Honda Goldwing😂😂
About battery terminals and cable clamps, always clean them to bright metal and apply a simple, basic unfilled wheel bearing grease BEFORE clamping back together. What this does is prevent moisture and oxygen seeping into the tiny spaces between battery post and clamp, which is where all corrosion begins. Excess grease is squeezed out and can be wiped off when done. I've been doing this for over 40 years and check annually, the posts and clamps are always still shiny.
The only thing tougher than a Chevy is a Bible. Amazing how the Bible on the front bumper survived the weather for nineteen years. Maybe that is where they put the keys.
The only thing tougher than a ' Chevy ' is a really really pissed off Bear ! ! Happy Trails from 🇨🇦 to the 🇺🇸 . ✌ out
That terrifying moment when you think "2005? That's not that long ago, the truck looks ancient" and realise 2005 is almost 20 years ago 😮
Also, that truck was kinda old in 2005. That's just when it was abandoned.
My guess is around a 1976 model. I hope they tell us what year it is when they find out.
nope, headlights would be round in 76, those are rectangles. 1980 to 87
Oliver to Mom and Dad...."Can I have a truck"...here you go son. :)
I'm not sure. Perhaps he prefers the dozer 😄😄
Wow, I would love to buy that truck! My first new vehicle was a 1980 chevy pick up. It even had the bug deflector, minue the Jesus words.
Would be better than my 78 Toyota car I started with
Uh...I meant the Chevy, not the Courier.
SQUAREBODYS. RULE😅😅😅😅
very cool ....40 year old truck left abandoned for 20 years starts, runs, and drives.......impressive
They sure do not make them like that any more!!
it runs on 20 year old fuel?
If it had stabilizer it would and no water got into the tank.
@@GT500ShlbyI'm wondering if gas from 20 years ago had less/no ethanol which really helps with moisture rejection?
@@GT500Shlby Stabiliser does not last 20 years,
I bought a house a couple of years ago with a 76 GMC high sierra in an old building that was growed up around with a bunch of weeds around it. The older couple that owned the house passed away so we bought the place from their daughter. She never said a word about the building or a truck. After we closed on the house I was peaking in the window of the shop and spotted the truck. I nearly had a heart attack because I'm a life long gm fan. I didn't have a key so I got an ignition switch for it like you did here. I had it running in a couple of hours. The truck had been sitting since 2003. It's hard to explain how cool it is to see one of these being brought back to life after sitting for two decades. I hope you guys do something cool with the truck. And I love the channel y'all are living my dream
Advise… drain the old gas from the tank (as much as you can get out)… add fresh gas. That will help a lot… you might have to rebuild the carb…but see how it runs with fresh gas. Congrats!
IT's running rich, that's for sure, carb needs tuning, but wicked find on that old square body, and I'm not even a Chevy guy. Would love to see a restoration on this one
@@deanlindholm8663 Those old Quadra jet carbs are ok but so few around anymore. Perhaps you can find a you tube video that shows how to rebuild one? I have no doubt you are capable.. just need some guidance. If you do decide to tackle it… replace the float (they are sealed foam and often start to absorb fuel when they get old, causing them to not float so well which will make run rich). The biggest problem is the old fuel has gummed up the carb. First thing is to get that old fuel out and new fuel in. When you do that add a bottle of “dry gas” also called fuel line anti freeze… it will remove any water in the tank from condensation. It also might be wise to remove the tank and clean it out… you may find it is really horrible inside… and might even be worth getting a new tank? Looks like a good old truck… well worth fixing. As for the valve tapping.. you can dump some Seafoam additive in the oil.. this will clean up the inside of the engine… and might get the lifters working better? Then change the oil and filter (use 5-30 oil) … Good luck… (old mechanic, signing off… 😁
@@JoshuaTrengethat's not a qjet carb. Qjets are great carbs and work very well off-road for those that have a little carb savvy. Even knowledge Ford guys use them in their off road rigs.
Agree with completely draining the tanks and starting fresh.
@@JoshuaTrenge Great reminders, @JoshuaTrenge. Thanks. In 1969, I missed the opportunity to purchase a NEW 1970 4x4, 3/4 ton, automatic transmission, posi-trac pick up truck. Sure regret not having that rig to this day.
That "old' gas might be better than today's gas...Lol
I had a 1973 Chevy with the 350 LT1. I put over 200,000 miles (322,000 km) on it. Always started. Went through 3 starters, a water pump and a few rocker arms. Awesome truck. Best part was you could sit under the hood on the wheel well and fix anything with a screwdriver and a set of craftsman sockets.
My first vehicle was a 1975 Chevy truck with the 350. One of the owners before me removed all the emissions stuff and put a street cam in it, but the rest of it was stock. I don't know how many times the odometer turned over but I couldn't afford to drive it much. I clocked it at 4 mpg. It was pretty strong, though.
Great job, Riley! Don't forget the anti-freeze? Better check the parking brake too because if it has been sitting that long, it is probably going to start blowing brake lines. You live on a mountainside and you don't want a line to blow when you are unprepared.
Front seat out of a Caddy. They bolt right up! Was a thing back in the early 80s
LOL , they bolt right up except they were never bolted.
That was fun to watch, it must have been great in person. Can't believe it was running on 20 year old gas.
That was real gas back then, 89 to 95 octane not the alcohol crap now
and a dollar a gallon too.
@@johnaddis1022Full of cancer causing lead, YAY!
@tbirdracefan way under a dollar a gallon! In 73 I bought gas for 15 cent a gallon during the gas wars!!
@@donaldhofman5257 a receipt he found in the truck was 1.15 a gallon
Your enthusiasm is contagious! This was so much fun to watch. That truck appears to be good for a full restoration. Good luck on whatever you decide to do with it!
With a reasonably small amount of work you could have a basically free "on property" work truck that can get trashed without it bothering you. Just new battery , replacement carb (holly), maybe a new alternator, and a good cab interior cleaning and maybe a clean cheap junkyard replacement seat(s), then just get windows and door seals sorted to keep clean interior clean, and some decent maybe cheap used tires. Perfect for hauling chainsaws and firewood.
Why waste it like that?
@@the_retag can't prove ownership presumably unless the property came with a bill of sale for it
This is what I am talking about!!!!! Idaho off grid old timey skills and heritage energy! Casey’s knowledge is excellent and we like seeing him work on this Americana
That thing you said may be the smog pump is actually a tube that pipes heat into the air cleaner assembly when the vehicle is cold to help it with cold weather warm ups and characteristics, once warm a blade in the air cleaner blocks it off
Correct. It's called thermac air. Tube from exhaust to bottom of air cleaner flapper valve to shut off incoming cold air.
The "heat stove" was tin next to the exhaust, piped to the breather, and necessary at times to prevent cold damp air from icing up the venturi and killing the engine, 5 minutes later engine heat would melt that ice and you could run again.
Well, it looks like you guys are the proud owners of a square body, Chevy, congratulation😊
Oh my goodness y’all… this is the perfect groundwork platform to build and power the truck with “THE GASIFIER”! Driving around the mountain and going to town with wood gas🎉👍
Please make more videos on that old truck. Would love to see even a light restore to at least road worthy. Also did I miss an update on the new Kohler whole house generator that had a bad motor? Love all your videos, please keep it up!
That square body is mint!! Don't wreck it.. it's 4 x4 too . Mint. You can prob get a couple g for it..
You should get Vicegrip garage to come fix it an drive it home !!!
I love Vice Grip Garage!
Great decision to save this truck!
Best thing with older cars is that there is less that can break and they were made to last!
Excellent job and video, as always! 👍
Now other abandoned car left to check!
The back ground music is great. And the Oscar for small film editing goes to Courtney
All I can say is WOW!! Can’t wait to see what you do to the truck next!
This is now my favorite video, your guys’ excitement was the best. So cool to get a truck like that running! Can’t wait to see more 😎
If it wasn't so far, I'd offer to adopt that square. You wouldn't recognize it after a little tlc.
Only halfway through. Motor sounds like a stuck lifter or broken valvespring. Sometimes #7 camlobe goes flat. Yeah, I know every nut and bolt on those things intimately.
I was thinking the same thing.
How about that steering column? LOL. Like going down memory lane.
Yup looks and sounds like what you described, Should change oil and add coolant before driving. Us old guys know that changing all fluids is a necessary duty. You have no idea how old the the stuff is.
@@Kneemako About 40 years.
@Kneemako to be fair, I'd drive it down the hill to the shop with no or low coolant in the radiator. In this case, it's no more than a quarter mile at most. If I wanted to keep it, I would do a complete teardown anyway.
Valvetrain components, distributor caps, water pumps, starters, and ring gears are usually the first thing to go on those old low hp GM small blocks.
This truck was so lucky to be found by Riley and Courtney, people who can love it back to life!
Riley, I think you should absolutely TOTALLY restore that truck...100% exact stock...and on Oliver's 16th Birthday, you should present him with the "Oliver's Mountain Project Truck."....a perfect gift for a mountain bred young man.
Manually filling the throttle body on initial startup would have been better than trying to start it on the old fuel IMO....but you did it. Great job.
I remember this truck....when it used to run around town...Of course it'll run, it's a Chevy, a brand new crate motor costs $1500. So depending on your priorities, it'll run.
the "Jesus Loves Us" next to the burnt-to-the-ground homestead is hilarious
Oliver’s truck! I can imagine Riley and Oliver working on this truck together in the future! You both always keep it interesting! God bless your beautiful family!❤️
Wow. Did it without putting gas into the truck….20 yr old gas ? 😂
We still can't believe it! 🤣
That was real gas back then, you may have to get non ethanol fuel to run it, That engine may have required leaded fuel also.@@AmbitionStrikes
@@johnaddis1022the second gas cap he opened said unleaded only.
@@johnaddis1022 By the 80s everything was Unleaded.
I nominate this episode as the most hilarious yet.
Even the commercial is funny.
Best part of the whole video…Riley knocks on the roof and says “This truck is sweet” 😂😂😂😂
You NEED to restore that bad boy - it does not want to die!!!
True, with a bit of TLC and a makeover he would last another 40 years at least, would make a good work around the ,farm truck for sure. 40 years old, made like a tank, no plastic on him, couldn't be a better resto project than that, there's gotta be parts still around even if they are second-hand or refurbished, just make sure that the old boy doesn't die.
Could be useful around property with a hydraulic flatbed with stake sides. A mini version of your huge truck.
Or square bodies are popular so sell it.
Oh man I love reading the comments first. Bunch of whiners!! If you don’t want to watch it. Don’t. No one forced you to watch it. Stop complaining because you’re unhappy with how someone else decided to do something. Do it your own way and then go pat yourself on the back and say “good boy!!”. Stop being a hater because your life is void of anything positive! Riley Casey. You the man!
Que Riley's in burt Reynolds with that laugh lol
If you end up keeping that truck let me know. We actually have the Chevy hubcaps for that truck if you're interested.
I'm guessing that hubcaps are the least of the things that truck needs😢😢
Know anyone interested in a 1982 GMC 3500? 2WD dually with a flatbed. 3:55 rear end with a 700R4 and a rebuilt 1990 350 with TBI. Runs but been sitting a while. The TCC seems to be stuck. I drove it to where it is but when shifted out of park it dies just like the torque converter clutch isn't releasing. I was working on it with my father before he died in 2018.
Sounding a little better. Bent pushrod.😂
Back in the day: "Go see Cal, Go see Cal... Go see Cal... " (Worthington.. 6'5"", owned 23 dealerships - 'Met him once...) In his ads: Dogs, Elephants, Tigers... "If we ca't make deal, I'll eat a bug!" Maybe doing a little research on the Chevy's past? (Me: 1964 El Camino... perviously- '52 Suburban...) These oldies are a LOT of work...! Thank you! Best Wishes, Always...
That truck is the epitome of "tweekers gotta tweek." That is some real hillbilly wiring. So cool that you got it running and down the hill.
Awesome! Don’t make em like they used to! Keep it original!😁
This was a fun video to watch!
We had so much fun making this video!
Cortney says "DRIVE IT AWAY!!!!!!!!!!
You starting your Jeep in neutral just helped me figure out why my truck wasn't starting! Thank you so much!
Wow, what a find! As a retired Chevy mechanic, seeing that abandoned truck was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. You truly have a gem on your hands.
I hope you'll give her the love and attention she deserves. One piece of advice I'd offer, given its long period of abandonment, is that it's likely every seal will need replacing. I'd recommend pulling the engine and giving it a thorough inspection and overhaul. Which is very easy to do on that.
Also, from what I saw in the video, it looks like you have an Edelbrock carburetor, which brings back memories for me. Back in the day, when everyone else was using Holley, I used to swear by Edelbrock for my personal cars. It's a solid choice, and I'm sure it'll serve you well once you bring that truck back to life.
Keep up the fantastic work, and I can't wait to see what you do with it!
Hope you remembered the radiator was empty?
15 minutes of hysterical screeming and laughter . Headache
I'm a firm believer that Riley can pretty much fix everything
One of your best vids guys!! Well done!!!
Looks like you just found your "hobby" vehicle!!!!! Good truck for the property!!!
I especially liked the parts where there are *two* Courtneys! One manning the primary camera and another across the street shooting some B-roll!
They don't make tgem like they use to! Love it! Color, rust, dents, and all! I'd daily drive it 😁
Totally get that truck restored!!!! It’ll go better in the snow than anything you have!!!
Never a doubt you'd get that truck moving, Riley. But I was shaking my head the entire time...cuz there's NO WAY I would touch any part of that truck with bare hands (guess that's the woman in me) 😆 Ya'll are so awesome 💕💕
Hopefully "reckless" Riley will be/remain "wreck-less". Another project. They're starting to add up. The tough part is , what do work on first ? I vote for repairing the dozer. I guess it's not something your looking forward to tackling, but you may as well get it done.
Be safe and have fun. All the best to you and your family.
I am amazed at the fact that the gas was still good after 19 years.
Pre-Ethanol baby!
Trust me, it is not good… a miracle it started on that varnish…
@@jdgvee9313 ethenol wouldn't keep petrol based gasoline from going off after that long.
Hey Jesus loves you
We need more of “Truck Ranch Riley” commercials 🤠 C’mon down and pick your next love from our wide selection of abandoned trucks. 😂
Love to see a resto or even just see it cleaned up and running well
I like that you guys say, "Will it run?" Then, in the first 10 seconds of the video, you show us the truck running... one of my biggest pet peeves.
Agree 100%. I guess it's to appeal to the TikTok kids with their 10 second attention span?
I agreed. They could probably do a little better at editing.
I also find it funny that he can name every part of the engine, but yet he doesn't know the sides of bolts and sockets .
@@met8886 Knowing sizes of every nut and bolt on that engine is asking a lot, even for a seasoned mechanic🙄
Saved you 31 minutes of idiots.
Awesome, now a square body restoration series!!
With that sign on the bug deflector, the reason is obvious why it is Gold and it is still running.
Stop with this new trend on YT of spoiling the video in the intro it’s stupid and stop copying others who are doing it be original not a follower.
Video editing is the only thing original thats possible on youtube nowadays, so I agree with you. EVERYTHING in this content genre has been done before. The bedrock of this channel is taking all popular singular content/ideas, from other popular channels (VGG, Diesel Creek, Drew Camarata etc) and turning it into their own production. Off grid, heavy equipment, fab projects, building, buying abandoned properties blah blah blah. But the formula is working for AS and making them money. It's brilliant. But I don't sub
MORE…. I selfishly want more content. I absolutely love watching your content as you two(three "Oliver") make the best videos. They have everything to get my Monday mornings (This is when I watch) going. That old Chevy takes me back to my high school (Graduated in 1987) days when we all wanted square body Chevy’s. I have family in the Deer Park/Clayton WA area, so I live vicariously (In the pacific northwest) through your videos as I am back east in Ohio.
Like a ROCK!
Made before all the computer run systems. Looks like Ambition has a new off grid truck.😂
Those old square bodies are great trucks, easy to fix, parts are cheap, and they're just plain fun to drive. Please give that old gold a new lease at life, you won't regret.
I’m jealous. I miss my Scottsdale. My first truck was a ‘79. It also had a 305 but I put a 350 in it out of a firebird. Put dual glass packs on it and loved that truck so much. Left for the Air Force and sold it to a friend. Congrats on get it to run.
That's Flippin amazing! It runs with 19 year old fuel. Somebody must have put stabil fuel stabilizer in before it was parked. This was the easiest will it run videos I've ever watched. Now I can see Riley doing donuts in the driveway.
As a Ford owner I think you are having too much fun with your Chevy. Great video and I always enjoy both of your enthusiasm.
LOL that is a truck worth rebuilding!! I love the older square body style, and the fact that is sat so long and still runs tell you all you need to know about the engine.
That truck is SOOOOOOOO AWESOME! I love those old Chevy trucks.
Top tip, leave the nut a few turns on the steering column then you can yank at the wheel with all your strength without hitting yourself in the face!!!
That's Awesome! I didn't think it would start...
This is the one of the best video. It actually bring smile on my face when that truck started 😊
Puts trans in park, then puts t case in neutral, so now the trans in park is no longer engaged with the wheels. Lol. Man I love their shenanigans!
Unbelievable!! That's just amazing!! Jesus really does love that truck!
Is no one gunna mention the bible left on the front bumper?!😂
Cannot wait to see when you bring this fully back to life.
I love watching your videos. I know the joy of fixing that isn’t running and actually getting it to run again. Great job. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
Nothing but smiles
That's funny I had wild cat exts on my old jeep back in 1990
Hahahaha the Jeep I laughed so hard when u wigged the terminal and then were like hmm I know!! and jiggle the shifter. I can relate. These old vehicles just dont die, gotta love em.
That little "Dryer" hose you pulled off runs from the choke stove on the exhaust manifold to the air intake
This was one of my favorite videos! So much fun!
I was cheering for you both! Congratulations on the new addition to your family. 🙂
That would make a good Chevy commercial......40 year old truck left abandoned for 20 years starts, runs, and drives
You guys totally need to restore that truck. People love the old square bodies.
How fun! Cool video.
What came to mind - the old horror movie where Dr Frankenstein yells "It' a live"
That was a lot of fun thanks guys!
We used to have to put clothes pins on fuel lines to prevent vapor lock during hot weather. Glad you got it running. JLa
As fun as that was - and I can’t wait to see more footage of whatever you decide to do with it - I’m even more excited to see bulldozer vs tiny cabin 😂🎉🎉
That truck is a beauty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As I recall, that flexi metal tube pulled hot air off the manifold into the snout of the air cleaner. There was a vacuum actuated flap at that point. I'd guess you've got a vacuum leak of two from the missing lines.
I knew there was something familiar about Riley. I already know his twin. His twin has a utube channel, "diesel creek". He has the same crazy excitement everytime he gets some ole junk to run. He yelps, squeals, dances, just like Riley.
Enjoy.
Thanks Courtney and Riley for resurrecting this 2005 Chevvy with GMS hubcaps. I am impressed how quickly Riley removed the steering wheel, the signal blinker device and was able to replace the ignition lock/switch.
That truck was two decades old in 2005...
Here's a thought... Restore the truck to as new as you can, then run a raffle, Ticket proceeds to go to your charity of choice. You could even build it into a new camper.
Old Chevys never die!
The moss is a nice accent, I'd say keep it on...lol
