified of Cynthia after getting jumpscared in the Undella Town house.
to be honest here not only do I agree about Cynthia not being a good example of a female being hated on I think she's overrated as a character
She looks like a sister to me when I play as Juliana. But she's the other way around when I'm Florian.
1:50 yeah, because we didn't make fun of Gary fkn Oak/ Blue for about two decades...
@@ZingoBananaa he also forgets that Steven was characterized as a creepy stalker as well.
@@BJGvideos pretty sure Hop, Hau and Barry have been slapped with the "stop following me around" label a couple of times as well
@@ZingoBananaa Totally. Yeah, I don't think that characterization of her is necessarily rooted in sexism.
finds you via smell, proceeds to find you later
NEMONA ROCKS, I LOVE NEMONA
When are the earliest things that I remember for "Nemona being a yandere" replacing hers with Monika's from ddlc (and slightly changing them to fit Pokemon, of course) and then somebody made art of Nemona over act 3 Monika
Beyond the memes, she is great. Sometimes people riff on the rivals. Although it seems extreme in this case since of the three on-going stories, SV only has one consistent battling rival. Last game had three others enter the overall competition. Here, we are back to one who also is already at champion level.
They did the same to Gloria. Turned her into a cockney accent girl who constantly drinks and swears.
Gloria at least doesn't have a canon personality. Nemona does
You mean, Scottish?
1:51 "Admit it, this Miltank almost made you quit pokemon" You mean the Miltank I beat on my first try? No not really.
My fave character in the game series.
NEMONA ISNT A YANDERE SHE'S GOKU!!!!!!!! (and autistic)
