Respect Emma's acting skills. Little known fact; she provided voice-over work in a vid game, back in a day.I have a voice acting background and have to say she nailed it. The vocal training itself for me was really tough, sometimes without noticeable results for months but artists like her are a great impulse to not give up. PS. You almost saw me as Leon in those new Resident Evil games :)
I love watching the shows on this channel but I have to say something about harloff. I grew up in the early 2000s where we would talk about each others mommas and roast each other in different manners. I like to think I have pretty thick skin. Every show harloff comes out complaining about how everyone is soft now and how everyone gets offended so easily but I think harloff is kinda sensitive as well because he lets every comment get to him making him look soft as well and then he uses his platform to complain everyday about others. Harloff has to look himself in the mirror and admit he’s a bit of a hypocrite regarding the others being soft take. Just my observation 🤷🏽♂️

This was such a classy, professional awards show. Yeah, some jokes did not land but everything looked wonderful and it did not feel sluggish. I loved that RDJ did his peace sign gesture. It felt so Tony Stark lol

I don't see a problem with the political speeches. It's their time and they can say whatever they like. If I don't want to listen to it I just change the channel. Great show today.
Cord Jefferson had my favorite speech. Also loved Jennifer lamé’s( editor of Oppenheimer) speech and all the acting win speeches. Christopher Nolan had the most bad ass moment of the night though. This guy got to receive his first Oscar from Spielberg arguably the greatest Director of all time. gives a great speech also, and then gets to walk off the stage to the pirates of the Caribbean theme. What a legend

I prefer the clips during the reading of the nominations as it acts as an ad for the movies and may get people to watch them later.

There’s a difference between the unnecessary political speeches of many years ago and the very necessary political speeches of last night. When a Ukrainian director wins an Oscar for his doc about the war, he has to talk about it. Same with Glazer and Gaza. He’s a Jewish man who made a holocaust movie and he stood up for innocent lives.
You're not the arbiter of what is and isn't a necessary speech. Glazer came off like a Hamas apologist. Being political at the Oscars is why they've become so much less relevant.

I knew I was in for a great show about the Oscars which I couldn't watch, but still learning about the wins and the show in general based off the news it generated I knew would make for some great conversation on The Big Thing! I don't get why people want to complain about what's no interested to them who need to learn to stop wasting their time if they don't like it. I totally agree that the politics should also stay out of it because that's not what its about. It's about recognizing and celebrating the best of film when it comes right down to it and what I loved the most about this years awards was that not only did GMO get nominated which was already a big deal for Takashi Yamazaki and the crew, but they actually won the Oscar which Takashi seriously took to heart and has the utmost gratitude to America for the love that it got that being so beautiful to see.

I am going back to Dune 2 for a second showing tonight. Going to see it in IMAX with a laser projector. Not sure what that means but its got me hyped.

Kimmel might’ve talked to RDJ before the joke. As the show was ending with the Oppenheimer crew on stage after winning Best Picture, Kimmel and RDJ were seen hugging and being friendly as the credits rolled.

Dune’s 2nd weekend drop was 44%. Which is a great. Shows that it has some legs.

It is trailing just behind Oppenheimer and tracking for around 750 million total. That would be an absolutely phenomenal outcome considering the nature of the movie.
My biggest problem was just trying to stream the damn show. We cut cable and have basic Hulu but why can I watch the oscars THE NEXT DAY! Why can't I just watch it day of ?! I feel like more people would watch the show rather than talk about it days after it already hit headlines

I don't see many similarities between Star Wars and Dune. The big 3 I always see pointed out are 1. Spice, 2. Desert Planet and 3. Princess
1. Spice - Spice is an integral part of the Dune lore and plot. In Star Wars spice is a drug that is referenced in passing once, maybe twice. It could be categorized as an easter egg.
2. Desert Planet - Herbert didn't invent the desert setting and, while I'm not 100% certain, I doubt he invented the idea of a whole desert planet. Star Wars also has lots of planets shown and only the first 3rd of the first movie is set on Tatooine with the rest being in space.
3. Herbert didn't invent the idea of a princess. If so then Mario is copying Dune. Plus, Princess Leia is nothing like any of the princesses featured in Dune or it's sequel books.
Lastly, just as Star Wars took inspiration from Dune, Dune takes much inspiration from Judeo-Islamic-Roman history and religions. Dune is the story of humanity that has been told throughout time, it may have been the first instance of this story being told in a futuristic sci-fi setting but the point remains the same. You can love Dune and Star Wars, and you can the Prince of Egypt and Gladiator too! LOL
That was one of the best Oscar shows I've seen in quite a while. My only problems with it were how the In Memoriam segment was handled, not just for the reasons you guys mentioned, but I also didn't like how they just put the rest of the names in that circular screen as an afterthought. That was very disrespectful. They could've simply put them on those tall vertical screens like they did with some others. Sure, it would've made the show longer, but so be it. The 2nd problem I had was Zone Of Interest winning Best Sound. Are you fucking kidding me? In what world does that movie have better sound than The Creator and Mission: Impossible 7? That's bullshit. And the 3rd thing would have to be the Best Picture award. The way Pacino did it wasn't great, but the show itself didn't even go through the nominees like it usually does. That was very bizarre. Other than those few things, the show as a whole was awesome. Definitely a memorable one for sure.
What would the shots at Damon have been?
Really don't like the five winners coming out and gushing over the nominees. Surprised they went back to it. Announce nominees, show clips, announce winner.

I highly disagree, dune 2 had a 44% drop week one to two. Which is an amazing drop. So it’s going to have very solid legs. I have to see week 2 for for Kung Fu Panda before I can get an understanding of its leg. But I think dune going to have better legs
I don't understand oscar's screenwriting rules, why is barbie an adapted screenplay (yes it is an IP but the story is not adapted from anything) and maestro (a *biopic* ) is an *original* screenplay..? It is bizarre, like i GET it, but it seems so weirdly idiosyncratic.
Also I would have preferred lily win over emma personally but obviously congrats to her (I thought she was better in The Curse personally) but... you know when bohemian rhapsody won the editing oscar that one year not really because it was the *best* edited but because it was the *most* edited? That is how I feel about the performances in poor things, and I say that as a big fan of The Favourite, it is always frustrating how loud is valued more than nuance a lot of the time. But that's just me, congrats to their wins though (i think barbie should have taken production design and poor things costuming personally). Also shoutout to Glazer man i wish Mica Levi would get nominated for their work with him already the ost for Under The Skin is honestly one of my favourite of all time.
It's too bad to hear that Three Body Problem is getting divisive reviews because it's a show that you'd love Kristian! It's a wacky, thought provoking sci-fi story that you usually enjoy. It's like Dune world building mixed with Interstellar's plot and weirdness but on crack 😂 It deserved a good adaptation especially for how much it cost. Netflix blew it sounds like lol

Kids movies always going top whatever if kids already love it. Most of animated films and shows we watched back then if you see them now makes no sense now. Kung fu Panda might drop next week. Kids attention don't last that long but if we're going into Spring Break it's going to stay in top 5

Totally with you Kristian. The RDJ stuff was totally cringe. The Emma Stone joke too. It looked like she mouthed " he's a prick" after the joke about not being able to show footage. Tried to be Ricky Gervais and fell flat on his face. I was also hoping for a Paul Giamatti win. I'm Australian, so I have no dog in the US political fight. I just wish they'd leave the Trump jokes out of it. I watch movies to escape that stuff for the most part.

Yeah the Lilly Gladstone Emma stone thing…. I did not like poor things. My review of it below but I can get why Emma stone won it. I know that to act on history that hurt your people’s culture takes WORK and should be commemorated. But at the same time Emma stones acting…. Just required her to relearn how to act like a human. I would have preferred some love to Lilly gladstones performance but I also can’t stand when white people specifically say “it would be great for representation” … to me when I hear that I just hear white people saying, it would make me feel better about my place in all this. Idk man
And poor things lives in the details on a high bar but the sun of those amazing details, like acting, costume, sets, is a film too eager to be quirky and bold and use those details to entertain that it didn’t notice how annoying the film can be
I don’t know why all these people are clamoring for Gladstone to have gotten an Oscar. A lot of times minorities getting an Oscar is like a death sentence to their careers. You never see them in anything of significance after they get that stupid trophy.
